Rejected pre II via portal......
OMG, me too. I'm sorry but what kind of school rejects people on a portal?!
Also, good thing I read your post because I'd just done a portal check last night and wasn't planning to do it again for another week or so.
ps - Best wishes to everyone accepted or still in the running!

Also rejected via portal. Heard Wayne is done sending out II, and everyone who was not invited got rejected today.

Waitlisted today and I am soooo bummed. Wayne was my top choice, and I have been excited all month just hoping to hear from them. Really feeling like there's not much of a chance now. 😢

When did you interview?

From what I've read, there's plenty of waitlist movement so don't lose hope!

I feel the same I'm just feeling so down now. Wayne is also my top choice

Everyone keeps saying that, but I really feel like they waitlist so many people that it would be hard to actually get in.
Yeah you're right. I know a lot of people who are currently waitlisted with me and they all have good stats. So I don't what chance I have ro actually get accepted

Jumping on that rejected pre-II via portal train. OOS, LM 68. Small ties to Michigan. I never sent any updates/interest letters post secondary for what it's worth.

Gonna be full salty. This school completely wasted our time. They bombarded us with promotional emails so they could increase their applications and lower their acceptance rate in an attempt to raise their ranking. I withdrew my application to this school a month ago, but my friend who's already been accepted to 2 other schools just got her rejection email, which was lackluster at best. It's med school, at the end of the day, but when it comes to being respectful to people, their money, and time, this school trash.

I jump in on this whole "say something negative about wayne state after being way above the median stats and rejected pre II 8 months later" salt train. Seriously this school is decent but the nerve they have encouraging those to apply just to reject for yield protection months later is a shame. Disgraceful, and most of us OOS wouldn't have sniffed the high tuition coupled with the lower ranking at this school.

Rejected without interview invite. Complete since July. Sent one update in September about new research job.

In state, grew up near WSU. Met with admissions recruiter last summer who gave me the impression that I have a good shot. Empty words

And don't forget the $100 secondary fee, which was much more than most of the schools I applied to

The entitlement here is disgusting. Wouldn't it just be great if every school could just interview everyone with stats above their average? Better yet, why don't they just accept every single applicant? Don't they know they should consider themselves lucky just to even have the opportunity to receive an application from someone like you?!
If your attitude came across in any of your writing, I wouldn't interview you either.

Good straw man. Probably only out of many rejections we received we have bitched about. Tells you something about this schools process. When someone goes out of their way to convince u to spend 140 to apply here, just to reject you 8 months later with no intention of ever interviewing, its annoying.

Clearly this school is out of line. Most of us were rejected/accepted/waitlisted by other schools but didn't go out of our ways to complain. We chalked it up to not being right/good enough for that school and moved on. HOWEVER, Wayne went out of it's way to recruit people. I received over 6 emials from this school (from May to September- when I finally caved and sent them my primary) first introducing me to the school then outright asking me to apply. I would have never applied there (especially so late) since their OOS tuition is so hig and I have no ties to Michigan, but it's a medical school so you shoot your shot. ESPECIALLY if the school is basically going out of their way to court you. However, when you find out that they basically wasted everyone's time by sending mass emails to the entirity of the med school applicant pool, it makes them disingidenous and money hungry.

I’m not here to invalidate anyone’s feelings just to share my thoughts. It’s their job as a Med school to recruit applicants, so they have a larger pool to choose their class from. Wayne unlike other medical schools gave about 1000+ interview invites out..that’s a lot. Just like any other medical school they aren’t just selecting applicants because they’re qualified (in terms of stats), but ones that would fit their school and potentially accept the offer. I honestly get the frustration but most of this process was shooting your shot, because you’re never guaranteed an interview to begin with. I hope everyone ends up where they are supposed to be, and if it’s not Wayne then another school. Try to be hopeful, everyone’s anxious, you’re not the only one.

I interviewed on 1/19 and got waitlisted on 2/27. Wayne is my top choice, but I am holding an acceptance at a DO school which requires me to send in matriculation documents very soon. However, their classes do not start until August so I would not be formally enrolled until then. I am wondering if filling out the matriculation documents will make me ineligible to be on the waiting list at Wayne State. Can anyone weigh in on this topic?

Exactly. It's not the admissions office's job to make you feel good, they exist to increase the standing of their employer and recruit the best possible class- they can do that by increasing the pool of applicants to select from. To the applicant from Detroit- did you stand a good shot as an in state applicant with all the right stats? Yes. But so did thousands of other applicants. You aren't guaranteed a spot anywhere just because you have the numbers and think that you're awesome.

I am wondering about this is well. In another thread, someone said that on March 15th, the schools can see where the people on their waitlists have been accepted to. I have been accepted to one of my top schools, but wayne is also one of my tops. I am wondering if me being accepted into a school will lower my chances of possibly getting off of wayne's waitlist. Does anyone know about this situation?

Also, anybody

I’m not sure if this helps, but when I got my waitlisted email, it said something about if you accept another school, you automatically get off the waitlist and they won’t consider you anymore? So not sure if it matters that you got accepted, rather that if you accepted the school already ? If someone can back me up cause I deleted the email real fast but I feel like that’s what it said.

Mine says "If you matriculate into any U.S. allopathic or osteopathic school of medicine during the present application year, your application will be withdrawn from any further consideration."
I wont matriculate until August, when school starts, so idk.

Anyone accepted? Or have no change on their portal?

I feel like (and this is just my opinion, and in no way rooted in fact) Wayne is holding off on giving out multiple acceptances for now, and giving out multiple alternate-list decisions instead so that they can compare all of their interviewed applicants against each other, if that makes sense. And then once the interviewing cycle is over, they dole out more acceptances. Possibly why this school sees so much waitlist movement? Idk

I think they’re holding on to acceptances tighter too. I just called because I had no change in my portal and the guy said just keep checking. So Incase you’re in the same boat, I guess we’re waiting too ‍♀️

Does anyone know how the different portions of the interview (faculty interview, student interview, MMI) are weighted?

I didn’t even know they were calculated by weight lol.

I'm not sure that they are. I just assumed the faculty interview would be more important than the other portions, and wondered if there was any info on the specifics.

I thought I heard from the interview day that the faculty one was a lot more important than the others, but I can't remember if this was just our own speculation or if it came from someone at Wayne. A lot of schools that only do a few MMIs do them just to test them out to see if they're useful for the committee, but I dont know about Wayne state specifically.

I hope that’s not the case because I thought the faculty interview was my weakest portion! I guess it wasn’t any fault of my own, my dude seemed very disinterested in conducting the interview and then he ended it like 25 minutes early because he wanted to go home. He was such a character.

Did you by chance have the guy who’s a psychiatrist and redid medical school when he moved here to the states?

I understand why some of you may be frustrated, but wanted to remind everyone that the application cycle goes on all the way till July-time. There is still some time ahead. Just for introduction's sake again: I'm a second year student here, feel free to ask me any questions any of you may have about the application process or going to school here.

Thank you for the optimism! 🙂

Do you happen to know if Wayne is planning a second look day? I’ve been meaning to call the office and ask but it always slips my mind until the office is closed 😳

So there are three dates: April 11th, April 23rd, and 24th, invitations should go out sometime mid-March time, I believe. I'd personally encourage everyone to attend. The admissions office is limited in what it can show you during the interview day, and it's at the second-look day where you get a better "look" into the school again. I personally decided on Wayne after second-look and don't regret my choice!

Do you know when we are supposed to hear back from early February interviews? They told us before the end of the month but my portal still hasn’t changed from invite to interview.

I know of people that heard back last week so I would call the admissions office tomorrow. The admissions committee reviews/discusses applicants on a file-by-file basis so it could be that they simply haven't gotten to your own file yet. Again, I'd just call.

Okay thank you, I will call and find out. Did they get accepted? All I’ve been seeing are waitlists and that’s nerve racking.

That person got an “alternate decision”, but I do know that an "alternate" decision (applicants are not waitlisted yet) is an active decision so all files are reviewed and considered for acceptance.

I got an email saying that my application is on the alternate category but on the portal it says Med School Wait list/ Alternate (ML).

Could you please tell me the difference between both?
Thanks

There really is no difference. Your application gets pooled with all the other wait-listers and then Wayne has some ranking system I believe for selecting off the alternate list for acceptance. Students on the waitlist in November have no better shot than people waitlisted in February per se. But it really is just a waiting game right now because most MD applicants have until May 1 to tell schools if they are coming or not. You will see much more waitlist movement in late April-June. My sources are this was exactly my situation all last summer, unfortunately.
