To everyone worrying about whether or not they will receive a secondary: CMSRU pre-screens. Some may get a secondary now, in September, in October, or never. Sit tight and best of luck.

.....Wrote all of my essays to 1500 characters, then saw all the comments in this thread :dead:
Looks like I have to go cut out a third of each of my essays. Looks like they have not yet fixed the application to say 1,000 characters.

yup, I know someone who got a secondary in December last cycle

So I already submitted my secondary where the first three were 1000 char and the last was 1500 char. I just got the email that we can go back and change it if we would like to. For anyone who has not submitted their secondary can you clarify what the updated char limits are?

I also received this email and went back to my submitted secondary application. The updated character limit is 1500 characters, just like the rest of the prompts (this did seem fishy, as three prompts were 1500 characters and the last one was 1500 words).
I plan on emailing them my updated response with 1500 characters to the email provided in the email that addressed the error.
TT and here I was thinking I was done with secondaries.

Do you guys think resubmitting would delay review of our secondary app? I'm just worried since I made an effort to submit it soon after receiving it.

IMO it would be better to have the resubmitted 1500 character essay with coherent thoughts rather than a cut off, incoherent 1500 word essay. I think it also shows that you put in the effort and really care about the school. That's a valid worry though, as I wouldn't want to be pushed back in the queue because of the character limit error...
In the secondary application portal, that problematic 4th essay is exactly the same as when I submitted it, but cut off at 1499 characters (originally ~3000 characters).
Just sent an email to them that addresses your question, though. Let's hope they reply soon!

Thanks for your help!

Do you know if they've re-opened your application yet? I'm assuming that their offices will be closed till Monday, so I guess I'll call then, but I hope re-submitting won't delay my app either, since I also put an effort to get it submitted ASAP TT
This was my email (cutting out salutations and other email fluff):

"I was planning on reopening my secondary application to resubmit one of my responses that was cut off by the character limit error. However, before doing so, I would like to know if this would affect my application in terms of when it will be reviewed by the admissions committee. Would the date of completion of my application still remain as the day it was initially completed, or would it receive a new application completed date as the date on which I resubmitted the essay with the character limit error?"

Will update you ASAP if/when they reply lol

anyone have the email to contact the admissions office? Haven't received a secondary and my MCAT is well above the median and I'm in state

MCAT is only part of the equation. We are mission-based and look for students who can bring something special to one of the most impoverished places in the country.

Moreover, it is only the first week of August. First years start in two days and things are starting to get pretty hectic. I would start to worry in the middle of September. If this process teaches anything, it teaches: 1. Nothing is guaranteed (i.e. what we think we deserve and what we get is not always (rarely) in alignment). 2. Patience. Best of luck and as always, let me know if you have any questions.

OOS. Submitted primary nearly a month ago. Have not gotten secondary yet. Does it normally take this long?
I am OOS as well, but they emailed me secondary last week.

Hi guys, this is the response I received today:

"We are happy to assist you with any corrections or updates you wish to include in your application to CMSRU. We can reopen your secondary application for you to make any modifications, or we welcome you to send us your secondary responses as a document that we will upload to your records. Please let us know your preference, and we will make this process simple and quick for you."

So while this doesn't answer the question of editing the character count error essay question after reopening the secondary and possibly being moved back in the queue, I would suggest sending the edited response and having it uploaded to your records... I feel like that won't affect your "application complete" date at all, just to be safe.

Ah darn, I was hoping they would have answered whether re-submitting would move us back into the queue or not.
Yeah, I was pretty direct about the question but maybe they can't answer it? I feel like if they themselves refer to a designated "queue" or order in which applications are reviewed, they might receive questions from applicants about where they are in the queue or why they haven't been reviewed yet (hehe we premeds can be pretty neurotic).
Anyways, sorry I couldn't be of more help!

How long does it take to get a secondary when your primary is verified

Hey folks,
I was wondering how long until you received your secondary application. My Primary was approved early last week, so I just wanted to get a feel for when it might roll in.

Thanks!

Got mine today, submitted early july. Takes a while. I am OOS too.

I also just got my secondary today! Verified on 7/30. Does anyone know what the "pre-screen" entails? Is it an initial holistic review? Just curious!

Anyone know how heavy they screen? Got a secondary just a couple days after being verified

I think some interview invites should come out this week or next week.

How are you guys answering the 3rd question about the challenging situation? I feel like it is very similar to the 4th question about identifying adversity. Can it be a simple conflict situation?

I wrote about a conflict I had with someone while I was working, and for number 3 I wrote about how I identify when I’m going through stress and how I deal with it.

Has anybody seen their application get locked again? I'm wondering when we will see this happen

congrats!!! Are you application answers locked on the screen? Mine is still open. I am wondering if this is a problem

Mine are locked, I can't click on anything dealing with my secondary or pre-req courses. Make sure you paid the secondary fee and also got the confirmation email that you are complete. There is also a finalize and submit button on the portal. So make sure you do that if you didn't. If you didn't get the confirmation email after 48 hours of submitting, I would call admissions or email if they don't pick up.

Are you an early decision applicant?

I am. I think RD applicants should start receiving II by next week!

Thank you so much for taking the time too write back to me. I received my secondary in July and completed my application on 7/30. I received the confirmation email, my payment went through, and all of my marks on my portal are green. Eventually, they automatically reopened my application and several other peoples too I'm assuming because of the confusion with the character limits for the question prompts. The prompts were corrected on 8/3 so you probably never had to deal with this error I'm assuming

When I go into my portal now, I am still able to edit my answers despite everything marked as complete.
Is anybody else still experiencing this?

very confusing

Same for me. I have save the edited responses but am not able to re-submit? I'm not sure if this means that my application is open or not

When I spoke to admissions a few weeks ago they said we could edit our responses and our submission date stays the same. This makes sense why we can't resubmit. If were able to resubmit, our completion date would change. What I'm thinking is that they just review what is saved to your application when they decide to go over your app but it makes me nervous that my app able to be changed. I feel that as long as our portal says everything is complete and certified we should be good to go but again, it being open makes me nervous.
