Well, at least we aren't alone. I was accepted back in October but still feel anxious as the waiver is taking a lot longer than expected.
Same here. I was going to call tomorrow to ask for an update from the CC if possible

Well it’s been a little over seven weeks since my interview, and I’m still waiting. Would it be appropriate to give them a call next week? I was told they’d take between six and eight weeks.

It hasn’t even been the full amount of time they told you it could be. Believe me, I know it sucks but just try to be patient. If week 8 passes and you haven’t heard anything, I’d say reach out.

For anyone interviewing this week, gate security has been increased. I would assume that if they had issues with your Base Access form, you will be sent to pass and ID and it may take a while. I could be wrong but either way, please allow for enough time to get onto base. Also, you cannot be escorted onto base by a student if you weren't vetted previously by Pass and ID or don't have a government-issued ID.

Good luck and hope this helps! You are not out of the game yet. Know a chunk of our classmates interviewed in January.

Yes, please allow yourself a LOT of time.

Interviewing this week and can confirm. I got an email from the school yesterday saying all interviewees will have to go to the Pass and ID office, and they are moving the start time of interview day back an hour to account for expected delays this process will present.

I spent like 2 hours at pass and ID over the summer trying to get a temporary base access pass, only to be sent right back there to get a pass that worked longer than a day. I was there for like 4 hours, it was super rough. Hopefully, they have an increased amount of people working but I would give yourself like at least 45 minutes (or more) just to be sure you are in on time.

Oh I totally know who you are now. Edit: actually never mind I don’t. The person I thought you were is a dude lol.

Hi everyone! I got put on hold at the end of November with Navy as my top choice. Do you think the Navy was full at that point or that my application wasn't strong enough? I'm just trying to gage my changes of coming off the hold list.

I feel as though the Navy was full by then but perhaps your application wasn't 100% because you got put on hold and not immediately waitlisted. That's not to say you can't still be waitlisted so only time will tell.

Parking/transportation question: I sent a request to my admissions counselor about parking on campus but have not heard back and my interview is next Thursday. Does anyone know if you can park by the hospital and walk over? Or can I take an Uber/Lyft from my hotel to campus?

Thanks in advance for the help!

At least I’m not completely out of the game yet although I have started my application for next year. Thanks!

Hey USUHS sdn,

Long time listener, first time caller (so let me know if I posted wrong or something). I interviewed 11/21 and got a letter placing me on the wait list for the Navy today (1/14). USUHS was spot on with their 6-8 week prediction. Can anyone gauge my chances of acceptance would be from this timeframe (good/bad/ugly)? When does the wait list start to move? I realize answers are just speculation but appreciate any feedback.

Another side question. I never really understood wait list placement. Does interview date matter for this? For example, does a great applicant from a later interview date out rank a solid applicant from an earlier date? Is there anyway to know your score?

These are the questions that keep me up at night and as always, good luck to all!

Aaand then there’s me - silence after interviewing 11/14.

you're technically not supposed to park by the hospital unless you're a patient/visiting a patient. You can take an uber/lyft up until the security gate, and walk from there. If you go to the security gate on University Rd (aka USUHS gate on google maps), it's a really short walk from there to the campus.

ETA: Recent changes in base access policies may require that you go to a specific gate only to get access to base and campus. Follow whatever instructions admissions gives you.

Are they still making the interviewees go to pass and ID before they go to the gate? That’s kind of on the opposite end of the base.

If you’re a perfect candidate, you can trump into a seat at any time. If you are a good enough candidate to get accepted, you can get a seat until the class fills. Then if you’re an accepted candidate but not perfect, you get put on the waitlist to wait for a spot to open up. So yes, interview date does matter a little.

good point. i'm not sure - @AMP214 - disregard what I said and follow whatever instructions admissions gives you regarding base access.

Speaking of the interviews, I’m glad I went to sign up for the panel today. I completely forgot that I had already signed up for this week lol.

It's pretty early in the year, so if you received a high score on the waitlist (there's no way of knowing your score), I would speculate you have a good chance of acceptance. As with other medical schools, I would expect a lot of movement around April, especially April 30th.

Hi! Does anyone know when USUHS stops interviewing? I was placed on hold for an interview and have not heard a thing. Or is emailing my counselor a bad thing? Thanks!

I don’t know for sure, but last year the class was full in October. So I’m guessing it probably is. But as was discussed above that doesn’t mean you can’t get in. Even when the class is full you can get a full acceptance, and a priority waitlist is very likely an acceptance as well.

Is the “primary waitlist” the same thing as the “priority waitlist”? Just got an email telling me I’m on the “primary waitlist”.

Priority waitlisted today for AF (only know this because it's the only branch I listed on the form). Interviewed 5 Dec.

Can someone help me on this part of the secnav base-access form? It should be pretty straight forward, but the way its worded makes me question if I'm doing this correctly. For block 14, I filled out my SSN and Driver's license. Does this satisfy the requirement for two identity sources? And would this mean that I would just attach my drivers photo at the end of the form before submitting? Thanks.

Hey everyone!

I have my interview here coming up in a couple weeks, and I was wondering if someone who is currently/has been a student could just give me a little insight to what the school is like, how military life is there, etc! I was an HPSP applicant at one point, so I know what I'm getting into as far as committing to serve, but I see a lot of the feedback says they really focus on 'why USUHS' and 'why military medicine' in the interviews. So I wanted to see what you all think/thought about your experience there 🙂

yeah the secnav was confusing as all hell for me too. You have done it correctly just make sure you attach your drivers license with the secnav form and upload it as one document

How were you notified that you were on a priority waitlist? I was also interviewed on Dec 5th and haven't heard anything yet.

He’s not exaggerating either. The military commitment scares a lot of people away. Generally, huge chunks of the waitlist are offered seats every year.
Wont lie but that 7 year commitment is a lot to consider. I know this has been discussed before and not to beat a dead horse but it seems like you have to be pretty dedicated to being career military for this school to make sense.

There is a great breakdown of it somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it. It looked at someone doing orthopaedics. Even going to USUHS and having that 7 year commitment, the lack of debt, the money during school, and the higher pay during residency makes it so you come out slightly ahead of a civilian counterpart.

So you don’t really need to be dedicated to a career. But I will say that something like 75% of USUHS grads stay for a full 20. The school definitely prepares you well for it.

Can you switch branch at all once you begin attending? I listed Army as my number 1 and Navy as 2 but I have been second-guessing my listing. It wasn't specified but I'm also guessing that I'm on the Army's waitlist but who knows. If I wanted to change down the line, could I? Or is getting married the only way?

I think someone at the get-together the night before the interview told me that it’s virtually impossible to switch branches without a significant life event, like marriage.

Yeah it’s basically marriage and that’s it.

Commissioning officer finally got back to me today saying they received my documents for a medical waiver :\...

I haven't received any updated with regards to a waitlist though, the last letter I got was about a hold list and to wait until ~March 20ish

Sorry if this has been asked already, but decisions are sent in the mail or?

The letter I received said March 20th, but to have security clearance and DODMets completed otherwise they will not be able to make an offer.

Is there any way to find out if we’ve cleared security?

Yeah, at the interview. I’m fairly certain that if they didn’t call your name to go see security then you’re good. I ultimately called them a month or so later just to make sure, but I realize now that was probably unnecessary.

ive completed my remedial medical examination for a minor issue. On DODMETS it says that I have received my exam and that my case is closed. Is there anyway to check on the status of the results to see if I have been cleared yet?
