2021-2022 Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I saw a few posts about being added to a group for those who were accepted, just wondering how I could be added in?

Are they still interviewing? I have yet to receive a post-secondary II-invite or rejection

I interviewed yesterday, and during the admissions overview webinar I attended before the interview the person who hosted it indicated that MSUCOM was two thirds of the way through the cycle.
What’s the dress code for the admissions overview webinar?

Interviewed yesterday, interviewer did like 85% of the talking so I don’t really know how to feel about my performance
mine was the opposite. I talked a lot and I feel like I didn't give him some space to talk and I don't know if it was conversational because of that 🙄

Has anyone been accepted this past Thursday or Friday or recently?

I had my interview last week and I am so nervous to hear back. My interviewer ended the interview with "Best of luck in the future" which I thought implied that I wouldn't be getting in. I know I'm being neurotic but does this seem normal to anyone else? It was my only interview so I dont have a reference point to compare it to

My interviewer said “I’m sure you will do great wherever you go” at the end. And I thought about it over and over trying to interpret it, like “I’m not going to MSUCOM but I’ll do great wherever else I go?” But MSUCOM is my only interview… or it could be my interviewer didn’t want to assume that I will come to MSUCOM because he doesn’t know whether or not I got other choices.

I’d like to think of it being the latter. Also, at the info session, they talked about how after the interview the admissions committee will take another look at the whole application. It’s not like once we got an II, the only thing that matters is our performance on the interview day. So I wouldn’t say the interviewer necessarily know the outcome of our applications at the end of each interview.

You make some really good points! I guess I just need to relax and remind myself that I did what I could and there's no point in stressing over it now

Yeah, I feel the sentiment. A part of me keeps saying that it is late and they are out of seats and just interviewing for the WL and I have to keep reminding myself that they are only about 2/3 full and give more A's than they have seats (b/c not all A go to their school).

At this point there is nothing more to do than relax and try to keep ourselves distracted.

Just finished my interview. Was the most informal interview I've had this cycle. Pretty much just a conversation. But that also means with lack of structured questions, you've gotta remember to thread your answers/stories with things that convey who you are.

TLDR Be yourself + a smidge of STAR responses

I promise all of the interviewers say something to this effect and I'm sure most of us who were accepted wondered the same thing. Don't let it eat away at you. Closing out an interview is awkward sometimes and these are polite and open-ended ways of doing that since they don't have all the info (other acceptances, what the committee will think/say, etc.). 🙂

Anybody who interviewed two weeks ago received anything? Do they send an email if we weren't able to pick up the phone?

Withdrew my acceptance here today after getting into my top choice school. Good luck to everyone! Really wish these deposits weren't non-refundable though🙁(((

For me, the email came a full day after the phone call. I'm guessing it would be similar if you weren't able to answer at the time.

Anyone know if they’ve stopped sending II invites
Unless they added more dates since January, the last two interview dates are today and March 7th. However, last year they interviewed until the end of the month so I could be wrong

I wish they would just tell us today whether we're in or not. At this point I'm just stressed and want to get it over with😭

MSU spring break is coming up 3/7-3/11 does that mean people waiting to hear back from interviews will have to wait one week longer? I know the people in January got about 1-2 weeks response time I wonder in February interviews will be in the same boat?

Anyone got any insights here?

I got accepted and was put into the macomb campus (3rd choice) but the east lansing (1st choice) opened up. I have to reply by tomorrow but im confused. I feel like east lansing has more activities to do but macomb has the more modern campus and only 50 students so I would be closer to them.

Are there any traditional students coming out of undergrad. going to macomb campus? and how many students are at the east lansing campus...i heard 200? Also do the professors only lecture at east lansing campus?

Current 3rd year here. I can only comment on my experience with my class as each class may be different. I chose the EL campus because I wanted to have a larger class size. Roughly 200 at EL versus 50 at Macomb. I made great friends at the EL campus and our class was very close until around 2nd year. Cliques will develop regardless of which location you choose. I really enjoyed EL since it had the college town feel and I went heree for undergrad and wasn't quite ready to leave that experience in the past. Professors "mainly" teach from EL however there are a decent amount of professor at Macomb. Tbh most people dont go to class anyway, so I wouldnt really factor that in as much. If you have more specific questions feel free to ask.

I am leaning more towards EL and the only thing that kept me debating was the class sizes. Macomb I felt like the class would be closer due to the small size...but even at Macomb you probably would have cliques and not know the entire class. But for EL how big are the OMM classes ...are those the people you usually end up being close with it. If you dont mind me asking, why wasn't the class that close during the 2nd yr...the class schedules?

Also are the buildings in EL old? I heard they were old dorm buildings, so do they still have the facilities like the other campuses.

Yeah I’m sure the Macomb class in general is closer to eachother than EL, but being in EL it was very easy for me to find my group since there were so many. I liked to go out and be social, and a lot of those people who did the same are the friends that I still have now. So I wouldn’t say you have to make friends with your OMM group but it’s easy to get to know people there. By 2nd year, most cliques have formed and in general it’s a lot more stressful than first year. Less people go out since they’ve already made friends, and studying for boards etc becomes more of a priority. I shouldn’t say we weren’t close, we were just busier.

And yeah the building is super old. They just updated the study area my 1st year which is decently nice, lots of cubicles and a couple study rooms. I like that area a lot tbh but there are a ton of places to study in East Lansing since it’s a college campus.

For my fellow late Feb Interviewees it looks like no A have been sent out yet. My guess is that they will be sent next week Thursday (b/c apparently the adcoms don't take spring break). Let's try and enjoy the weekend and best of luck next week!

do they have a computer lab? or at least computers at the cubicles?

Just got the WL email 🙃. It says it's first tier WL, can someone explain to me what that means? And how likely is it to get pulled from the WL? And long do they usually take to make a final decision?
Based on past SDN treads I have read, some years everyone on the tier 1 WL gets in 🙂

If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?
