2020-2021 Michigan State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have VERY similar stats as you and I have been ghosted (no II) :/ sorry if you have mentioned this before but do you mind sharing when you were complete ?
Yeah, so I completed oct 10th. But I'm also in state, first generation, low income, and am going to have my masters in biomedical sciences by the end of summer 2021.

Congrats for all of you accepted!!! So exciting. Did your portal update at all?
Still haven't heard anything and interviewed 11/11. Waiting for the waitlist email...

Nope, my portal didn't update, I just got a phone call.

I GOT IN!!!! I started crying during the call. MSU is actually my top choice. Now comes the hard part, deciding if I go to my first choice of medical school or attend one that's closer to where my husband works.
Congratulations! What time did they call?

Do you guys still think we could get calls tomorrow since they are behind? Or should we assume we won't get an answer until January?

I was wondering this since no one reported calls yesterday night. Maybe they’re a day behind ?

I talked to my friend at MSU-CHM and he said they don't make all calls on the same day. People he previously interviewed with got acceptance calls on different days.

From this thread it seems this year they start calling the night before snd the day of “decision day”. No one reported calls yesterday night so it wold be awesome if they called tomorrow too. It I feel like I’m being too hopeful.

+1, does anyone know how much movement there typically is on

same. does any know how much movement there is on this list?
I was waitlisted before and there was moment after April 30th. I’d say it was movement but idk what’s considered a lot or a little.

Does MSU waitlist all interviewees that weren’t accepted?

Oh...and MSU CHM

AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT ALL COSTS

This may be one of the most faulty medical schools currently allowed to teach. They've designed a new curriculum with the idea that you become a better humanitarian (aka shrink) but they've done so at the complete expense of their medical education. You're required to follow nurses, social workers, physical therapists for months of the year which the majority of the students have found to be a waste of time. We're given no guidance as to how to learn, what to read or how to improve but that doesn't concern them at all. However when we show up to clinical site without an adequate knowledge base, the docs look at us like we're stupid.

The students do not like the curriculum, the faculty do not like the curriculum, the docs at their training sites do not like the curriculum. It's been expressed to them constantly over the past years but administration has refused to listen to ALL of the feedback they've received because they're too far down the rabbit hole now.

ANYBODY who succeeds at that school is in spite of the medical school. Best case scenario, they don't slow down your own grasp of medical knowledge, worst case scenario they'll completely overwhelm you with simulations and mandatory classes that we find useless and will take away valuable time from your own learning.

They do absolutely nothing to help us prepare for Step 1 or Step 2 and are quite aware of it but don't seem to care.

Bottom line, if you have an acceptance from any other school, choose the other school.
This is from the What Medical Schools to Avoid thread. Any thoughts on this from accepted applicants and current students who are in this thread?

From an accepted student: YMMV. I saw this and was concerned, however, MSU is my only acceptance right now and I'm not turning it down. Maybe I'll change my mind, but I am still impressed by what MSU has to offer. I've seen negative opinions and positive opinions. And if it's like the person said "ANBODY who succeeds at that school is in spite of the medical school", I am prepared to take ownership and control of my own outcomes. I didn't work so hard to make it to med school to let the med school I attend pull me down. It's going to be a lot of work but others did it, there's no reason I can't!! Positive but realistic vibes here only haha

Thank you for sharing your perspective. A significant draw for MSUCHM is the low in state tuition compared to other schools like OUWB but I don't know if the curriculum will offset this. I was also interested in seeing their match list but was unable to find a detailed breakdown(#MSUMDMatch - College of Human Medicine - Michigan State University)

also from an accepted student: I personally feel like the original poster, who clearly has had a very poor experience at MSU CHM, is being dramatic. BUT, I also don’t doubt that there’s at least some validity. With a new curriculum comes flaws. Also, I still like the idea of shadowing nurses/PTs/etc despite this person saying it’s been a waste of time for them. I’m not too worried about their comment tbh, but I’ll be speaking to a student who graduated a year ago and see if he has any more knowledge about how students feel about the curriculum.

If you interviewed you can find the full breakdown for 2020 match in the interview day packet. 99% match rate. All of the students I know at MSU CHM love it. The 3rd year I know scored >260 on step 1. I have been advised to choose CHM over Wayne, Oakland and CMU. I have heard bad things about every medical school in Michigan; everyone has their own opinion. But hey, to each their own, talk to students and make your own conclusion! Just my 2 cents

Yes, you are correct. I did find the info in the interview day packet. Thanks for the advice.

pre interview R today 🙁
pre-ii R over here too gang gang. It was an oddly nice email it mentioned a personalized counseling session to go over weaknesses with an admissions counselor. Honestly wasn't expecting much LM 68-69 (low gpa) OOS ORM. Completed super late (like early oct iirc).

Do they accept updates here? I recently got 2 publications over the xmas break.
