2020-2021 Illinois

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just want a home campus Illinois 😭. There’s been no updates about campuses from anyone other than the specialty programs and foreign students correct?

For people who already interviewed- did you have your mics or camera on for the whole day or just the actual interviews?

I just got accepted as well! I'm really excited! Does anyone know if they have scholarship to offset the OOS tuition cost?
Current OOS M1 here. They def do offer scholarships to offset the OOS and IS tuition cost. It's not something you specifically apply to. The wording of the reason I got my award last year was: "You were selected for this award because you have demonstrated the model characteristics of a UI COM student in your application to us." Could be a variety of factors of who they choose to offer this scholarship to. I will say be proactive and apply to UIC SNAP. It's their scholarship portal. And let the admissions committee know of your interest in going to UICOM as an OOS student.

Congrats to everyone who got the A so far! Good luck to those still waiting.

Accept

I just got accepted as well and it is my first acceptance! Do you know if you can get IS tuition after living in Illinois for a year? I applied OOS
If you have a spouse who establishes a domicile in Illinois and is paying Illinois taxes for 12 months, then you both will be considered Illinois residents.

Or, you can defer a year, live in Illinois for 12 months, and become a resident that way.

Living in a state for educational purposes does not make one a resident of that state.

For those who were accepted, what stuff do you have to do post-acceptance but prior to matriculation? Just background check, health forms, and site selection??

For those who got delayed decision and then accepted later, what did you do to make the A happen? I was put on the delayed list since October (interviewed in September). I've sent multiple letters of interest. Thanks in advance for any input or advice!

I hope you get that A! I am interviewing this coming Wednesday and so excited. When did you get the info about the informal dinner? I haven’t heard anything.

Thank you! I got that email two days before the actual interview so you will probably get it on Monday 🙂

Does anyone know when they start assigning sites to accepted students?

They already have, but a lot of us still don’t have a site. I got accepted Oct. 16th and still don’t have one.

edit: It’s my understanding you don’t get an email when your portal updates with your site location. I know I’ll be posting on here as soon as I get a site so I’d just keep an eye out for any updates!

I think they might be waiting for people to finalize which medical school they are actually attending because Dr. Amiri said that almost everyone puts Chicago as their top choice so they probably don't want to give Chicago spots to people who aren't actually going to attend. They're also not done with interviews so they probably want to wait until that's closer to ending. That's just my guess tho I don't really know how they do it.

It ultimately makes sense, but I remember them mentioning that they would start campus placements in early December... I just wish they’d send us all an update if that wasn’t the plan anymore. Thank you for the more recent info though

Delayed Decision on Friday - Anyone know the odds of being taken off the waitlist?
I was delayed decision in November and got accepted in December. This was my top choice because I'm from the area so I sent a Letter of Intent prior to receiving the A. If you are serious about attending, I would send a LOI and I think you have a good shot of getting in!

I sent a Letter of Interest on Wednesday and was delayed decision on Friday. Is it worth sending another letter of interest, or would this be too much communication from my end?

During my interview last week, I think they mentioned they don't release campus placement until the Spring once the class is more finalized.

I’m not sure I understand this logic. I would imagine there are a lot of students who are waiting to here what campus they are assigned to before they commit to enroll. Delaying campus assignment to spring is going to delay how many people commit and then once it goes out there will be a mass withdraw of acceptance and mass commit to enroll. It also doesn’t give students a lot of time to appeal the decision if they want a different campus.

That could be true too it was just my guess lol. I'm not on the admissions committee and I haven't even been accepted yet I was just saying what I perceived from Dr. Amiri's talk. All I really know is that she indicated that they were going to wait a bit for the campus placements.

for those of you who have ranked the campuses, how did you differentiate between peoria and rockford? I have read through previous threads, but am hoping for more current perspectives.

also, do out of state students receive preferential placement for chicago? current students mentioned that this was the case in the past, but that they did not know whether the school is continuing to adhere to this. thank you!

I have only ever lived in big cities. would you advise peoria or rockford (second to chicago, of course)?
