2020-2021 Michigan State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Additional data point: placed on hold at some point during the last month. I never received an email about it, noticed the update in my portal, but there is no time/date stamp. Complete mid July, IS, LM 75.
Got an II literally 15mins after posting this! Something, something.... manifesting?

Canadian who just got the rejection 😂 should listened. Don’t waste ur money if your international. 511/3.92

Is it common to receive a decision 2 weeks from your interview? I interviewed 1/14 and know that today is a decision day per their website 😵

Just received the full accept on the portal and via email post background check! Congrats to all the rest of you who received acceptances!

To those who were rejected or placed on the alternate list, don’t give up on your dreams. About a year ago I received my final rejection concluding my application cycle with zero interview invites. I remember how disappointed and crushed I was, and how these feeling were magnified every time someone asked how applying was going or if I had heard anything yet. I remember how difficult it was to want something so badly, and the feelings of defeat that accompanied rejection after rejection after rejection. So as someone who has been there, I emphasize with you, and I just want to remind you to not give up on yourself. If you plan on reapplying the next cycle, start doing everything in your power now to continue making improvements to your application, and make sure to check out MSU’s self reflection guide. It may be hard to look ahead, but so much can change in a year’s time — this school went from being my first medical school rejection to my first interview invite to my first acceptance. Do not give up hope and keep on chasing your dreams. Best of luck to you all. 🙏🏻
What did you do to improve your app?

When was the last time we got an II in this thread? Feels like it's been nothing but pre-II Rs lately...
I emailed them the other day and one of the counsellors said that all II will be sent out in the next 3-4 weeks. If you don’t hear anything by then, you most likely got rejected.

Yikes, really hope those of us still waiting are considered then. Feels like MSU had two big waves in September and October and after that it was just random IIs sent out here and there.

I just received an II today! Was forwarded for preliminary review on 9/1/20. Super stoked as this is my top choice school and was worried about my low stats (508/3.05 sGPA/3.15 cGPA)

So happy for you! Mind if I ask if your were IS or OOS?

Guys is it worth it to reapply a 3rd time at this point? This was one of my top school :/ Did the reapplicant thing and was given the green light. Not sure how to improve 🤷🏿‍♂️! Also I hope this shreds light to the idea that URMs have it easy. Strong stats here but still got rejected twice.

It's the nature of the game bro, keep your head up continue hammering at it!

Welp, I think messed up :/ If you are a reapplicant is the self assessment mandatory to reapply?

Just got an email that my full acceptance is confirmed after my background check was clean. They also said in the email that financial aid packages are usually sent starting at the end of March.

Also got my full acceptance this morning! Background check was complete and released yesterday!
What did the formal acceptance entail? Any additional info than conditional acceptance? I'm waiting on a couple components but just curious. Thanks!

Does anyone know how common it is to actually get the campus (EL vs GR) you request? School location will probably make the decision for me come April 30th, and it seems like a 50/50 lottery.

My impression from talking to current students is that it's definitely not a lottery and they do take student preference into account. That being said, GR is the more popular campus, so if that's your request, you may end up on EL just due to the limited capacity. If you request EL you are more than likely to get it.

Thanks! Definitely shooting for GR (I'm sure EL is great, but being able to live at home would be better), so we'll see!

any tips for the interview here?? for the MMI portion, do they read you the prompts out loud or present on the screen?

My interviewer read some parts aloud, and then had me independently read some parts on screen. Good luck 🙂
Edit: the parts he read out loud were simultaneously presented on screen
