You don't get to choose an interview date after submitting a secondary, you have to be invited by admissions and then you choose a date. You'll get an II if they like you as an applicant

I am aware of the process. What I’m saying is if I submit a secondary application in the next week for people who are familiar with the schools timeline what would be an anticipated interview date, would it be sometime in March or April?

Thanks

UIW is pretty quick with their turnaround, and given that it's the latter half of the cycle I'd say that March or April is realistic. With that being said, no one has posted about getting an interview here too recently, so I couldn't tell you what dates they have left. I doubt there's a ton a spots though and they seem to have a pretty dense waitlist.

If I have a particularly low MCAT score do you think it’s worth submitting a secondary application at this point considering somebody mentioned they already have a pretty dense waiting list?

I would save the money and just apply next year.

Edit: looked into your post history and saw what your score was - I would highly consider retaking the MCAT and not applying until you are above a 500 as this will give you the best chance of getting in. Good luck!!

I'm gonna back what klebsiella1 said above, it is well worth saving your money and attempting to get a better score. If you decide to apply, you're already at a huge disadvantage based on timing and your MCAT will most likely turn them away from giving you a II. Give the MCAT another shot this year and apply at the very beginning of the next cycle. Best of luck

Yeah I already took the exam twice I’m definitely not going to take it for a third time. If I don’t get in this year then I’m going to go for PA school.

Can you elaborate? i'm highly considering UIW.. curious what about it you find difficult.

3rd year here. No struggle. First two years were actually pretty -- pleasant, all in all.

No matter where you go/what you do there are going to be unpleasant parts of it.

So, are there things that are unpleasant here? Yes.
Are there things in clerkships that are unpleasant for me now? Yes.
Will there be things in residency that are unpleasant? Surely.

You gotta know if you're a self-directed learner, or not.
If you do not have a strong internal locus of control, this kind of curriculum will be harder for you.
No judgement around any of it... but if that's the case, this kind of curriculum (PBL-based) will likely be a struggle.
This is definitely a situation where "fit" matters.

Long time lurker here, so I got waitlisted after my 08/23 interview and it’s looking like UIWSOM is my only chance so far this cycle of becoming a DOctor. I’m getting anxious. Any idea if getting waitlisted so early on in the cycle is good or bad? Or when I might expect to hear back? After stalking old subs it seems like if I do hear back it will be springtime (OOS applicant)

Not sure if this has been mentioned on this thread yet, but remember in Texas we have the TMDSAS Match Day on February 1, so there's often a lot of movement after that happens.

Im not sure when the OMS-III's took their exam. I do have a friend that currently attends UIWSOM that said the administration said they performed well. This was told to me a couple of months ago however, and Im not sure they would have actually had the information to say that-- so this is all hear-say. What I have looked up is the examination dates with their respective score releases. If they're not particularly forthcoming about scores early on it may (or may not be) a bad sign. I have attached the release date schedule that I screenshotted off the national board website which can be found with this link: Score Release Dates — NBOME

If you've been given an offer I would think you have full rights to inquire about updates with their program's scores. I would shoot them an email or phone call. And if you do, update us if you can! I only just interviewed and have not been given an offer so I am waiting before I get hasty with emails/ phone calls.

3rd year here. Took COMLEX and STEP in the beginning of June. Most of our class took at end of May/beginning of June.

Rotations started July 1.

Personal opinion: Board scores from the first class are a tough measure of success, because so much changes in the first 2-3 years. At least here it has. Also, broadly, the type of people in the first class of a medical school are either people who went to that school because that's where they got in, or people who were really excited about being the first class somewhere, and turned down other offers. I think each of these types of people can influence score averages.

Second year here and I can confirm mid-February, that's what they told us as well. The reason they have waited is because some third years haven't taken it yet, since the school gave them a December deadline to complete them (not the case for our class, we have to complete by July 1, 2019). Those that take it in December will receive results early 2019, so the mid-February date is so the school gets all the scores.

This is only slightly inaccurate.
The school will not make an OMS2 take the test by July 1 (and I think you mean 2020) if they have not sufficiently passed a COMSAE of the school's choosing, as a predictor of the student's ability to pass the actual COMLEX. Think about it: the school would rather delay a person taking the test than have someone take it and fail.

Thus, a handful of ppl in the first class were given extra time/support (or directed where to go to get support) to prepare and then test later. Some needed to take time off rotations, which will be figured out later. The same will be afforded to future classes, albeit in a slightly different way than the first class, surely, as things adapt/change at a new school the first few years.

Hope that helps clarify.

Does anybody know how many of the 150 spots they've already filled?

I don’t think anyone knows this, but I have spoken to a few people, and it seems that all they are giving out now is interview waitlist spots. But after match day I’m sure some interview spots will open up since they interview into March.

There's 8 actual MMI stations and then 1 break/resting station.
Was each MMI 8min or 10min? I have my interview coming up and I'm nervous about longer MMIs. Thank you 🙂

From my understanding, the mmi is 10 minutes at each station but you get 2 minutes to read the prompt and decide how you're going to respond.

It was 8 minutes in the room, 2 minutes to read the prompt. There were 8 stations and 1 rest station. If you finish the dialogue early, you leave the room and sit outside so there is no awkward silence.

No II lately? Got the interview waitlist email back in December and starting to lose hope...

Honestly, just wait till after February 3rd, which is when TMDSAS match day is. Some movement should occur as that is when a lot of Texas MD schools send out most of their acceptances.

2 minutes to read and 8 minutes to talk. I was nervous too as I am an introvert and have social anxiety, but I really liked the interview format because it helped me just be myself, and gave a context for the conversation to flow. You will notice the time passes by quickly, but if you finish early they said it's totally fine to exit and wait outside. At one station in particular I noticed a lot of the interviewees exiting the room with time to spare. Anyways I would not worry too much becuase you definitely do not have to prepare as much as a traditional structured interview.
Thank you! I had the interview already and I agree it was a chill interview. Good luck with everything! 🙂

Now that match results are out and I assume people are withdrawing their acceptances here, when will we begin to see waitlist movement? Does anyone have any information from the past about how many people they accept off the waitlist every year or anything like that?

Wondering the same for II

Waitlisted this morning - interviewed 1/24. Definitely want to know about when movement is going to start on that waitlist.

I have an interview late Feb, are they still offering acceptances post-interview or is everyone waitlisted at this point?

Accepted 🙂
Interviewed 1/24.

Best wishes to everyone here with their goals and dreams! Always stay strong, patient, and positive 🙂 ! Thank you friends!

Interview later this month. Best of luck to all the applicants!

They told me today I am on II waitlist :/ and they will look at the waitlist in mid march :// what were your stats if you don't mind.
They’ve been pulling from the waitlist for a while now

@jkdoctor It’s supposed to be released soon according to the Dean. She didn’t give us an exact date

Anyone have word on a timeframe for waitlist movement?
Interview waitlist or waitlist waitlist??? I checked out the sdn from last year, and it seems like the waitlist waitlist started moving around the beginning of May.
