Is anyone prewriting the secondary? And if so, are you just using these prompts from the previous cycle?
  1. Why do you wish to attend Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine?
  1. Please describe a personal situation of failure, a significant challenge or a major obstacle that you have overcome. Include a description of your coping skills and lessons you learned about yourself from that situation.

I think that is the best thing to do for now, but since Meharry is taking so long with their secondaries, anything could happen, so be prepared cause these may change. I doubt it though.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is donating $100 million to the nation's four historically Black medical schools: Howard University's College of Medicine in Washington, the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Meharry Medical College in Nashville, and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. The schools said they will use the donations to create scholarships of up to $100,000 for students currently enrolled and receiving financial aid. Maybe this is why they are so delayed this year! I hope those who get to attend this school will be able to receive this awesome financial gift! 😀

They are probably celebrating, they got no time to read our Apps LoL

Suddenly everybody is gonna be a perfect fit for their mission haha
I need to get to pre-writing so I can submit this ASAP if more ppl are going to decide to apply here haha

How long is the “why Meharry” supposed to be?

So Meharry just posted on LinkedIn and it appears they got the biggest cut of the pie with $34M...followed by Howard's $32.5M and Morehouse's $26M. I'm guessing Charles Drew got about $7M.

Anyway, I bring this up because now I'm wondering if Meharry was waiting for this gift to drop before sending out secondaries.

I would guess not, because the awarding of scholarships comes at a later phase than reading applications & interviewing. This welcome boon will be a topic of discussion at all the schools I'm sure though!

Meharry is always late with communication. The secondary being late doesn't have anything to do the gift. The school staff, faculty, students are still running covid testing sites in Nashville as well. Nah, it isn't excuse but just know you have to have true patience with this school if you really want to attend here. They truly do look holistically and make sure you match their mission and values.

Yeah for sure, I know how Meharry is...was just throwing out a thought lol

just tried to call to get an update on secondary release and none of their numbers are working 😕

It's also lunch time, so no one is going to be answering right now lol. Whole school goes to lunch at noon

ahh you're right, I'm in a different time zone. i'll try again later but I doubt it'll change. it rings once and then gives that weird signal as if the phones have been disconnected (not turned off). lol

Look thru one of the MHS forums -2019 one. There's another number you can try; sorry I can't remember it

Probably due to covid. Just make sure you definitely score higher. Although I know a good amount people with a score around that and below who are in the med school (but they also had a connection to the school)

holy crap I thought I was screened out LMAO its wild that no one has gotten a secondary yet....... 😱

I’m sure that this is irrelevant. But, for the past two years Meharry has been “developing” a PA program. They accepted applications and even admitted an incoming class. They eventually wound up releasing information saying that they would not have a PA program due to unforeseen issues with accreditation. Do we think that this may be happening with the medical school too?

I doubt it, their med school has been pumping out tons of physicians since the 1800s.

No, it's completely unrelated. They also did not admit an incoming class,(Howard did that 3 years ago tho lol) just interviewed but stopped everything due to accreditation paperwork.

Keep in mind that according to MSAR September 12th is the last MCAT date they are accepting. But it is possible that they have not updated MSAR to reflect that they will take all tests given this year like most med schools are.

Anyone know if they had a word limit on last year's secondary prompts?? Doesn't say in previous yr's thread whether there was a word limit or not.

I don't know if any of ya'll are applying to DO schools, but I am starting the process this week, and I just wanted to know if there are any forums like this for DO schools?
