I had the opposite experience at my interview. I thought my interview went really well and felt like I connected with almost all of the interviewers. Don’t know for sure yet though how I.t actually went since I haven’t heard back post-interview yet.

I second this as well! Dr. Donald (Assistant Dean) mentioned that they changed a lot of scenarios. There were pretty some tough scenarios. As they also mentioned, they will ONLY accept 50 students initially and waitlist the rest. The waitlist will move on a one-one basis, meaning whenever one of the 50 students withdraw, another student would take his/her place.

Yea so whoever said 138 acceptances or whatever, that was misleading and now I’m not as comfortable as I was previously

Yea cause the first 50 people they send it out to commit, (not saying that’s the case but still a possibility) Their class could technically be filled right now or even very close.

I think you are right I doubt they will have to accept that much but when I asked the assistant dean how many people they will accept he told me that he doesn’t know but that he anticipates they will have to accept 120-150 based on what other schools he’s talked to have told him to fill they’re class of 50.

Our interview was tough too. Every interview is difficult and challenging, including at Nova. If you have yet to interview, make sure you practice going over an ethical question (there are plenty online) and develop a strategy that will help you answer a difficult ethical prompt. This really helped when presented with hard to answer interview scenarios, that had no right answers.

@futuremedschoool the class is far from full! There could be a lot of movement, but we won't know until May. It'll be a long process, but good things come to those who wait. Best wishes!
 
People... Top tier schools regularly get less than a 50% matriculation yield from acceptances throughout the whole cycle. There will very, very likely be well over 100 acceptances in the end, but they don’t give ALL the acceptances right away. Chill.

I think a the rule of thumb for many schools is 2-2.5 acceptances per matriculant. A new school without full scholarships should be at least that much no?

It might just be me, but I really feel like they're not putting too much stock on the interviews at this point. I'm not a good interviewer in general, and I felt pretty bad coming out of this one. I think it was the rest of my application that got me through the door.

Well they are a new school and probably want to have strong stats for their first class

I thought it was an easy interview and that I sailed through it, but got the waitlist. I felt much better about it than my other MD interviews. I think you may be right.
 
has anyone thats been accepted so far have a 513+? just wondering. i have a hypothesis im trying to test anecdotally lol

I'm hypothesizing it's more stats being good but research getting you through the door, since they're wanting to be a research program.

515, no research experience, with a waitlist - if that helps your data collection. :laugh:

Nah, maybe you've got something else they're looking for that I don't have. You never know.

It's also possible they're being super stingy up front and we'll both get accepted in the end. 🙂

I most definitely don't have a 515 but pretty damn solid research experience. Undergrad research, research fellowship, posters at national conferences, employed full-time research associate for the past 2 years at a nationally ranked medical school...I'm still waiting in silence. So I'd say you are probably right. My stats are average at best. If I get an II it'll be due to my research/work. I'm speculating I'm somewhere down the list of potential II. Fingers crossed at this point.
 
I was WL with an mcat in the top 5% (I was nontrad and only got some summer gap year research experience after I applied, however; they don't know about it). Loved the school, but you never know what they're looking for!

I'd send in an update letter ASAP about that research! I bet it would nudge you into an acceptance.

Scenarios were changed since you guys interviewed. 02/16 scenarios were different than other interview days. Im 100% sure about this.
 
i think theyre accepting high research exp applicants first with whatever mcat score because having research exp translates into strong PBL style learning. once they solidify a class i think theyll start collecting higher mcat stat applicants once they officially announce free tuition to keep high stat applicants. if it were me, id wl high caliber applicants first until free tuition is 100% guaranteed. all this has no evidence whatsoever and im bored

thing is that they said they were also looking for people who did not have an opportunity to do research in undergrad too and this is a great opportunity coming into NOVA
 
average mcat, 3.8, 2 years research, waitlisted- really not sure what to expect

Maybe, maybe not. I think a lot more goes into their decision. GPA, MCAT, Interview, Research, Clinical exp as well as attitude and "fit" and most importantly the candidate's passion and motivation to practice medicine to serve others. Research is important but it's not everything for a med school acceptance, PhD exists for that. Perhaps their definition of what makes a candidate "high caliber" is different than yours? A 513+ MCAT is 90th percentile, meaning only 10% of applicants get that score or higher. So it'd be impossible to fill their class with all 513+ considering there are like ~150 med schools. Also the median MCAT for all US MD matriculants is 508, meaning half had a 508 or more and half had a 508 or less. Also, would they consider a 513+ high caliber if the candidate has multiple scores? Who knows. I think MCAT score is just another factor to be considered, especially if they're being holistic, which is good, you want to be more than just a score, a number. Either way, it's tough to know what they're thinking or what goes on during those decision meetings, it's like trying to read tea leaves. You just have to be yourself and hope it's a match. I'm sure you'll get off that waitlist, I'm sending positive thoughts your way!!! It's still early.
 
If it is true that they are only accepting 50 people to begin and the rest to waitlist, then I have to assume acceptances will tighten up for upcoming decisions. I think at least 25 have been accepted as of now.
 
Any Opinions on whether to send update before or after decision post-II?
 
Is it still worth it to submit the secondary or is it too late in the game
