To anyone that has interviewed online this week, how was the format?
It wasn't that bad. My biggest complaint was that I got cut off at around 45 minutes saying that I only had a minute or two to ask questions, so I'm not sure if they're putting new time limits on the interview or what. Otherwise, despite it being a little awkward at first it didn't really feel that much different from a traditional interview.

Thanks for the heads up. Was it still pretty evenly split between conversation and ethical/academic questions?

Yeah I'd say. My only ethical question was basically asking if I've ever been a part of an ethical issue. Other than that, they asked a lot about family, and basically just some "expand on this" stuff from my application. But it was very easy going and felt conversational. We also talked about current events with COVID for a while too

Thanks so much for your help. Best of luck on the outcome!

Interesting, I had no ethics / current topics conversation. It was mostly just sharing about my life and elaborating on my resume / gpa etc! But I do agree very easy going and I liked how relaxed yet professional it felt. Made me a lot more comfortable!

I would say mine was about half ethics questions and half about my overall application and life in general. None of the ethics questions were too tough though and the interviewer kept it all conversational.

Anyone know when decisions will be made on interviews done this week?

Did you only do interviews? Or were you able to have an info session with Nelson? Usually decisions are made the Friday of the interview and decisions are sent the following Friday.

Do they mail all decisions (acceptance / on hold / rejection) or just acceptances? Some schools do different notifications for different results.

They will mail all decisions. From what I’ve gathered, they’re not doing phone calls for acceptances at this time so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get one

So here’s my take on the school when I interviewed (for those who didn’t get a tour with the online interview.)
  1. There are new buildings built in the last 10-ish years. They’re pretty nice and up to date. For example, the new library, Kaplan Skills Center (CHIPS), the new research buildings across from the school, fitness center, and so on. Then, there are the old buildings that seem to be built from the 80’s. The GEB, old research building, and other random buildings we will use in the program. In my opinion, it should be taken only at face value. I believe the education makes the old “look” very trivial. Below are some examples for y’all
  2. They have award-winning student assistance for integration into medical school, coping skills, general counseling, and so on. They administer tests for you to see the best way to learn in medical school, they have practice Step I/II exams, etc.
  3. In line with that, the school cares a lot about quality of education. Every medical student (M1-M4) raves about how much they care and how quickly they change things for students if there’s a negative aspect about the education. For example, if the block instructor goes off and teaches about their research rather than “high yield” topics, the school will give either: get a new instructor for that block; or give the instructor guidelines/teaching lessons to make your education better for you
  4. The clinical education is amazing. Since it’s Memphis, you have a huge variety of patient populations. From St. Jude to Region One (“The Med,”) you will see everything. There are a lot of volunteer opportunities to work with about every single patient population you can really think of
  5. They actually care about your mental wellbeing. It’s not unique to UTHSC, but the whole message I got throughout every part of the interview told me “we are trying to prevent med student burnout.” They have so many opportunities to venture outside of the classroom to make our cohort cohesive. They have reinvigorated SASSI to ensure you don’t drop out due to burn out.
  6. The students felt genuinely happy to be there. Despite a GPA system and somewhat-dilapidated buildings, they loved the choice to be here.
I promise I’m not a spokesperson for this school lol. Let me know if y’all have any more questions!

Do we think that even with all of the coronavirus stuff going on the April 15th decision deadline will still hold true?

Does anybody have a clue of the timeline for us ZOOM people to hear back? Haven’t asked Diane yet so wanted to see if any of you have heard. Usual turn around seems to be 2 weeks but don’t know if this will hold true anymore.

+1, I forgot to ask in my interview lol. They did say in one of the emails that they would email us when the next admissions committee meeting would be held, but that's all I've seen

Does any one have any info on when/if the AMCAS site changes after you are accepted? I interviewed on 03/9 and received an email from Diane that they had discussed me and would mail out my decision on 4/9. Just wondering if I should be refreshing the AMCAS page or just chill (like that's possible).

I’ve read somewhere (maybe here?) that someone saw they could choose the school they interviewed at on the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School Tool before the decision reached them. So you never know!

Turnaround still seems to be quick! Just got an email that I was discussed at the 4/3 meeting after interviewing earlier that week, and they'll be mailing out decisions 4/9!

Anyone from Memphis know how long the mail normally takes to get to them?

took 48 hours.

For those who have had recent ZOOM interviews, was your original in-person interview canceled, or was your initial II for the video interview?

I never had an in-person scheduled, my II was for the Zoom interview!
Okay thanks! I was just wondering if there's an order they're sending invites out in. I had an in-person scheduled before all the covid stuff. But now I'm still waiting on the official date and time for the zoom interview.

Still waiting on the email with further details about my interview. Received the first stating I was being scheduled but have not heard anything since. Staying hopeful for a decent shot. Anyone else still waiting for further details?

My timeline of events since people are asking about getting emails, etc: I had an in person scheduled for the 24th originally. I received the "you'll get rescheduled soon" email on the same day as all of you. I got my "you're rescheduled" email on the 27th, and ZOOM interview happened on 31st. I was informed on April 6th that my application was reviewed on the 3rd, and decision will be mailed on the 9th.

Yes, I'm still waiting! It seems like a few others are as well, at least those who have posted here. I got the same schedule email but then never got a follow-up one with a date and time. It seems like they're emailing people a week or so before their interview is scheduled.

Oh that’s strange, I’m surprised that you haven’t heard about your rescheduled date yet! I’m not really sure about the order since I would think the rescheduled one would happen first? My timeline: I received the update that it was scheduled (but not the date yet) on the 26th, my actual interview information on April 5th, and my interview is today!

My timeline was almost exactly the same, except I hadn't been scheduled for an in person interview prior to the 27th. Otherwise, all the dates are the same for me

Anyone know when we will hear about financial aid packages and costs? I had planned to meet with financial aid on the 2nd Look day, but . . .
Please let me know if you get that email sent to your UTHSC email. I got a new phone and I haven’t been able to recover it since they use that “Push” app. Need to contact IT most likely for that lol

It could be a matter of the availability of our interviewer. I'm not sure. Happy interview day!!

Has anyone been contacted about scholarship information yet? I know that they originally planned to send that stuff out in March, but I'm not sure if that's been impacted by COVID or not. I'm not really expecting one of the scholarships but it would definitely help with making decisions if I knew for sure either way

I looked on their website about financial aid and it seems there’s no one in charge of aid for the college of medicine. I don’t think they’re gonna screw us over and NOT send financial aid info, but it could explain why we haven’t heard anything

Anyone discussed 04/03/2020 get an acceptance call?
It was said above that they seemed to have stopped doing phone calls, all we can do is wait for the mail for any official decision since they go out today it shouldn't be too long. You can also check the choose your medical school tool for a hopeful glimpse at an acceptance.

The UTHSC Chancellor just announced the following in a communication regarding COVID:
  • "Our plan is to have a phased return to campus for the fall semester.
  • We expect face-to-face lectures to remain online in the fall.
  • We hope to restart small group sections, labs, and simulation in a social distance format."
Kind of bummed to hear that first semester of med school is going to be online... I know that this is probably for the greater good regarding public health, but kind of feel disheartened because I really dislike online formats. This might make things hard in terms of socializing, forming study groups, etc. with other students. I also wonder how things like anatomy cadaver dissections will be handled?

Was just reading this email and wondering about anatomy lab myself. No idea. Hopefully we hear more and better news as we get closer to the fall. :/

Have you guys been able to look into living arrangements yet?

Hi! Does anyone know who would be the appropriate person to email to see a more recent match list from this year/last year? The website only has lists from up to 2018.. thanks!
