Thats correct, we are graded (included plus and minus) and have at least 1 exam/ week pretty much every week. This is our finals week for this quarter and we have 4 exams so its much more similar to undergrad than other med schools.
Are the grades based on a strict percentage score received on exams or are the percentages adjusted based on how the class does?

Are we allowed to bring a backpack with us? My hotel checkout time is at noon :/

This is late but I was put on waitlist for interview invite on Jan 10! Has anyone been pulled off of this waitlist? Or know how likely it is to be given an II at this point? Thanks in advance!

Put on waitlist in October, received interview a few days ago.

Congratulations! Did you send any updates or letters?
A recommendation letter the night before receiving the interview. I highly recommend sending an update letter if you've been waitlisted.

Is there any affordable apartment (around $1k per month) that is friendly to large dogs? I have a 100lb golden retriever that I plan to bring with me. I've been looking but only found one place.

On campus housing allows pets. I see large size dogs all the time but I don’t know if there’s a weugjt limit necessarily

I looked at the list of apartments that the school provided on interview day and those have breed restrictions not weight limits. Goldens aren’t typically a restricted breed.

Anyone here gone through the MBS or MA program before applying? Wondering more about what the application process was like you? Currently in the program and honestly not doing as hot as I hoped so I was just wondering if I could ask anyone some questions! Thanks!

I was in MABS and met the articulation agreement requirements. I’ve already interviewed at AZCOM and was placed on the waitlist and I will be interviewing at CCOM at a later date. My friends who applied while we were in the master’s program had interviews at both schools even though some of them did not meet the articulation agreement requirements and they were accepted from the waitlist later on. Which program are you in?

MBS AZ campus.

For both schools your Midwestern GPA has to be equal to 3.0 or above. AZCOM MCAT has to be 500+ and for CCOM 504+ It’s subject to change depending on the average score of accepted master’s students from the previous year. And thanks! Good luck to you too, finish out the program strong!

thank you so much! ok for whatever reason in my head i thought the gpa was also one standard deviation off but its a bit more relief to be reminded it just has to be above a 3. my MCAT is great though so i'll be sure to kill it for the rest of the program in terms of grades! thank you and best of luck with everything else!

The overall grades are strict to the percentages. I've had a few friends try to argue a point or 0.3% rounding and they couldn't even get it rounded up. They have given us a point or two back on exams if a majority of people bomb a specific question but thats definitely not every time and I certainly wouldn't rely on it!

But are the percentages fair or is an A still >93%

Step 1 is now pass/fail! I having a feeling this will not be a good thing for DO students. I felt like step 1 is our chance to stand out and now with it being pass/fail what will program directors use when evaluating potential candidates for residency spots? I’m kind of freaking out what does everyone else think?

Time to get that 700 COMLEX lol. I guess class rank is going to matter more. We just gotta do what we gotta do now.

Hi everyone, new user to SDN! Although I have been looking at this site for the last year or so. I was accepted to AZCOM back in 11/2019. I am very familiar with the Phoenix rotation sites as I am from Phoenix, but I am considering doing my rotations in Chicago. I am curious about the quality of rotations in Chicago specifically from either current students or alumni. I couldn't find much online. I received an email yesterday from them about the potential hospitals, and it looked like the students in Chicago only rotated through one smaller (?) hospital. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thank you 🙂

Do you happen to know what the average grade usually is around per exam?
Depends on the class and the exam. I'd say a safe rule of thumb is in the low-mid 80s. Granted, we've had some really tough exams where it was in the low-mid 70s and some where Apollo must have been aligning the stars and everyone rocked it and the average was in the low 90s. That said, all the classes with grades have more than 1 exam so there's always some room to bomb an exam and come back from it.

For those that interviewed in late January, when did you hear back about getting in/waitlist? I interviewed Feb 17th and I just want a general idea of when to expect.

Pretty sure our point person said we would hear back in two weeks or so. Keep your head up 🙂

I have one quick question for current students at AZCOM. I think that some people have mentioned that the OMM labs at AZCOM is 4 hours maximum per week. However, on average, how much time per week did you spend for OMM in order to do well on the tests?

@BananaK88

Lab is required and it's a 2 hour block weekly. Most of your grade is from the written exam so I'd say that depends on how you study for any written test from information off ppt slides. For the practicals, most people review it the weekend or even the night before and I'd bet the average is maybe a couple of hours per practical just running through the techniques. That said, of course you can spend more time if you're super stoked and just want to practice all the time. I know there are people in the class who enjoy it and practice on their spouses or friends ll the time. Moral of the story, you can get by with a few hours or you can make it what you want like most things in life.

We always say the world is ending and it never is. Step 2 will be the new Step 1.

Is there still space in this years class I’ve been pre interview waitlisted for a long time. Hoping for an interview
Someone should correct me if I’m wrong but I believe they interview up until April-early May and the class doesn’t seem to be filled yet.

Question for current students, is medical spanish offered as an elective course?

Has anyone interviewing on the week of 2/17 received any news? 1 week is pretty soon, but it seems like AZCOM sends out decisions pretty quickly...

I am pretty sure they said 2 weeks during our info session.

Current students, I am wondering if there is any merit scholarship I can apply to as an incoming student?

Interviewed on 2/17. Accepted checklist hasn’t appeared for me, I guess I should start preparing for a rejection letter in the mail. Congrats to everyone accepted though!
