2017-2018 Wayne State University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You may have done this and if you have, I apologize. Have you been checking your portal and Wayne email? When I got an II, my portal was updated and they sent an email to my Wayne email. I never got anything in my regular email. Again. if you have done these things and still nothing, just ignore me.
I've been checking my portal and nothing has changed. All it says is "Med school in review." Out of curiosity, I went to go access my email and had to reset my password and all that bc I haven't touched it since july. Then it said "This account is disabled." Does that mean I'm rejected lol

LOl. I don't think so. If you were rejected, the portal would say, "Med School Reject" or something.

Does anyone know if there is anything admitted students need to be doing? I got my acceptance back in October and all I know is I have to send in the background check and transcripts. When do I send a deposit or commit to attending this fall?

I would call the admissions office. When I was accepted (summer '16), they sent a snail-mail acceptance, to which you were supposed to respond to with your commitment. Maybe this has changed in the past two years, but if you've been accepted since October but still haven't officially committed, you should call the admissions office.

Check your Wayne email. There's an acceptance email that allows you to accept a seat in the program.

On that note, has anyone sent in their transcripts and background check but still not have it reflected in the checklist? I sent mine in a few weeks back and it still says not received.

I was accepted back in November and my portal still says "Med School Invite to Interview." I called two weeks ago to see if they received my transcripts/background check and and to verify my acceptance and they said they had all my documents. They acknowledged that there was an issue with the portal system, so I'm sure they have your documents, but have yet to update it. I would definitely call just to double check

Is the school still planning on ending interviews in feb? I believe that is what it says on their site.

I called about a week or so ago to ask when the last interview date is (I wanted to decide if it would be worth it to send an update). The person who answered the phone said they don't know the last interview date yet because they might add March dates -- whatever that means lol

same, still under review, is it safe to call it a rejection at this point.
They said they were still reviewing til the middle of the month so I think after this Friday it’s safe to call it

How do you check your Wayne email? Mine says the account has been disabled?

According to representatives at the AAMC virtual fair, all interview invitation decisions will be given out by the end of next week!
Does that include for those waitlisted as well? Or is a waitlist also a decision

Did anyone apply later in the application cycle (i.e. complete by October or later) and receive an interview yet? I'm among the majority of you who have been complete since August, but I was wondering if this applied to anyone here

I applied to Wayne a little later (October) due to a paperwork issue on my end. I haven't heard anything back yet.

Okay so I was checking my portal incessantly in the beginning of the cycle and gave up on that around early December. So of course I check my portal today and I received an II back in mid-December. Never got an email. I tried contacting the admissions office but business hours are closed now. Can anyone tell me if there are still open dates for interviewing this cycle? I tried looking for dates in my portal and saw none, but I was wondering if that's because they gave me a select few dates initially that have since passed. I'd appreciate anyone's help!

Sounds like you got Wayne Stated..... these guys are notorious for that. How did you find out, did you see a change in your portal status or have to dig a little deeper?

Id assume there are still spots left because they still are going to send invites! I’d call them as soon as their office opens

Thanks for your reply! I saw a change in my portal status. I'm an idiot for not looking at it periodically but after seeing nothing on it for so long and receiving other email notifications from them about being complete, etc. in the beginning of the cycle, I figured they'd email me if I ever got an II.

Since some people have been wondering about the new curriculum, here's an email from Dean Sobel!

To the School of Medicine Family:

Vice Dean of Medical Education Richard Baker, M.D., provided you a Year 1 curriculum revision update in December. In it he outlined the many ways in which our curriculum will be enriched to ensure Wayne State University School of Medicine graduates the very best health care leaders and advocates in the nation — leaders who exemplify urban clinical excellence and who are dedicated to transforming the promise of equal access to health care into a reality for all.

Dr. Baker pledged to communicate monthly about the progress we have been making toward realizing this enhanced, experiential and exceptional curriculum. Therefore, I am delighted to present to you the proposed Year 1 curriculum schematic, which is the result of countless hours of work by many hard-working and committed Warrior Medicine faculty, staff, students and administrators.

This schematic, along with many pages outlining proposed courses, core competencies, assessment methods and more, was presented in accordance with university policy to Wayne State University Provost Keith Whitfield, Ph.D., for review and approval before the holiday break. We look forward to a response from the Office of the Provost in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, we must remain hard at work, for we know even the most extensive planning is nothing without implementation. Our curriculum revision team must now work toward bringing the plan to life. To do so, the members must thoroughly understand and address future resource needs and challenges, and they are strategically and boldly taking on this work to make this curriculum a reality. For instance, plans are in place to hire two experts to support the development and delivery of the preclerkship program. A clinical curriculum director will work with Year 1 and 2 unit directors to develop clinically integrated content, and a medical writer will assist the faculty in development of quality course material.

Our curriculum revision committee is taking on the lion’s share of work in this endeavor. As such, it is important for the committee, and for all of us, to remember that they do so with our sincere gratitude and steadfast support. I have the utmost confidence in our team and want to convey my extraordinary commitment to this process. This is not an easy task, but it is indeed crucial to the lives and health of our future doctors, patients and community.

Please assist this team in its work should members reach out to you throughout this process, and please continue to read these updates as they become available so that we can all communicate the positive benefits of this revised curriculum to prospective students and community members.

Jack D. Sobel, M.D.
Dean
Distinguished Professor

Unfortunately, I heard that all of the interview invites for this round have been sent out even though they are still interviewing in March

Why are you the way that you are? Every time this thread gets fun or excited you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.
