2020-2021 University of Florida

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Very interviewer dependent. Both of mine seemed to have questions written down that they referred to in order to progress the conversation. One interviewer was much more formal than the other. The conversations flowed well in both interviews and it was a very two-sided conversation despite sometimes being asked direct questions.
LOL thats exactly how mine went too. Definitely more reassuring hearing someone have a similar experience and I was not the only one. Thanks yall!

Interesting. Would it be a bad sign if the interview becomes more of you just answering their questions one after another (less "conversational") rather than a two-sided exchange? Or is that also a question of the interviewer?

Again, very interviewer dependent.

My impression was that they were very impressed with our interview group on October 9. Rejections aren't even on the table. The adcoms told us we'll either get an acceptance or a waitlist. And if we do receive a waitlist, they said "stay in contact with the admissions office and update us if UF is your top choice." Both of my interviewers both emphasized that they already were impressed with our applications and the interviews served mostly for us to ask questions. Not to artificially inflate anyone's expectations, but my interpretation is that most of us will receive good news on October 20.

Just wanna caution you, even though its either A or waitlist, their waitlist does get much love or movement, so in all reality, its a soft R. I mean still great that we get decisions essentially so soon. Hopin for the best for you, me, and all our other peeps Oct. 20th still.

so like I'm a very very average applicant and haven't heard anything, are they only interviewing like more competitive applicants right now or.....?

I interviewed October 11. They didn’t say this to our group so... idk what that means. But they said we would receive our decisions on October 20 as well.

UF is one of those schools that cares more about what you did and who you are as a person rather than your stats. I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard about an interview yet.

thanks 🙂 I'm at UF for undergrad and at this point my stats are more competitive for DO programs which I have already been accepted to but still holding on to hope

How big of a role do yall think VITA will play?? Ik they said that they assess applications holistically and that VITA will be used as a supplemental source of information, but I feel like mine went pretty bad. Not sure if that will be the reason I don't get an A lol.

Unless there is an adcom member on this thread, no one can tell for sure. IMHO, doing well or not well on VITA is very subjective - because there is no scoring or prior history. Also, I don't think you will lose your spot just because of VITA. Good luck. Keep us posted.

I got a call for an interview today so I asked how they plan to use VITA. They said it's at the admission committee's discretion, but they do not plan to use it against you. So if your interviewers had conflicting opinions about you, they will consult VITA to give you an extra chance. They also said it is not considered too highly in their decision making. I don't know if they were just being nice to me so I wouldn't worry about it, but I plan to have hope that they told me the truth. Hope that helps!

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing when you submitted your secondary?

Congratulations on your interview invite! And yes, that definitely helps out! Thanks!

I was complete on 8/2. LM 78, OOS, ORM. I wouldn't say I had strong ECs but I had unique ones. I don't use SDN a lot so I don't know if I covered all the info you might need. Thank you 🙂

I was told 20th as well, but I interviewed literally 5 days ago so I figured some of the people who were interviewing last month would prolly get their decisions starting the 15th.

My interview was 9/25.

For tomorrow, will we receive a call if we get put on the waitlist or does everyone receive a phone call to inform them of their decision?

I could hardly sleep last night overthinking my interview answers (silly, I know lol). Sending positive vibes and a big air hug to everyone!

Remember - The times we receive the call will vary greatly depending on our interviewers' schedules. Don't get strung up by the SDN wave, some just received acceptance emails/calls at the end of the evening.

You could hardly sleep? Me: literally has a dream that I was talking to Dr. Lynch just before decisions went out and he's on the fence about me and I'm panicking to persuade him why UFCOM should take me in 😆

*Neurotically googles my interviewers for any insight on their hourly Tuesday schedule*

y'all freaking out about decisions but what about all of us who have yet to get II and probably never will 😢

? because i also.. have not received an II... lol

I promise you, they are moving super slowly! I know my N=1, but I am SMP'er with very mediocre stats (MCAT 509), and for what it is worth, I really do think UF looks for a good fit and does holistic admissions.

Heck, I still don't think I'll get in at all, but this process is too taxing and frankly unsustainable if we go about comparing ourselves to everybody else. Remember, even if not UF, our lives will be enriched by the lives of future peers and patients we have yet to meet. Be kind and be patient with yourselves. 😊

omg i am so glad i’m not the only one LOL i was like seriously just go to SLEEP STOP THINKING ABOUT IT

Do yall think I might have shot myself in the foot if I sent in a letter of intent which restated that UF was my #1 choice as well as some updates? I know there is a box for updates specifically, but the letter felt bare if all it had was me saying I love UF lmfaoo, but now I'm worried they'll be like wow he can't read directions and provide updates where they're supposed to go.

Nah, though you should also upload it on the portal to save them the trouble of having to do it. That is what I was recommended when I submitted an update to my transcripts in August (after emailing them).

Their staff is too kind to say "wow he can't follow directions," that sounds more to me like the USF admin LOL.

HAHAH "sounds like USF" 😆 but ya no I already uploaded it as a single document within my portal, I never emailed it to them, so tbh there might be a chance they haven't even looked at, I was just being neurotic in terms of adding updates into my LOI and if they're even receptive to a LOI lol.

Were there any guidelines for the profile picture we upload? Eg. background, size (pixels), etc. Or is it just whatever we think looks professional?
P.S. best wishes to everyone waiting to hear back today, be excited but don't panic 🙂
