Well, at least they put us out of our misery (twice). Lot's of good thoughts going out to everyone still in the running!
"The Perelman School of Medicine interview program for 2018 admissions has closed. There will be no further interview invitations at this time."
I got rejected pre-II from Pitt and the contrast could not have been greater. Their pre-II rejection email was a class act in professionalism and sympathy. Can't harbor any bitterness towards them at all.Straight to the point but tone-deaf rejection. Imagine saying to a patient: "Go check your patient portal to see your diagnosis. You know, so you can plan the next few weeks of your life."
For anyone who's curious...Could you specify what was so bad about it? Curious...

Because of the competitive nature of the admissions process, the Committee has decided to announce 2018 final decisions for applicants who have not been invited for an interview. This information is available immediately at: Amp
We hope that this information will enable you to make informed decisions about your medical education in the weeks ahead.
Thank you for your interest in Perelman and good luck."
It's not terrible, but compared to some other schools it's very pointed and doesn't have the "it's not you, it's us" spiel that other places give. The application portal gives an even shorter message.
Oh the fragile ego of academic elitism - chill guys. For anyone who's curious...

oh how a university can't spend more than an hour on a politely worded rejection letter. smh millennials expecting at least some decency and professionalism after spending the past 3+ years on a career all and a $100 application fee for a tone-deaf rejection letter.Oh the fragile ego of academic elitism - chill guys.
Yes but only pre-II.has anyone sent a continued interest letter?
Anyone know when Penn Preview is this year?
Man I hope I get to go to that. Am I a religious man? No, no I am not, but you best believe I've been praying to Billy Penn, Benny Franklin, and Rocky Balboa every night since I interviewed.I called last week to ask - it's April 19-21

I sent it to Penn. Power of positive thinking and all that.So I'm doing my financial aid stuff (FAFSA/CSS) for other schools that I've gotten into. Anyone know if I can send it to Penn as well even though we haven't gotten decisions yet?
I don't think they were more specific than "by March 15th" during my interview day. But I think if you go back through the secondary threads from the past few years D-Day has been early-ish second week of March on average.Does anyone know when in March we will hear decisions? (Maybe a specific day or week?)
I have in my notes 872 interviews, 243 acceptances last year.does anyone know around how many students they interview here and about what percentage are accepted?
Someone previously posted a spreadsheet from USNWR that's no longer available that says they interview ~1000 students and accept around 30% if I remember correctly.does anyone know around how many students they interview here and about what percentage are accepted?
According to USNews, they interview around 800 students and end up taking around 230 which likely includes waitlist movement. Waitlist movement is tiny at 15-25. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.does anyone know around how many students they interview here and about what percentage are accepted?
Do you mind posting the numbers here? (No longer have my packet)The exact numbers from last year were in the packet they provided us with on interview day
27.8% post-II acceptance rate? Brb while I die inside.I have in my notes 872 interviews, 243 acceptances last year.
Do you mind posting the numbers here? (No longer have my packet)
thanks! okay so have the number of interview invites been going down?Official numbers in the packet say 801 interviews and 244 acceptances
I just took a look at the previous year's thread (2016-2017) - their packet, 2015-2016 data, said 797 interviewed, 240 accepted.thanks! okay so have the number of interview invites been going down?
Hello friends/future classmates/intrepid waitlistronauts,
I thought you might be interested in some insight into this admissions cycle.
Penn interviewed ~700 applicants and offered ~230 acceptances. As far as I'm aware that includes MD/PhD. For those wondering whether grades/essays/ECs/etc matter post-interview, the answer would seem to be yes. Anecdotally, I interviewed multiple applicants and the ones who got in were not the ones I rated the highest (though their ratings were not at all low). Some other students I talked to said the same thing happened with their interviewees. Before reading too much into this, it's good to remember that the faculty interview is important and these applicants may have rocked that one. Penn is all about fit - if your interview is fine and they deem you a great fit then you can get in even if someone else's interview had a slightly better score.
As you all have found out, Penn doesn't take many off the waitlist. If you really want to come here and can back it up with good reasoning, definitely write a letter of intent. For those who have been accepted, negotiate your scholarships. Penn has a lot of scholarship money to offer, but they play hardball - you have to ask for it. If you can show an offer from another highly-regarded school, definitely do so.
That's all I can really contribute, but I hope it's helpful. I'm not going to check this account or post again so please don't send PM's or ask for more info.
Interesting, thanks for looking into this! Maybe the post had a typo (~700 instead of ~800) or was misinformed. I'm more inclined to believe the official data Penn provides.I just took a look at the previous year's thread (2016-2017) - their packet, 2015-2016 data, said 797 interviewed, 240 accepted.
It looks like the number of interviews conducted via our packet, 2016-2017 data, was comparable to 2015-2016 data. I think it may have been higher in 2014-2015.
And though apparently even though our numbers say 801 interviewed, 244 acceptances, I found this conflicting post from the previous thread about 2016-2017 data.
Yeah...damn you Penn why you gotta be so lit?My impression is that given that most people would go to Penn, Penn knows this, and a letter wouldn't be very helpful.
I am seconding this sentiment - Penn is definitely my number one choice; should I LOI?Has anyone sent in a letter of interest/intent? If any current students can chime in, that would be really helpful. My impression is that given that most people would go to Penn, Penn knows this, and a letter wouldn't be very helpful.
I'm personally leaning towards a 'no' unless there is some actual evidence. Their yield is already 65% and these letters are basically to yield protect, so while helpful for schools with lower yield (for example WashU ~30%), they would do virtually nothing for our homie Penn.I am seconding this sentiment - Penn is definitely my number one choice; should I LOI?
Their decisions have always been released during their spring break, which this year is the first full week of March. Last year it was on the Friday, but previous years were skewed towards the middle of the week. I’m just gonna randomly speculate it’ll be on Thursday (March 8th) this year.
do you guys think decisions have been finalized? would an update have any impact?
I just hope they don’t wait until Friday this year to release decisions.
They can do whatever they please as long as they accept me.I just hope they release decisions next week at all, lol
Did not get interview here, but crossing fingers for everyone here. Made a bunch of friends on SDN who are waiting to hear back. I at least hope their rejection "letter" doesn't sound like it's written by a psychopath on vicodin.
I heard from my friend who's a student interviewer that everyone is waitlisted, but there are two tiers of waitlist (and also hardly any movement) so a second tier waitlist is essentially a rejection.Whenever decisions get sent out, if not accepted, is everyone put on the waitlist or will they also send straight up decisions?
