Wow... I just emailed them too maybe I wasn't rejected pre 2* after all

Edit: They replied that there was no update to my file I played myself 🤣

My turn to get hurt, I like this school so may as well shoot my shot and send an email lol

edit: Not the email I wanted but also not an R lol,

Information has been sent to those that have a virtual interview with CUSM on October 23.

For those with later interview dates...
  • We are broken up into 2 groups
    • Group A starts at 10am
    • Group B starts at 11am
  • We will have a thirty (30) minute one-on-one interview
  • One (1) hour Q&A with student ambassadors
  • Mandatory NEO Assessment (1 hour long) to learn more about personality and fit; Results taken into consideration for placement into small groups...if you are accepted
  • Should wrap up by 2:30pm

After reading this thread I emailed admissions because I still hadn't received a secondary. They said they requested one from me 8/21 and that I may not have gotten it because I had the wrong email in AMCAS which is impossible because I got every other school's correspondence. Then I got CUSM's secondary literally 1 minute later. Soooo basically I recommend emailing them if you are concerned! Seems like their admissions is all messed up this year. Can't wait to turn in my secondary 2 months late now😡

Better than what I got: I emailed them asking if there was an error - I submitted months ago but didn’t receive any secondary (I’m well in their stats ranges and got secondaries to all the schools I applied to). They essentially responded “Nope. No error.”

FWIW I got an II last year as OOS with heavy ties, now that I'm IS no dice. So OOS definitely doesn't rule you out

@sillyusername I took a really long time to get my secondary as an OOS too (I think it was in mid-late October, and that was in a non-COVID year), and I didn't get the II until May. Every year is different with them since they are so new, so their policies could have changed, but *assuming* that this year is similar to last time I applied, you're not out of the running. That said they do prefer IS so I'm not trying to give you false hope and say that you will definitely get an II here or anything.

Fair enough. I've already had interviews elsewhere and been accepted though, so honestly there isn't really much point to filling out a post-acceptance secondary for a school that may interview me after my CTE dates. I was totally interested in them as I'd like to end up in CA, but now I'm kind of past wanting to bother with new secondaries. I imagine they will lose out on many great OOS applicants due to delaying sending secondaries.

Got an II on Monday! This is my first II in 2 cycles so it was really exciting for me!!
Complete 9/18, IE. As others have mentioned, all of the info disappears after choosing a date, so take photos or something beforehand! Another thing to note was that the II email was literally the exact same email as the secondary one. I wasted a few minutes worrying about whether or not I had forgotten to submit my secondary.

Does anyone have any tips or feedback from this interview? Hoping to put my best foot forward! 🙂

Earlier in the thread I posted some of the interview questions I was able to glean from a current student. Hope this helps!

I interviewed here last year here but this cycle switched my state residency, have not even gotten a secondary yet. Poop

Funn
Had my interview this past Friday. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very conversational. My interviewer truly wanted to know who I am, what my interests are, etc. I felt like I was talking about life with someone I met at Starbucks.
do you remember when we'd hear back from them?

I checked last year’s thread and it looks like it takes about 2 weeks or so. However, there were some people that interviewed early and didn’t hear back till the spring.

Just got an II from the school in February! I responded to the email within 5 minutes but that was the only date available lol
YEAH WHAT THE HECK lol. I just got an II one minute ago and I went to accept and it's for Feb 26th lol.

I submitted October 13th, so late like you, maybe that's why???
IS, 3.74, 515 (Low CARS 124)

It could be^ Keeo in mind that they are kind of a newish school so ppl with multiple As may not pick them so might have later IIs too

Yeah, I think you are right on. I was thinking that they offer later interviews because when people get As at a better school they typically withdraw their application from all of the schools they wouldn't choose over that A. So this way the school doesn't waste their time interviewing people that withdraw their app as soon as they get another A.

Got an II this morning too! Complete 9/11 and only interview date available was for 2/26!

Does anyone know how late interview dates affect admissions? Is there still a shot or do most people who end up interviewing in feb/March end up on the waitlist? I really hope there’s a decent chance lol

I interviewed in May and was accepted. I also know plenty of people in the M1 class that interviewed late and got accepted as well. Also February really isn't all that late in the grand scheme of things, plenty of people interview in February at schools all throughout the country

I just want to quickly echo what Kiwi has said. With this being a newer school the waitlist is going to move relatively quickly when compared to most other schools. I would absolutely recommend attending interviews no matter when they are, as even if you're waitlisted, if you're a decent candidate, I'd say you have a good chance to get a seat. Good luck, I'd say you have as good a chance as anyone.

Thank you so much, that’s definitely a relief! P.S. I love your reddit memes man! You're a legend there LOL

Thank you! I definitely will be attending the interview! I think I was just being a neurotic premed for a little bit and wondering whether or not I should still be worried about my chances overall. It's my first MD interview and I didn't want to get too excited over it if I didn't have a good chance given the timing but you guys cleared that up! I think you made a great point about the WL too, I didn't even think about that! 🙂

If you look at last year's SDN thread for this program you will find that many got moved off the waitlist 🙂

Does anyone know or can estimate the post-II acceptance rate for IS?
Based on last year's data from AAMC MSAR

Applied (In-State): 2,738
Interviewed (In-State): 368
Matriculated (In-State): 82

My arbitrary guess on the number of acceptances is ~100 for in-state residents. Granted, this year they will have an entering class of 120 students. So they may be accepting more in-state students to fill those slots and to be in-line with their mission.

Actually the class will be 130, so even better. This is the class size now moving forward. And just to add to this a bit, based on some of the info I had on previous years I'm sure the acceptance numbers for In-State was over 100 in this particular case. I'd be comfortable in estimating a post-interview acceptance rate for In-State people to be 30-40%+, it's just been too long since I've seen the raw info from the school to make a super confident statement though. So take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah definitely agree with both of you guys ^. Hoping for the best for us this cycle (especially with them accepting a larger class size).

Hmm, from what I've seen it's more like 2 to 3 times the number of matriculants. (Usually closer to 2x)
So if there are 130 matriculants, then they're likely going to accept 260+ as many will end up matriculating to another school. However, with things being virtual this year, I wouldn't be surprised if more people decide to attend all of their interviews rather than dropping them after acceptance at their top choice. If this is the case, then they may have to accept even more students. Disclaimer: I'm no expert and I may very well be wrong haha.

Any news about secondaries? Still haven't receiving any correspondence from this school.

Oh no, for sure, I totally agree with you. I was just specifically talking about in-state and when I said over 100 I meant truly anywhere over 100. It was more a way to establish an absolute minimum. As in, I know it's at least 100. I just didn't want to get any more specific because I don't want to give some estimates on here and then get misquoted with people citing it as fact or something later on.

Me too! I still haven't received a secondary and I submitted my primary to them a while ago. I was thinking of emailing admissions to ask if this was an error but I don't know if I will yet. Don't know if I'm ready to get my feelings hurt lol

Ahh, I didn't catch the "In state" part. Thanks for the clarification. In regards to the Post II acceptance, I think we can make an educated guess based off of MSAR data from last year.

Applied (In-State): 2,738
Interviewed (In-State): 368
Matriculated (In-State): 82

So if there are 82 in-state matriculants, they likely accepted 150-180 applicants. And so the in-state post-II acceptance rate would likely be somewhere between 40.7 to 48.9% for last year. This year is a totally different ball-game since they may be giving out more ii's given that things are virtual.
