2020-2021 Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I saw you all chatting and checked my portal earlier today and nadda. Just checked it five minutes ago and I went straight to Interview Invite!!!

But....it says it is due on Sunday the 6th. How is that going to work?

Edit: I haven't gotten an email and I don't see anything about dates to select for an interview. Just the Checklist item "Interview." I'm assuming the email will have more info. Neuroticism has suddenly kicked back on. And here I had been doing so well...
Same for me! Changed yesterday at 11:00 am but no email yet... maybe that is their next step for people that are receiving IIs this week???

Edit: Just got the email!!!

Hi guys, for those who have been rejected- did they say this to you in your email "We understand that due to COVID-19 your MCAT score may not be available. We have taken that into consideration and after holistically reviewing your application have determined that minimum requirements have not been met."

What minimum requirements are they talking about? I thought they didn't have minimum mcat or gpa requirements....

Just got an II ... was not expecting to get one. For those wondering I have been in “committee” since 10/14. Also OOS no ties

Hi, congratulations on the interview invite! I posted recently about having had the same issues. I just wanted to share (for anyone else who might also be wondering!) that I received the official interview invite email earlier this afternoon.

The admission requirements and FAQ's from the website has a lot of great answers and specifics, so I encourage you to maybe check those out for some further guidance. Maybe a letter of recommendation issue or satisfying certain prerequisite? They could also want to see some minimum service hours demonstrating a genuine interests in working with rural or medically underserved communities as it is a large part of the schools overall mission. I know they had a large influx of applicants this year so keep that in mind that as well as some important data points from their website and the 2020 profile.

Average Cumulative GPA: 3.4
Average Science GPA: 3.4
MCAT Score Average (highest): 503
Applicants: 4455
Supplemental Applicants: 2199
Applicants Invited to Interview: 872
Offers Made: 326
Of the 144 Matriculants, 65% (94) were from the 5-state catchment (WA,OR,AK,MT,ID)
Additionally, from the Choose DO explorer page,
"educates and trains students to become osteopathic physicians that provide research-driven quality care to communities of the Northwest, particularly in rural and medically underserved populations" and "dedicated to attracting students from communities of the Pacific Northwest region (i.e., WA, OR, ID, MT and AK), and rural or medically underserved areas throughout the United States"

Further IMO and from friends who go here, the admissions team does ACTUALLY seem to do a thorough and genuine review of applications. From my experience speaking with either Ashley or Hope on the admissions team, they've been really supportive and easy to talk to when I've called or emailed about questions I had regarding my application. If you cant find the answers on the website, and if you're dead set on PNWU, email politely asking for some guidance on improving your application that would make you shine for next years cycle.
FYI, This is my top choice and feels the best fit, I'm a first time applicant, secondary submitted, under committee since 10/26, and will be submitting my first MCAT in January...:smack:

Wow! Out of the applicants invited to interview and the offers made, that...is a low chance of acceptance - about 37%.

Oh well...one cannot get too picky about this mad-cap process.

For those who interviewed here or other schools in general, if you gained additional shadowing experience between the time after submitting your secondary and the actual interview, do you have to update that in AACOMAS/PNWU portal at all or can I freely discuss recent shadowing experience during the interview? This is my first II so I am very excited! Thanks!!

They're going to assume you continued living your life and doing good things. Feel free to discuss recent experiences. Not necessary to update AACOMAS but may wish to send an update letter to PNWU.

Waitlisted!! From New England so that in itself kind of makes sense. Interview went well on 11/18! May withdraw because I think my other A's are better options for me based on location, price, etc. but undecided yet!

looking to send my primary here, is there an mcat cut off or pre-screen?

Deny post-supplemental.. was on committee since 10/15. Bummed as this was one of my top choices. OOS (CA), 507, 3.3 GPA
Our son was also denied. OOS (VA), 512 MCAT, 3.6 GPA. Fortunately he has other A's but this was an option we hoped for since most of our family lives in WA. Good luck with the remainder of the cycle!

Hi! So I got an email from Hope Ennis stating that my application was under review by the committee a week ago, but when I checked my application status it still said no decision. I was wondering if anyone else experienced something similar to this. Thanks!

I got my 'under review" email on 11/18 and my status on the self-service portal changed from "no decision" to "committee" on 12/1. So it might take a week or two before the status on ur self-service portal change

For those who’ve interviewed already, how many of you had your interview date bumped up? I’ve signed up to be on the waitlist for an earlier date, but just wanted to get a sense of the likelihood of that happening.

Initially, I was suppose to interview in February 2021. A few days after I confirmed my interview for Feb 2021, they bumped me up to Dec 2nd. 🙂

I got accepted!!!!! Sooooooo Excited!!! Interviewed on December 16th, they responded on the 23rd (posting late due to spending holiday time with family, COVID conscious, of course. Only took 6 days to get a response from them!!! There are a few others that I had a group session with that I sincerely hope to see as my classmates next fall, so many qualified people just CRUSHING IT!!!! Congrats to all who made it through!!! And best of luck to everyone still waiting in the wings. Good things can happen!!!

Stats, in case anyone is wondering:

MCAT: 502, 123PHYS/124BIO/128CARS/127PSYCH; 3.56 Cumulative GPA, 3.42 science GPA

12 years of post undergrad experience, double major in Hispanic studies and natural science (biochem concentration),minor in philosophy. 4 published papers (all Environmental Science and Policy related, not health care), 2500+ hours of direct patient care (scribe, group home personal care assistant), 4 years of volunteer experience (AmeriCorps and international experience), outdoor rec. professional guide for 2+ years (and still part time, 6 years later, lol). 5 years as an environmental scientist for state government. Almost all experience in rural parts of America, mostly in Northern California. Kind of a random path, but worked for me. Definitely a non-traditional student.

If it can happen for me, it can happen for anyone!!!!!

Just looking to celebrate for a minute, thanks for indulging me. I wish everyone the absolute best!!!!!!

Anyone else here with a later interview date (mine's in March!) who is hoping they get moved up too?

EDIT: Just got moved to Jan. 28! 🙂
EDIT #2: Just got moved up again to Jan. 13.

I have an interview on the 28th, anyone have any tips, tricks, or things to prepare for. I'm getting really nervous looking at all these replies!

Make sure you practice on how to answer MMI questions. Know your application very well. It's normal to be nervous but it is always helpful to think that the school wants to give you an acceptance but you have to show them that they are right. Have fun!

I know people have said that being on committee is like being on a hold but is there a good number of people that have been on committee received interviews?

Got an II earlier this week! There was only one day available in April, but hoping that earlier dates open up. I was on committee status since 11/03 so there’s still hope for those still waiting!

Did you get a notification via email?? I'm hoping mine moves up to February!

Hi everyone! For those who got accepted, how did you prepare for the interview? This is my first one and I'm nervous. I only have 1 other interview so I want to do well. Not sure where to start with prep. I appreciate any help!
