Wow, that's crazy. If I remember correctly from one of the sheets in the interview folder, USUHS is one of the few schools that takes Step 1 during MS3 (for current applicants, that would mean Jan. 2023). If they implement this change for everyone only after 2022, then I guess we barely dodge the bullet? LOL. Then again, maybe we dont actually dodge the bullet because this makes Step 2 CK more important maybe?

How does Step 2 CK timing work for the military match? According to that same paper in the folder that we got on interview day, it looks like Step 2 CK is taken between May - October of MS4. This pretty much means that military programs will 100% have our Step 2 CK scores, right? Which means it'll pretty much be the only "objective" test score on our ERAS to compare everyone (gulp).

Does anyone that has received their unconditional know when we can expect to get our commissioning paperwork and all of that stuff? Just trying to plan moving and getting ready for COT. Thank you!

Has anyone emailed CAPT Liotta directly with an update?

I'm currently on hold, and feel like I had some important updates rolling through recently:
  1. Publication in a journal
  2. Talk accepted at a major conference
  3. 1st in region, in masters indoor track event
  4. Started volunteering for USO
Just wondering if it's worth shooting him an email directly asking if i'm on the right track to get off the hold list, and if I do need to reapply, what are some ways to improve my application to make me more competitive for USUHS.

I did that pre-interview, and got an interview invite a month later. He's very receptive and kind! So I'd go for it. You got nothing to lose haha

Best of luck

Just received a letter saying I’ve been put on “hold” status until about March 21?

to check my medical clearance do I just sign into the dodmets website? I also realized that at my medical exams, I used an id with my old last name and I am wondering if this is going to have a major impact on my medical clearance. IF anyone could offer me some insight would greatly appreciate.

This is what I did, there should be a pdf that you can download that says if you are qualified (DoDMERB -> Applicant -> View My Status -> Download letter at bottom of the page). The letter is really simple and dry but clearly states your medical status and for what institution (USUHS). Make sure it is the DoDMERB website not DoDMETS. I'm not sure about your last name situation, maybe as long as USUHS can connect your medical clearance with your app then you should be good? Maybe try asking the commissioning coordinator? Hopefully this helps a little...

awesome thank you so much for the help!

just found out that the CTE for this school is April 30th. That's kinda rough...

Does this mean that students with a USUHS acceptance must commit by and only on April 30th? I ask because some schools on MSAR (I didn't apply there but USC Keck for example) have it listed "Commit to Enroll in AMCAS becomes available" (April 30th) and "Commit to Enroll Deadline" (sometime in June/July). This to me would imply that if you were accepted to USC Keck then you could possibly wait to CTE until like July. Since USUHS doesn't make this distinction, do admitted students have to CTE on April 30th or else be dropped? Having only one day seems a little tight for that big of a decision. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Also for those of you who came off of the waitlist in previous years after April 30th, how long do they give you to CTE?

i hope it means it becomes available 4/30 cus 1 day for decision time is kind of ridiculous

So, if you are put on hold, does that mean you are an alternate? The posts are very confusing. There is acceptance, wait list, application hold (after interview) and rejection? Are those the categories? If you are on hold, does that mean you will only get in if hell freezes over, or if all the planets are aligned just right, or if there is direct intervention from God above? I am not trying to be snarky, but wondering what the chances are of acceptance after an application is on hold. At least it is not a rejection, so there is still hope.

Not sure if this will answer any of your questions, and apologies if you have already looked at this, but here are the guidelines from USUHS for their decision-making process: https://www.usuhs.edu/sites/default/files/media/adm/interview/guidelines.pdf

Thank you. That was very informative. So it looks like there is not much of a chance; first waitlist, then alternates and maybe, hold. I agree with the earlier posts that it is more of a soft reject letter. However, no isn't no until the rejection letter arrives. Time will be dragging until March 21st. A miracle is in order, and yes, I do believe in miracles. ;-)

What makes you think March 15 versus any other day?
if you read the information USUHS publishes they mention medical clearance needs to be complete by march 15th or risk having your app withdrawn. Maybe i interpreted this wrong but it seems like if you don't have that done you're out

You still have a chance. I applied last year, after interviewing the admissions committee put me on hold. Not a yes, but more importantly not a NO. They just want to look at everyone that interviews after you before they make a decision on you. When you get the letter in March / early April it will tell you their decision - moved up to the waitlist, alternate, or rejection. If you get bumped up to the waitlist it will be the secondary waitlist and you will have to wait until the primary list is finished. Folks that are put on the waitlist after interview without being placed on hold first are on the primary list. Even then it's still possible to get in. Last year all three branches went into the secondary list, with some folks getting the call in early June. If you get the call that late you will go to officer training during the summer between year 3 and 4.

Thank you for the info. Congrats on making it in. I’m very happy for you. I will keep praying, although the answer may still be no.

Does USU allow or accept LOI or is that strictly taboo?
I wrote to my advisor (Ms. Baker) and asked how I could express continued interest a while back. She said, "You may send a letter of intent to this email address." So it sounds to me like it's ok. You could always reach out to your advisor and ask her/him. FYI I didn't send a LOI, and I haven't heard back yet, so I can't tell you if they put much stock into it or not.

I think it's helpful to tell the school that you're committed to attending if accepted. Tons of people back out, hence the wait list movement each year. If you have an update, and are so inclined, I'd send an LOI.

Is anyone else having trouble getting in contact with the commissioning coordinator? Is there a number we can call?

I have no idea. I know that getting orders can totally be a last minute (within a week) thing. Beyond that I would just be open minded and ready for everything to move fast. All that being said, I really have no idea.

Are we supposed to send USUHS anything if we've been medically cleared? I assume they get all the info directly from DoDMERB.

I would follow up with the commissioning coordinator JUST IN CASE. I say that because I had a medical disqualification and my status on DoDMERB was "under waiver review" but I still had to email the commissioning coordinator to request a medical waiver and re-submit all my documentation. I could be different for you since you were cleared automatically! But just to air on the side of caution! Or you could also reach out to your admissions counselor and ask for their advice!

If you’re cleared without a waiver, you’re cleared. I didn’t do anything except go to my appointments and submit some remedial paperwork. You shouldn’t have to communicate with anyone, but if you’ve been accepted and haven’t received your unconditional in over a month or so then I would maybe reach out to your advisor to make sure they have what they need. I never spoke with the commissioning coordinator because I didn’t need a waiver, thankfully.

Hi everyone! Congrats to all who have been accepted and plan to attend USUHS this upcoming year!

Does anyone know where one can find any information about Army BOLC for civilians with no prior service history? I'm currently awaiting my unconditional acceptance and know that I'll have some more waiting to do before receiving orders, but am just wondering if anyone has any details about 2020 BOLC or knows where we can find out more about it in the meantime. Thanks in advance!

I'm just as clueless, but it looks like these links might be able to give you some pearls of wisdom/experiences before you get the official information and orders (I just googled army bolc USUHS (or HPSP) and these popped up, obviously ignore the dental bits):

Do you know where USUHS published this information saying medical clearance needs to be wrapped up by March 15th? If so, can you post a link? Thanks in advance!

Very informative threads, thank you!

"After 15 March, an applicant on the waiting list will not be offered a place in the class unless physically qualified"
this is the info i was drawing on. This printout should be in the interview packet but i found that mine was missing it so i assumed they might have forgot to put it in others lol

It will be DCC not BOLC that you will have to attend from what I’ve been told.

The FY 2020 Direct Commissioning Course (DCC) class dates at Fort Sill,
Oklahoma are:
a. Class 003: Report: 7-Jun-20/ Start: 8-Jun-20/ End: 6-Jul-20
b. Class 004: Report: 12-Jul-20/ Start: 13-Jul-20/ End: 8-Aug-20

Does anyone know if we will have gym access during DCC for the Army and time to go or are our schedules going to be very strictly organized?

No clue, but were you recently accepted? If I remember correctly, you were on the primary wait list earlier, congrats! Just reassuring to see some sort of waitlist movement. I'm over here waiting on AF movement, placed on primary WL mid Jan.

Didn't get accepted yet but I have no doubt it's coming. I won't be accepting any other offers either so this will be my only route and I fully believe I'll get that call soon. So no, no waitlist movement on my end but if anyone knows of any, by all means let us know!

This is the same person as Jdprospectivemed btw haha
