llllllllllllloooooooooooollllllllllllllllll DO NOT buy Amtrak tickets at the station. You will be ripped a new ass with the price gouging. Buy them like now, you're already within the 2 week window so prices are getting more expensive

If you can fly into JFK/LGA at all, those are cheaper choices to get into New Haven.

I appreciate the advice. Haha I thought I was being crafty by flying into Boston, but I decided to switch my flight to NYC and take the train from there. Thanks for the help!

metro north is $18 one way, amtrak to boston is minimum $50 usually over $100. I was a yale undergrad and am from MA. NYC is the way to go but if changing your flight is a pain, megabus or greyhound run from boston south station to new haven and are max $25-30. You still get a better deal if you buy them in advance though.

How many people typically attend second look?

Just got my financial aid packet and HOLY MOLY! :wow:

It’s AMAZING! I’m so excited!!!!! Thank you Yale!
Swimming in money there I see you fam. Enjoy the new decreased unit loan. Yummy yummy $7k discount

A little late to the financial aid game, but does anyone who sent in the certificate of information form know where to find our Yale ID number?
You probably already got your answer. But don't ever worry about filling that ID on any fin aid forms anytime in the future. 🙂 Good luck.

Please do try to submit the fin aid app for Yale if money is an issue. Yale's algorithm is not advertised heavily with slogans as many other schools. But it is really generous with very smart and reasonable adjustment for the parental contribution. Most people tend to be surprised by how much more aid they are getting per year than comparable school with seemingly similar macro formula and unit loan.

I called the admissions office and they said more information about waitlists would be sent out in early May.
I'm sorry that sounds like a long time from now. There is currently a transition of power as you know our beloved Mr. Silverman just retired after completing the review for this year in Feb. If there is any news from the admission office that I know of, I'll update it here. Good luck!

There won't be any news to report. Waitlist tier information always comes out in mid-May to late May. I've written about this in excruciating detail in this thread; look up my posts @lakeofavalon @sammyers_sm

Yes! I read those some of them before, but I wasn't sure if waitlist information would be operating in the same way because of the change in administration. (Retrospectively, it was probably more wishful thinking than anything... hoping we'd find out sooner 😛 )

I thought I’d see a post here about it but I guess I’m the only one who almost had a heart attack seeing “YSM Waiting List update” in my inbox yesterday... I’m glad they’re keeping us in the loop about the process and timeline but man, I definitely felt an intense flutter of hope before I came crashing back down to my general state of anxiety and desperate anticipation.

I had heart palpitations when I read the subject of the email before opening it. You are not alone!

Spoke to Ms.W who now occupies the director of admission office yesterday. She said early May for update but I am not sure that means formal update to those on WL or just internal update.

Hey everyone,

We're so excited to share this year's parody video with you all! This video was truly a class effort and was made with lots of love for YSM!
Hope you enjoy! Cheers!!! 🙂

We currently expect 110 students

Hi Cigar, do you know if 110 students showed up? If not, is this at all indicative of how close they are to filling the ~106 seats.

Thanks for your help!

LOL no it's not indicative. Dude. Time-out for a chill pill. No one knows what the yield will be until 5/2 once all the acceptances have been accepted and turned down. Even then, only the admissions office would know anyway. Hang in tight, don't try to randomly guess your way into a black box and hope to come up with something productive; it won't happen.

Lol I have no idea how many showed up in total. There was a good turnout, but there's no way to know how many of them committed. There is usually good waitlist movement at Yale, so we'll see what happens.

Did everyone who has been accepted off WL received an email before/after their call? And was the call from the admissions office? Congratulations!

I received an email from Barbara asking when we could talk on the phone, and then she called me.

also did you guys send updates at all?

Yes, I sent an update letter and also a letter of intent, FWIW

Are these acceptances for MD or MD/PhD? It would be great if you could clarify! Thanks.

Pretty sure they're all MD. I think the MD/PhD office takes a few more days before they start offering admissions.

I got an email about needing to talk to me about my application, but I tried twice today and no response? Is that what people got before their acceptance? So cruel to send that and not answer the phone lol

You got in; they only talk acceptances today. But on May 1st the 3 top honchos in Admissions (Barb, Tricky Dick, Dean Ment) are so busy finalizing their backroom deals ( :cigar: ) on WL acceptances that they won't always sitting at the desk ready to pick up the phone. I have Barbara's cell phone, PM if you wanna 😉 (..........totally kidding, I do have her cell but pls don't PM me)

so is t possible that there will be more waitlist movement coming?

Congrats to those of you that have gotten acceptances off the WL. When you got the call, were you given information about when you would receive your financial aid package? Also, how long were you given to decide?
In Tricky Dick's honor, I'll echo what he said to me two years ago (!!! wowee so old..). They pressure FA with "nuclear weapons" to get to have an estimate within days. lol #TrickyDick4Prez I got mine in 2 days after phone acceptance. You then have 1 week to decide with an unspoken option to extend to 2 weeks if needed.

Ugh decisions. It’s hard without having attended revisit. I feel I didn’t get much of a sense of Yale on my interview day I spoke with very few students and barely any administration. Any advice on how to decide about waitlist acceptances?

Tbh it’ll be hard to get an unbiased response on the yale page (ie current students to push you in favor, other wait listed students who might want to push you against). People have posted in other forums / reddit about making decisions like this. Go with your gut, if there is a school that you liked a lot during your interview/SLW and have been accepted, give it some thought. A school like Yale deserves at least some thought, but it has a unique environment and you need to know if it resonates with you

TurkeyClub is correct that us current students will be biased, but we also had to make this decision and recognize that it is a serious personal, professional, and financial commitment, so I think many of us try to provide a clear representation of Yale to help you make a choice that's good for you. The Yale System and New Haven are not for everyone, although I would choose to come here again if I were offered the choice.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions. My decision was ultimately between Yale, WashU, Emory, and University of Miami, which I think are all fantastic schools that should highly be considered, so you can message me about them too if they're part of your decision (that goes for anyone else reading too).

Anyone on the MDPHD WL heard back? Or knows when to expect to hear back?

Can confirm this person gives thoughtful and complete answers to any questions or concerns you have about Yale!

I haven't commented here before but I'm currently waitlisted for yale's MD program. I wanted to ask some of the current students, or other applicants/accepted students if they have input on this, about what is best to do during this time. I see threads from previous years where people call the admissions office about their waitlist tier numbers or for waitlist updates. I, like everyone else, want as much information as I can get about where admissions is in this process but I don't want to bother anyone at admissions or do something that could hurt my chances. That being said, I obviously want them to know how invested I am and how much I love Yale and that I would absolutely come without question if accepted. I've communicated this to Barbara and updated my application with transcripts and information on a new research position I started back in January. Are there any other kinds of updates that people know of that have boded well for waitlist applicants that any of you would suggest at this point?

I guess I wanted to ask for tips on what you all think are the best (or worst) ways to handle being waitlisted in terms of frequency of communication, whether they prefer email or phone communication, being engaged on forums like this, etc. Thanks in advance for anyone who sees this and replies, and thank you for all the great info I've gotten from this thread so far. I hope we all get answers soon!
