Hey guys! My interview is in 2 weeks and I'm trying to prepare myself for what I should expect in the MMI since I know there are different kinds. Does Wayne's MMI most consist of the interviewer describing a scenario and having you explain what you would do, or do they also include props/acting?

No acting stations (at least for mine there wasn't.)

My Wayne interview was a wonderful experience. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and the faculty and student interview are more conversational than anything. Be yourself and have a fantastic time!

Thanks!! I'm glad to hear there are no acting stations, those would be so awkward for me lol. I'm very excited to interview but also really anxious to get it over with. When did you interview?
 
I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but do you think it would be a bad idea to email Wayne St. to let them know I will be in the area for another interview in Michigan? It's about a 5 hour drive for me, so I'd rather just make the drive one time (if Wayne even likes me enough to interview me).

I would like to know too. Anyone know if its in bad taste to ask before an interview invite?

I can't speak of Wayne specifically, so hopefully someone else can provide some insight on them. My understanding is that this is received poorly from a good amount of schools because it is essentially viewed as asking to be reviewed/invited preferentially over others prior to your /turn/ they've given you to review your application in fairness along everyone else. So *probably not* but again could be wrong. If no one knows here might and not in FAQ might be worth seeing if someone asked last year too.

Edit: Only applicable if you have NOT been invited for an interview. I believe it's appropriate if they've invited you prior to the in the area email.

Although I see your point, I feel like an "in the area" email could be taken multiple ways. I think the email could be received in a positive way, as it shows you are interested in their school (if worded correctly). Also, this entire application process is ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE. I can only assume that many schools would be understanding to the fact that some of us are paying for our own applications/traveling expenses and would try to accommodate accordingly.

I'm not trying to really make a personal point about it- it's just sort of what I've generally noticed and that this is the reason they are often received poorly. I know it sucks because it's so expensive to travel for them. From my knowledge, they understanding of that when you've already been invited to an interview and will try to accommodate interview dates, but if they haven't reviewed your app yet or extended an interview they view it poorly. You're welcome to give it a shot still, as this is just something I've noticed and by no means 100% fact at every single school.

Is it worth submitting my secondary now? MCAT 512. GPA ~3.6. At this point hoping they will even get to my application by the last round of adcom review.

I mean that's not even half of the II's that are going to be extended, so why are you scared? There are going to be about 1000 II's this year, according to admissions. (Look up the recent Google Hangout with the medical school admissions staff).

How did you feel about how everything flowed with the lunch and tour? Are all the interviews together and then lunch and tour or are they broken up with lunch used as a break for example. Also for the interview time they gave you does it end exactly? For example, my interview is 8:30 am to 12 so can we leave at 12 or do people hang after lol just trying to coordinate catching my plane logistics

Shirt and tie and suit. First is powerpoint and tour about the schools by students, then after that MMIs then student interview then faculty interview then free to go!

It's opposite order for morning interviews, I imagine people can leave mid-tour if it's running late and they need to catch a flight

I interviewed here a couple of weeks ago. I am simply blown away from the quality of education and what I was expecting to see. From my experience, I can see how people would get a "gunner" vibe from this school. They have students here that succeed highly and aren't afraid to brag about their step scores and match list (providing documents for where every single student matched). The interview is very laidback so don't feel the need to stress about it. Furthermore, student interviewers/guides told us they are leaning towards 50% OOS this year instead of the historical 40% OOS.
 
Sorry if this has been addressed before - on MSAR it says last year they had 4770 applications, but on their admissions tracker they're at 6410 right now...that's a HUGE jump! what do you think explains that??

They dropped OOS tuition substantially - that certainly changed my mind about applying and I imagine a lot of others.

To my knowledge they aren't really receptive to them (like almost all other schools). It doesn't make much of a difference to them if you're in the area.

I would be a bit leery of that 1000 number as it was mentioned multiple times throughout the year, but never came close to happening. From my understanding it was closer to 800. What I will say is that they send IIs all the way into the Spring so don't lose hope! Plenty of our class came from Spring interviews/late waitlist acceptances.

Don't forget about the unbelievable pathology that you'll be able to learn from in the Detroit area. No better place to see the broadest spectrum to train clinically!

Why did you give up an ED acceptance?

Somebody on the last page said about 1000 according to an application tracker and MSAR has it at about 650 for last year.

I wasn't accepted -- I was rolled over into the regular decision pool and now I'm eligible to apply to other schools. Yeah, I guess regardless of them possibly looking for more applicants, they'll def get a handful of app fees.

When I just checked, it said 749 interviewed. I believed they gave out 1,000 interview invites but only 749 actually accepted.
 
Question for current Wayne med students: What do you love about your school? In what ways did it exceed your expectations and in what ways did it disappoint you?
