Any current students have an idea about the equipment they have us order in the matriculation packet? 1k seems pretty steep for equipment did anyone buy used equipment for cheaper?

At the beginning of each year students heading off for rotations will sell pieces of their kit. You can buy them, then when you get your full kit you can return the parts you bought used. We don't use them much so they'll be "like new".

This is from their FAQs. My experience was the same. The interview was early so you didn’t have to stress the whole day waiting for it. I didn’t feel it was “high” stress but they had questions they wanted to ask me about my app.

“ACOM uses a rolling admissions cycle and schedules applicant interviews August through April of the application year. Applicants are invited to campus for an interview, faculty and staff presentations, and a tour of the facility. The schedule includes a single, open-file interview with basic science faculty, clinical faculty, administrators, and/or community physicians.”

I liked the campus and everyone was friendly and professional. The facilities are well kept and there is a quasi on campus housing next door. I say quasi because there is not enough room for all students and it’s not ran by the school.

Does anyone know if the dean usually approves the Admissions Committee's recommendations? I was informed by Mr. Willis today that I was on the list of applicants who were recommended by the committee and that he was going to meet with the dean tomorrow morning for the final decision. I would like to think that the dean does usually approve the admissions committee's recommendations because that would make the most sense.

Yeah I think ACOM has a really bright future considering its solid infrastructure and its willingness to listen to what their students want

I agree. The board scores are heavily based on student effort, as with other schools. But their rotations are good and they’re constantly expanding them.

Also, I’ll be willing to bet that their average board scores did go up coinciding with their level 1 first time passing rates going up from 90% to 95%. More dedicated board prep time and getting rid of wolfpacc is huge imo

The admissions committee emailed me the week of the interview asking if I would be utilizing the shuttle. It is offered from Comfort Inn and leaves at 7:30am the morning of the interview!

There is a FAQ about halfway down the first page on the site they assigned you when you applied. I took me a second to find it as well.

attrition rate after 1st senester is avg for medical schools ~8%. I think out of the 162 from day 1, 137 graduated and had a job that was (~85%) but 8% of that was repeated after first semester. so about 7% were lost between start of second semester and graduation. Only 2 people from my graduating class didn’t have jobs come July 1.

2015-16: 460 total enrollment, 175 first year, 0 graduates. (316+175) = 491 expected enrollment, 31 attrition. 31/491 = 6.3% attrition rate.
2016-17: 605 total enrollment, 168 first year, 126 graduates. (460+168) = 628 expected enrollment, 23 attrition. 23/628 = 3.7% attrition rate.
2017-18: 639 total enrollment, 173 first year, 144 graduates. (605+173-126) = 652 expected enrollment, 13 attrition. 13/652 = 2.0% attrition rate.

Pretty much all of the 8% repeated graduate with the next class. These are the students that struggled and failed MM/anatomy. They go on to do fine

We had 4 students out of 192 fail one of the two major fall semester classes. Two of them by less than 1%. So ~2% attrition so far. I know at least two of them plan on returning next year. The average attrition rate is skewed upwards a bit from the first year class. All in all, not too bad considering they bumped up the class size by 30 seats. There's a pretty strong "lets all get through this together" vibe from the class.

They recently solidified the policy to if you fail either Anatomy or Molecular (the two major classes fall semester) its an automatic repeat of the year. If you fail both; you get dismissed. Also if you fail a major systems course (neuroanatomy/endocrine, maybe cardio), it's an automatic repeat.

If you have a good roommate, yes. I did a 1 bedroom apartment and it wasn’t worth it

Where is the best place to live if you're a student here? Is the on-campus housing worth it?

I decided against the on-campus apartments, but the people that live there are happy being close to school. Summerfield is looking less available as the class sizes increase, so that seems to be the bigger problem. Two apartment complexes are supposed to start construction very close to ACOM, but I don't think those will be completed by the time the 2020-2021 school year starts. If you're okay with a roommate and a little drive every day, there are plenty of off-campus options.

I know if I get the A I will have to pay deposit in a certain timeframe.
What about the matriculation packet? I’m going out of the country after the interview.
The deposit will be easy to pay but is there a timeframe for completion of the packet? Obviously I know it has to be before the semester starts but I’m just wondering if someone who has been accepted and received a packet can answer my question.
