2019-2020 Midwestern University, with campuses in (Glendale, Arizona) AZCOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Second Look days are offered by most medical schools, usually after their application cycles are complete and acceptances have been extended to candidates. They are meant to give potential students an idea of what attending that particular school will be like.

Btw I completed the one year biomedical sciences program at Midwestern, Glendale if anyone has any questions about it.

Does anyone even get post interview rejected here? I swear i only see acceptances.... anyways im not complaining hahhaha congratulations all of you!! Good chance we will be classmates!
Some rejections earlier in the thread. I interviewed on 1/16 and can't seem to find anyone who has heard back yet. With each passing day I'm dreading a thin enveloped to come in the mail :grumpy:

Lack of empathy much? Congrats on your acceptance but your post is either completely ignorant or you’re just trolling considering the fact I told you that I was rejected post interview. Granted, I didn’t want to go here but know that there are others who do.

Are there usually mandatory classes on fridays?
There are occasionally mandatory things on Fridays but not super regularly. However, assuming they dont change the schedule the psych class is on Fridays and it's not recorded so....sensible to attend that.

How soon after the interview did you receive the rejection? Also how was it communicated? I'm coming up on two weeks post interview without word.....

If you don’t hear a call within two to three weeks that’s not a good sign. I did interview way earlier so it might be different now. I think they send you a letter but again, it’s been awhile so I wouldn’t bet my life on it.

Should I still be proud of getting accepted to a DO school ? Like is it still an accomplishment or is it something everyone gets accepted to?

This is a very bad look for you, the DO profession, and the school.
Thanks for the reply. It’ll be two weeks this Thursday so we’ll see. I hope you and Alco can work things out.

Me and Alco? I don’t know him nor do I care to. I’m just saying this because it’s one thing to feel that way but like it’s another when you make it public. Anything you post online can impact not only applicants from this cycle but also future applicants.

I was trying to imply a major posting bias lol. I've seen so many rejection posts on different school threads, and i even posted a rejection (s) myself on a different thread (s) but if you look here on the more recent interviews there are literally like zero rejections and ONLY acceptances. I've been rejected to schools and i post that i was rejected so the people following a thread can see ... i dont only post when i get an acceptance lol. I have way more rejections than acceptances beleive me!

I don't remember exactly but I would estimate 20-25 students. It was definitely one of the biggest groups I've interviewed with.

I had 36 people at one of the schools I interviewed at and it was a little intimidating. Granted we were split up into groups of 12 for the day but still.

Thanks for the info! The group might be smaller by April. Who knows.

Also former MABS, I’ve been told that most master’s students get waitlisted but are eventually pulled off later on. If you haven’t heard back yet, it might just be a waitlist coming through snail mail. You can also check the “applicant checklist” as that will have changed if it’s a waitlist. Hope good news is coming your way though!

This is a major reminder to me that no text or social media post or emojis will ever replace a face to face conversation.... things get misinterpreted so easily. My post was not made out of bad intention other than to point out that out of all the recent interviews there have been literally zero rejection posts on this thread. On other threads I see so many more rejections....and i have posted SEVERAL myself. I find that sometimes people are active on certain threads... but it is rare for people to have the humility to post that they have been rejected. Like i said , my intention was to highlight the posting bias. To be made out to be an unempathetic monster over a post like this because of how it was perceived, and not because of MY intention is unfair , especially because in real life, no one around me would describe me as lacking empathy. To those of you who took a different meaning from my post, I apologize.

In addition, I have several international students private message me (maybe 1-2 per week) asking me what I think about DO schools. They tell me that they have an acceptance (or multiple) at a DO school and they are unsure if they should attend. As an international student, the concept of a DO is quite NEW to me and i applied relatively late because i applied after MD schools as i had no idea what a DO was. Like i said, in many other countries, the concept of a DO carries a lot of confusion with it." Is it the same as a carribean school? What's the difference between DO and MD? ".... these are all questions that I have been private messaged.

I hope this clarifies that i did not have cruel intention in MY post, and once again, apologies to those i hurt.

I know in other posts and in other threads I have shown empathy and acknowledged the difficulty of participating in the application process. I have benefited from hearing peoples experiences, acceptances, rejections, things they would do different, waitlists, etc, and the posting bias makes it difficult for people to knkw their chances, etc. Once again, hope this clarifies things.

Agreed. Many of my peers were waitlisted but now attend as DO students. I hope at the very least I have that coming my way.

where do we find this?

Student portal>home>left middle column.

You’ll see canvas, mwu connect, others media stuff. You’ll see the gmail option with over 70+ email.

Does anyone recommend ubering from phoenix sky harbor airport or renting a car? It looks like a decently sized city from google maps...

Depends where you're staying but ride sharing will likely be cheaper overall than renting a car.

I used Uber. It cost $35-45 to go between my hotel and the airport. My hotel was rather close to campus so it only cost about $10 for an Uber to get to the campus from my hotel. Afterwards fellow interviewees were willing to share Ubers and split costs if you could find someone going to the same place (hotel or airport).

Interviewed 1/16, today marks two weeks...Anyone heard anything from that interview group?

I just checked the portal and saw an interview invitation pending approval. I've been checking this thread regularly so I know this has happened to others as well. There are 3 interview dates available, all in April. Do you know if those offered dates will be changed automatically if someone else withdraws their spot? Shall I wait for that to happen or should I reserve my spot now? Would I be able to reschedule in case they open another spot? I was hoping to attend the interview sometime in February or March.

Thanks! I rescheduled to February last night xD
Could you do this on the portal or did you have to email the admissions office? Once you chose your initial interview date, were you still able to see the available interview dates on the portal?

It doesn’t sound like azcom has interview spot waitlists but you may as well reserve a spot ASAP then inquire. Keep your head up because I had a lot of friends/classmates who were waitlisted after interviewing in April and are now attending. The class size is big

Graded! They also have tests quite frequently according to the students I met while I was there.
Thats correct, we are graded (included plus and minus) and have at least 1 exam/ week pretty much every week. This is our finals week for this quarter and we have 4 exams so its much more similar to undergrad than other med schools.
