2021-2022 Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To make sure, for the HIPAA certification requirement for the interview, we just have to open the link on our Checklist, read through the slides, and fill out the certification at the end then download/submit that pdf of the certificate? We do not need to log into any webiste for the training since we do not have a UMich account, right?
Just scroll to the bottom and open up the actual certificate. After that, type your name and the date on it and save the pdf. Lastly upload. You can read the whole thing if you want but you can skip reading all of it.

Does anyone know if they will still be sending out interviews? I haven't heard anything yet. Have people already been notified that their file has been closed?
Michigan sends out interviews every Monday in no particular order of when you submitted. They are about 58% through their II process so there is still time as far as I can tell. You can see how far along they are here.

how polished do the pre-interview essays need to be? just trying to gauge how much time to spend on it
Its best to be the on the safe side and put in a reasonable amount of effort. None of what I wrote was explicitly mentioned in my interview, but with that in mind, the interview is only one piece. I am sure you already have stuff you can use from other secondaries.

What is pre-interview essay — so theirs still more writing to be done if invited for an interview ?

During the interview week, does Thursday's "7:30-9:00 p.m. - Get to Know Blue chat with all interviewees and medical students" require formal attire or also allow casual like Monday's (heard it was casual attire via SDN)?

casual! it's a chill event

How are my fellow october interviewees hanging in there during this pre-november decision date time??? I, for one, am ~very anxious~
I am so nervous, i interviewed 10/1 and was dreading the 2 month wait lol. Since they came out 5 days earlier for the first batch, anyone have hope it’ll be before nov 22?

Not loving my odds for this school based on my stats but does anyone know if Michigan accepts update letters? not seeing anything on their secondary portal or on their website

Does anybody know what percentage of interviewers are accepted outright vs deferred then accepted? Hoping for acceptance as this is my top choice but not getting my hopes up.

Did they tell the first batch of interviewers to expect on oct 23 or 16?

They mentioned in their weekly twitter update this week that YES, they do accept update letters! On the secondary portal, you need to open "View Checklist," scroll down, and you'll see spaces to upload an update letter to your file.

Yeah I wasn’t sure whether to send one or not but that message has kind of reassured me that it at least won’t reflect negatively on one’s application.

I'd love to know this, too, but can't quite figure it out

I saw that you got deferred earlier in the thread. Do you mind my asking whether it was roughly the same time as acceptances were released? Or was it the next day?

11/22 Decision gang wya 🥺

We still here for another 6 days
I’m waiting on ten schools and this is my top choice but I feel if I don’t get in here I won’t get in anywhere given interview to acceptances conversion

Sort of regret not sending letter of intent so as to not leave any cards on the table

^^ samee. does anyone know if they're having current students who are close friends to an applicant call them for an acceptance this cycle?

Was really hoping they would release decisions earlier like they did with the September group but it does not look like they will 🙁
I have a feeling they might do friday like how they released it on the friday before the last decision date

Edit: lol guess not!! 🤡 see y’all monday!

anyone else coping with waiting for oct decisions by going through past michigan threads? I've now gone back to 2014 lmao
Part of me wishes it wasn’t so close to Thanksgiving because I think that it may ruin the holiday. Really starting to regret telling my relatives that I applied in the first place.
