How are the top 10% determined? Interview performance only or interview and the whole app is considered?
 
They didnt give us the entire details at my interview day but it sounded like the committee is given a synopsis of your entire app by the person who presents you (the first interviewer) and then they can ask questions, then they score you (we werent told what the scoring system was even when we asked lol) and the combined total from the committee (or maybe average?) is your score. So, whole app + interview. Everyone that week is reviewed, scores rank-ordered, top 10% of those scores from that week of interviews get an earlier acceptance than the march group. At least, that's how I understand it.

Yeah - lol - I interviewed in late october, was told shortly after thanksgiving I was on hold until march, cried and checked my email a lot as if that would help, heard around spring break.
 
Does anyone know when OOS students may hear back regarding II?
 
The interviewers were extremely nice and conversational. Going to be a long couple weeks to hear the result..
 
October interviews should be going out right? Since they invite 3 weeks before
 
Started to get sad bc nothing from KU yet. Then I remembered we still have to wait until March anyways... :shrug:
 
How likely is it that KU will invite OOS students for a date before January?
 
Nothing here either, I tried calling yesterday at like 4:50 and the voicemail said they were out of office until Monday so I’m guessing either there was a technical glitch with the emails being sent out or they forgot
 
I called this morning and they confirmed that EDP emails will go out by the end of the work day today. The wait should be almost over!

I am curious though, does the interview campus play any role in the campus you attend if you are accepted? I have very strong ties to the KC campus and listed so on my app (grad school at the KC campus and my SO is earning her PH.D. in the IGPBS program). I'm wondering if I am interviewing in Wichita to reduce conflict of interest, which seems quite reasonable.

I took the MCAT on July 13th and submitted my secondary on August 2nd. After my MCAT was released on August 13th I sent an email to admissions giving them an update.

I know most OOS apps wont hear until January or December, but I really love this schools program and have strong family ties so I am really hoping they show me some love!

Yep. In state. A friend of mine who is OOS but went to college here for 4 years got an II today, as well. If that helps.

I got the notification for II on Oct 2nd. OOS, graduated from KU and very strong family ties to kansas

Can confirm; doesn't have any bearing on your campus. Some folks I interviewed with (in wichita) went to KC and plenty of my class interviewed in KC. No worries!

The interview campus doesn't play any role in the campus you attend if accepted. Best of luck to you!

I interviewed yesterday (10/22/19). It was very conversational and the people who interviewed me were extremely polite. They mostly just talked about me as an applicant and asked me the generic questions like "why do you want to be a doctor?" and "why KU?". We talked about my clinical experiences as well. I did not get any ethical questions; however, I talked to the other applicants after the interview and almost every one of them did receive an ethical question, so be prepared for those. Best of luck to you!

Just finished mine! It sounds like we had extremely similar interviewers. Others in my group weren’t so lucky. This is going to be a long wait!
 
Hey guys, it is probably a little late for this question and I posted earlier about OOS applicants (Congrats to those of you who did hear earlier), but I assumed I had ties but I am not totally certain anymore if it counts - my dad graduated from KU and grew up in the surrounding area. He also visits twice a year to give lectures to students in one of their graduate schools. My dad is a huge inspiration to me so I'd love to attend his alma mater - but does this even count as a state tie or nah?

You might want to call and talk to them about it. They usually discuss state ties if you graduated from a Kansas high school and then moved away, are from another state but will (or did) graduate from a Kansas college, or if you (or possibly a parent?) pays income taxes in Kansas. Those are the different scenarios I heard them mention at various open house presentations in previous years but it might be worth giving them a call. Good luck!
 
For both instate, out of state, people got asked: why specifically KU. Look up programs, research opportunities, and volunteer opportunities at kumc before the interview. I talked about 1 research publication by a kumc faculty and my interviewee really enjoyed it.

Literally all the questions I got asked were based on my Amcas, not a single ethical question. Do that classic "be yourself" and you'll be fine.
Ex: Know specifically what you did, what your responsibilities were, and how long of a commitment / why you quit.
