Does KU notify acceptances/rejections via email, phone, or snail mail?

I believe E-Mail is the new practice!
Always keep an eye on your spam folder, too! I found a secondary application in mine back in the day!

I was wondering if KU sends out interview invites in bulk for a group ?any idea!

I had a pretty great experience. It felt like a conversation with someone who knows a lot about your past experiences. I would prepare yourself for a couple of ethical and professionalism questions, but more than anything, I would get comfortable talking about yourself concisely. Guide the conversation to highlight lessons you've learned, your passions, and your strengths. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great!

Honestly, not really. The interviewers were extremely friendly to me. One of them even talked more than I did, so I would definitely agree with the other comments that say it’s much more conversational than typical interviews.

Any idea if KUSOM is extending interview dates? I did not get any interview invite or rejection till date. When I talked to Brian Steele last Friday, he said my file is still under review!! I submitted my application in late Oct as an IS applicant. Any body has similar situation ?

October is pretty late, so it’s probably pretty normal. Luckily, it doesn’t really matter how late you submit your app to KU.

I don’t think they are extending dates but since you are instate they might be more likely to notify you closer to the last grouping of dates (next week), because the travel burden isn’t as great, especially if an OOS applicant cancels last minute they’ll need to pick someone nearby to fill the vacancy. Good luck I hope you hear back!

Are the interviews open file? From what I hear one is semi-blind and the other is open-file but not sure how true this is.

That is correct. One is open, and the other is "closed," in that your grades, MCATs, and letters of recommendation are not known (but the rest of your application, including your personal statement and supplemental application are). The open interview is typically with one person, who is a member of the admissions committee. The closed interview is usually with two people who are not on the committee. Hope that helps!

Only rolling for like the top 10%. It’s a dumb way to do it
I'm confused, can you elaborate? The top 10% of people they interview find out after a month? Based on interview date or total interviewees so far?

Hi! Ok, so, how I understand it: after your interview week, the committee will meet and discuss all interviewees from the week (I think 3 days a week x about 15-20 students). After they present you, the committee uses a show of hands if you should be admitted. If you get a certain percent of votes, they will tell you within a month. If you’re on the line, they will tell you in March.

They said 70% of the eventual class finds out in March.

Edit: this is how I understood Brian when he explained it on interview day.

Any clue when in March they will release that info? I interview on Friday. Thanks.

Ok thanks! That is an interesting method. I wonder what the minimum show of hands is for waitlist vs acceptance haha

They refused to give us the number (its an arbitrary scoring card system according to the previous admissions dean, idk if it changed) but supposedly the cutoff is set based on the previous class' top 10% or so I believe. Each interview block, 10% of interviewees receive an acceptance offer, 33% are rejected post interview, and everyone else (57%?) are put on hold until march *. That said, everyone is rank-ordered by their score when they are reviewed by the committee, so your place is set in stone at that point. Once all reviews are complete, they go back to the people below the auto-acceptance cutoff line and start sending invitations until they fill the class (+ a bit of overfill they said to us anyway), then activate the waitlist based on the next set of people below that.

Its an interesting system; when I was interviewing I didn't come across any other school doing it that way. As for when the march group hears, usually around spring break time is correct. Hang in there friends!

*footnote: all of this is what I was told last year when I bugged Dean McCurdy who is now retired.

Are waitlists separated for IS and OOS?

Has anyone had their second interview after their Early Decision Interview?

Interviewed on Friday and had a great time. Just had a quick question as I didn't really understand the notification timeline. Did they say that they would let people know tomorrow of the outcome (A, R, hold) or was that just when they make decisions? Also do they let us know via email or physical mail? Thanks.

Most of the class finds out in March. And I think by email and snail mail.

Does that put them at a Disadvantage to interview later in the cycle or is there really no difference?
I don't see why there would be any disadvantage. It really doesn't make a difference where "in the cycle" people interview, due to the way that KU scores applicants (letting in a certain percent right away and letting everyone else know in March).

Are waitlists separated for IS and OOS?
As far as I understand, no, there are not separate waitlists for this part. Everyone is just in a rank (like 1-whatever) and it goes down the list from there.

So wait, they immediately let some people no of an A or an R. Will they tell you if you are not one of those people? Sorry I know I have a ton of questions on the same subject but just got confused. Like will they let us know if we are the ones that will find out later?

As far as I know, a certain (small) percent find out fairly soon after the interview week if they are accepted or rejected. Everyone else waits until March. "Immediately" in your comment does not mean anyone finds out the same day he or she interviewed. I'm not sure how long after exactly...a week or two I think?

They said they meet tuesdays so I would bet that the highest 10% and lowest 10% find out either the tues/weds of the week following their interview or the week after that depending on how up to date they are on interview votings

From my understanding, I thought they notified everyone 6-8 weeks after the interview letting them know they were either accepted, rejected, or on hold until March. I could be wrong though!

Well I mean... people who have already interviewed--how long after your interview did it take for you to hear back whether you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected?
