2022-2023 Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They have been variable. All of the questions seem to be catered on how they interpret your app. Mine was literally a question asking me to describe an ethically immoral experience I’ve had in clinic. No other ethical questions.
Oh so when people are saying that they were asked ethical questions in an interview, is this meaning they want you to describe an ethically difficult situation you've had in one of your experiences rather than "tell me your opinion on (X ethical debate)"?

No. I’m saying everyone had different questions. Mine was asking to describe a situation and how I responded.

I requested casper to send my scores into acom last week and haven't seen it checked off on the checklist and its my last item. Should I email acom about this to see if they recieved it?

I would call to confirm, they’re super nice and helpful.

Hey guys! Hope everyone's not too stressed out so far 🙂 But I've been stuck at 88% for over 3 weeks now, was pending Casper, but my score was released like 2-3 weeks ago. Should I contact them?

My Casper score released last Monday and I was complete the next day. Got II Thursday

I got a reviewed- no interview, is this the end with ACOM :/

It says “Reviewed - no interview” on your portal? Did they send email?
yup and yea they sent an email! email is as follows:

Thank you for your application to the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM). We have completed a full review of the documents you provided. The Admissions Committee has not selected you for an interview at this time.

ACOM receives over 5,000 applications a year and there are a number of factors influencing admissions decisions. The admissions process is competitive. Higher GPA and MCAT scores along with your required experiences result in improved chances for an interview.

Please continue to keep your AACOMAS application updated. We are automatically notified when you make changes to your application.

Again, thank you for your interest in ACOM.

Sorry to hear, but I don't think you're leaving this cycle without an A from somewhere

emailed admissions counselor and this is what I was told: Unfortunately, the MCAT is not quite high enough to be given an interview right now. If we decide to pull more students for an interview, we will revieiw applications again. Currently, it is a rejection because your MCAT is not quite enough for an interview, but I have seen them pull students from the rejection list later in the cycle.

So maybe all is not lost?

Damn that sucks. Is your MCAT under 500?
Im still on "interview waitlist hold" I thought that was basically a rejection.
I didnt realize that they actually send emails like that.

498 MCAT. What's weird is WCUCOM offered me a secondary lmfao, so I thought my chances here would be decent

It seems that the post II acceptance rate is 50%. Is it higher earlier in the cycle due to more open seats?

Is September 2nd considered early?
Still fairly early as far as DO schools go, but ACOM starts interviews/acceptances earlier than most schools, so I would say it's "on time" for ACOM. Good luck!

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood. September 2 as a complete date would be "on time" for ACOM. Interviewing on September 2 should still be considered early in terms of acceptance rate. The rate remains relatively high through the fall and really only drops after the winter break (once the first round of deposits are due and ACOM has an idea of the number of committed students). Even then, you're more likely to be waitlisted rather than rejected in the spring (the school tends to have a fair amount of waitlist movement, so it's not the end by any stretch of the imagination). Good luck with your interview!

The ethics question varies based on who is interviewing you. They can range from "What would you do if you saw a classmate cheating?" to describe what you would do if you were an attending and your colleague was noticeably impaired.

Some don't ask at all.

Are they normally fast at sending decisions post interview? I interview 08/19 and it would be awesome to see if I get an A before the month ends.

How many days before the date of my interview should I expect to receive an email with the zoom link and exact time of my interview?

Does anyone know if its possible to stay in Dothan for all four years?

Yes, you can match to the Dothan core site and spend all four years here! The number of spots varies every year, but it's typically 5-10, I believe.

Anything like spending pre-clinical years there, and spending rotation years elsewhere? No offense, but Dothan sounds dull
Yeah, that's what everyone else will do. Two years in Dothan for pre-clinical, and then two years at a core site for clinical. The core sites are mainly in Alabama, but there's one in Gulfport, Mississippi, and six or so in Florida.

None taken! It's definitely not for everyone, but I find it quite welcoming and charming.

have any 8/15 interviewers received an email with the zoom link and exact time for interview?

When are we emailed the link to the interview?

can anyone share their interview questions? thank you

what do you consider "usual ones" this is my first interview.
Why ACOM? Why DO? Why medicine? They'll also ask you about specifics from your application. I would recommend using the SDN interview feedback to prepare. Honestly, though, it's a fairly low pressure interview. Just be yourself and try to enjoy your interview day. The school is really just trying to get to know you!

Hey everyone, after basically receiving an R and then asking for a re review I’m now on the interview waitlist, does anyone ever get off of this?

Yes, this school has massive WL movement.

How often does the portal update by any chance?

I submitted yesterday and am at 50%. I'm just missing the letters but I submitted mine through AACOMAs. Is this something they review themselves and update?

I submitted on Wednesday and am in the same exact position! I think they go through the letters and make sure that they have all of the requirements before marking them as complete. I got a message after I submitted saying they process applications at the beginning of each week, so I'm hoping to hear back on Monday or Tuesday.

Earlier in this thread, people were recommending to go based on the school's email to know if you're complete. I guess they don't always update the portal. Hopefully we get that email soon!
