I would assume post-interview acceptance rate is around 40%. They interview around ~800 and definitely accept 200 but I would assume they accept around 300. MSAR said the waitlist is 100 people with 75 people eventually gaining an acceptance (which is different from what TallDoctor96 said so I don't know who is correct. I'm more inclined to trust them over MSAR tbh.)

Happy to cite my sources. Dean Mission did a waitlist AMA last year in april that I will link to in an edit. In that he told us that 703 were interviewed in 2018-2019 cycle. He also said that 250 plus were put on the watilist.

I get the 300 acceptance offer from my interview day. Dr. Whitehurst-Cook, said that about 200 offers are made to fill the class over 4 acceptance dates and then historically 100 offers made from waitlist.

Here are my sources:

1. All of them
2. Yes
3. Already happening
4. By portal, followed by email, at least until June
5. 250+
6. Selection Committee score
7. Not strictly down the priority scores, but as a rule by that number
8. Yes, but they may not have impact
9. It can be helpful information for admissions to know that info
10. Day of med school start
11. ED is a dicey proposition and is only advisable if you know you only want to got to that institution, since it freezes you out from applying until after October 1 at other institutions. If you know you only want to go to VCU, it might be a good option, especially if you received an interview in a previous cycle. At least you know your candidacy has some traction in that case.
1. 703 interviewees
2. I actually don't know how many applicants were offered of fthe waitlist off the top of my head. Probably around 100, but that is a guess.

The data from US news that states a 60% acceptance rate is from two cycles ago. Last cycle seems to be different in that they interviewed a 100+ more people. They may interview the same amount this year but we’ll see how it plays out. I imagine the change in traffic rules had the committee adjust there admissions process for last years cycle but from what I gathered at the interview they have a better understanding of how the new traffic rules will affect the process. It looks like the post-II acceptance rate did drop significantly over the past two years. We’ll see when US news releases their next update

If I'm interviewing the first week of December, what are the odds I will hear back by 12/16? Also, do rejections get sent out on those 4 dates, or is it only As?

The whole committee reviews on the Monday following your interview so I would say chances are pretty high if you’re interviewing the first week of December

You will be voted on for the 12/16 deadline. Historically even the people that interview like right before that day get snuck in.

My file review was finally marked complete (but I did not get a notification about it 🙁 unfortunately). I was initially complete 7/22

Have they started to send out rejections? I've been complete since Aug and haven't heard anything.

I have had the same status that a sub-committee will now do a review of my app for an extended period of time after my completion update. Should I be concerned about this considering this is one of my top OOS choices? Thanks! I have read previous posts but I didn't see that status for this long on other replies.

All it means, is that your file review is somewhere in the many stages and has not been prioritized to this point. Interviews have been filled pretty much until February at this point. But people will cancel their interviews and I’m sure more will come available. Just means ya gotta keep waiting, and that you haven’t been prioritized. They do reject plenty of people pre II

Anyone know if it’s possible can apply into fmStat post-A? Or did it need to be specified on the secondary

I would call and ask. They say that you can only apply via the secondary application, but I have a friend who submitted the secondary and then decided to apply to fmSTAT. She called the program director and was told that they would consider her for the program, but that was pre-II so I don't know.

File Review marked complete today, submitted 9/18. Hope to update soon with good news.

If you get the "Review complete message" do they email you about a rejection or do they just have it complete silence after that? Also, how long would you say one has to wait from review complete to getting an II?

I waited 3 weeks from my review complete to my interview offer. There are a number of people on here who were rejected pre-II. Now that you have your final file score you are in the queue for s possible interview but there is no way of knowing!

If you aren’t offered an interview your status will remain that way “review complete” until the end of the cycle when they will reject you.

I see, so if you haven't gotten a rejection email yet then that means they didn't outright reject you and are actually considering you?

Maybe .... hard to say. Not sure on that one. I mean if you’re not rejected yet you’re always in the running!

I was accepted a few weeks ago...by chance, has anyone received a link for the background check yet?

Is there a facebook page for accepted students?

Why hasn't my app been to sub-committee yet? Submitted on 9/9. Got WL last year and my MCAT is 9 points higher this year...lol

There could be several reasons- it's a marathon. I haven't heard from the majority of schools I applied to and it's been at least 2 months. Einstein just sent out a mass email because people grew frustrated with wait times.

Hey I mean in this in a very nice way, but as pre-meds we are not entitled to interviews even if we got waitlisted last year!

I will just say while 9/9 is not late, it definitely isn't early and they had thousands of applications submitted by then probably up to 5000. It just takes longer! And MCAT isn't everything.

I mean, if the reason we ultimately don't get in is because "your MCAT is just a little too low" then we improve it by 9 points...probably should get an interview. lol

Also, I wasn't necessarily implying I should receive an II (although statistically I should), just wondering why I haven't even been sent to sub-committee yet. Probably all those apps, but it's been a while...

Yeah but dude as a re-applicant you should know thats not how this process works!! Each year is different and they look for different things. Med school admissions just simply doesn't work like that. Especially at mid-tier schools that are very holistic.

And do u mean that your file review isn't complete? Does ur status say a member of the subcommittee will do your review?

I think you're missing my point. I am simply wondering why my app hasn't been in subcommittee yet. My portal still says "Your M.D. file is now complete. A member of the committee will do a review of your application." Nothing about subcommittee yet, and it's been 9 weeks.

I understand, honestly in the past VCU has commented that like everyone had been through sub-committee but the portal lagged behind. Maybe you are further along than you think and the portal is just being whacky. Its not over until its over and hopefully whoever looks your file over next will see you were waitlisted and score you well!

I would find it hard to believe that there is a 10 week backlog but who knows!

Oh okay that would be great if it was just a laggy portal. Did they post that this year, or was this in previous threads? And thanks I appreciate it! We all just trying to get through this *fun* process! lol

I was complete 8/23 and my portal says the same thing as yours...what I assume happened is that they do a preliminary review of the apps and I got placed in a “not a priority” pile and that’s why my portal isn’t changing at all. But that’s just an assumption, no idea how they actually prioritize what apps get reviewed first

Well I know that this year people reported it jumping back and forth between subcomittee will do review and a member of the committee will do a review so maybe it has changed at some point but changed back.

Also this was last year in the fall, Dean mission had to come on here and say even if your portal says review by subcommittee everyone had been reviewed.

Submitted end of July, and just got the waiting on subcommittee message a week or two ago.

Yeah I’m not really sure if there’s much of a distinction between them at this point lol. I suspect it’s the backlog

So if we have like an LOR that I want to send as an update, should I just have the letter writer email it to vcu? Or should I send it to Interfolio/AMCAS

Have you interviewed already? If so I will share what I was told last year. If you have interviewed and you have already received a score, a letter will not really change anything for you.

You’ve already been ranked. I would call and ask as obviously things change but I believe it holds true that if you have already interviewed and been scored s letter will not change anything.

?? Not sure what you're talking about. They said at our interview day that we were welcome to send updates for anything new that we had done for at least 3 months. This LOR is from a job I've had for that long.

For anyone else who may wonder, I emailed VCU and they said to just have the letter emailed directly to Dr. Whitehurst-Cook!

That’s great, I was just making it clear that while updates and letters are accepted they just go in the notes. If you already interviewed and are on hold for acceptance that means the committee has already voted on you and given you a numerical score. New updates or letters don’t affect that score, but can be seen in the notes if two candidates are very close or have the same score. That’s all I was trying to say!
