+1; students take advantage of subsidized housing bc its basically on campus but some begin to move out 3/4 yr

Hey! First year here. The majority of students live on campus. Rent is dirt-cheap like others have mentioned, and it's pretty great to live in the same building as your friends / just walk across the street to get to class. You most people live with 1 or 2 roommates (there are studios and one-bedrooms, but those are reserved for MSTP students, students with children, and couples who are engaged or married. However, you can put your name on a waitlist for a studio, and most people are able to get one by 2nd or 3rd year from what I hear). Everyone does get their own room - no one shares rooms or anything like that, which was a source of confusion last year.
I have some friends who live off campus as well though, and they don't have any issues with that. It's all personal preference.

I asked my interviewer about that because the housing says “no pets,” but she said they’ve moved away from the formal no pets rule because they’re better for the mental health of students. She said there’s even a dog trail (or play thing?) nearby or inside (can’t remember).

So formally, there are no pets allowed. However, if the animals are registered as emotional support animals, Housing legally has to allow them - that's what most people do. I believe it just requires a doctor's note (which you can get from student counseling here if needed), and a registration online, but there may be additional steps.

Some clarification on this.
As mentioned you need to get documentation and apply. The required materials are spelled out very clearly in the application documents. Your information is reviewed by the school general counsel's office to determine if it's sufficient.
Make no mistake there absolutely is still a formal no pets rule. You are not asking them to bring a pet onto campus, you are asking for a reasonable accommodation for a disability as outlined in FHA regulations. If you call it a pet in your application, legal will reject it.
It cannot be from the student mental health center. That was a specific stipulation when they were forming the SMHC and drafting the animal rules for housing (the processes were happening at the same time). SMHC will refer you to local providers (it's only intended to be temporary but they're flexible) who can then write a letter for you, but if you apply with one from an SMHC provider, they'll reject it if they catch it. It also cannot be from any of the online services that exist specifically for that purpose, and will probably subject you to further scrutiny if you apply again in the future.
If you do enroll at Einstein and do want to bring your animal with you as an ESA, you need to get all the paperwork done before moving in. If they become aware that you have the animal on campus before it's been approved, it will be denied.

Now that's all from the legal office's perspective. The people who run housing are a good deal more relaxed about it, unless they get a bunch of complaints about you and/or your animal. If it causes problems, you will be required to remove it.

As mentioned, the majority definitely do at least for the first couple years. People who move out usually are doing so to move in with a significant other (which isn't to say your partner isn't allowed to live with you - they absolutely are with certain qualifications but many couples prefer to live in other areas).
Rent will be going up this year by 10%, which is the first time it's been increased in 6 years. It's a large percentage, but if you live in a studio it's $70 a month and if you share an apartment (like most med students do when they move in), it's another $50 a month; still at least 30% below the rate at similar student accommodations.
The 500-700 a month you pay in rent includes gas, electric, heating/cooling, and 100gpbs FiOS. Work orders usually get addressed within 24hr. There's an attached underground garage for an extra monthly fee if you have a car (and it also provides a convenient path across the courtyard when you want to visit friends but it's disgusting outside).
You may share an apartment but never a room. Put your name on the studio wait-list as early as you can (although there are rumors they might make that an automatic thing).

In the interest of disclosure, management used to be a huge problem, but now that Montefiore runs the show, it's gotten a lot better, and the housing manager meets with a panel of students once or twice a month to deal with student concerns.

All in all, it's an unbelievably good deal.

Interviewing Friday 1/29 and am super excited since this is one of my top choices! I was just looking at past threads and am nervous all later January interviews usually are never direct acceptances. Anyone have any insight on this / think that might also be the case this year?
 
Sorry if this has been asked already, but I was wondering where we believe they are in regards to II invites? Also, does Einstein accept pre-II updates? Thanks in advance 🙂

This is alarming. I am interviewing 2/2 and hope this is not the case because I would love to go here as well. Insight anyone?

yes, anyone can go! it’s basically just another Q&A session and very chill so just select whatever clubs tbh
 
When do interviewees typically hear back? Do they have specific dates for decisions or is it x amount of weeks after your interview? Interviewed 1/25 if that’s important. Thanks in advance.

Decisions start coming out in early February. Not sure what that looks like for late Jan interviews but I imagine it’s still in that time frame
 
I have heard since my interview (last fall) that we should hear back starting on 2/1. Has anyone heard different?
 
Hey everyone!

It's your friendly neighborhood M1. As many of you know, February is when admissions starts sending out acceptances! This is a super exciting time, and you should all be incredibly proud of how much you've accomplished!

For those who don't hear back right away: I understand that this time is challenging. If you're like me, you may be wondering whether you made some mistake during your interview, if something didn't come across correctly on your application, or whether there was an issue your secondary. I just want to remind you all that no news is simply no news. As I'm sure you know, acceptances are sent out in waves, and not hearing back in the first wave says nothing about you as an applicant. For those who need to hear it, the lack of an acceptance is not a rejection.

Sending good vibes and positive energy your way, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I'm not sure if these were for me, but just a heads up that I'm not involved in admissions so I'm not sure what they're doing this year for the application cycle (though I wish they shared that info with us!). But I can share what happened last year!

People had interviews through March and later last year, though everything was kind of different because of the pandemic had just hit and a lot of interviews were rescheduled. I'm not too sure when they stopped sending out IIs last year, but you can try sifting through the sub and might have some luck! As for the number of apps, I don't know that one either, but I would assume it was relatively high with everything going virtual (as far as I know) and no travel costs and all that.

I interviewed early December and after checking last years thread it seems like some people posted about receiving their decisions on February 3rd (the first Monday of February) after interviewing in either early or mid December.
 
For those of you that already interviewed, is it just the one hour interview and then the zoom with students later in the day? I want to make sure I'm not missing any other information sessions or anything.
