JUST PREMATCHED! Absolutely over the moon!! Interviewed 8/26! I got the call from Dr. Cable who I think will lead the Temple Campus... is that indicative of where they will place me or were the calls just randomly split between him and Dr. Vallejo?
Congrats! May I ask what your stats might be?

Prematched last night around 9:10 PM CST! I also got the call from Dr. Cable, he was so nice to call me back even after working hours since I couldn't pick up his original call. EXTREMELY excited! 😵‍💫
finally the universe is being set right! We dont want a world where LM 81s from IS are ignored by schools like Baylor and UTSW.

are pre-matches done for the year?
The schools close at the end of this week for a 2 week break. So unless the deans are still making decisions and calling people during the break, it must happen this week.

Has any OOS applicant received an A yet? Or anybody know of someone who has?

Is it possible to not have to drive to class/the hospitals if I go here? I really wanna just use my car for groceries/going out and not commuting. Any MS1s that can chime in?

If you get an apartment or condo on the tram line you can commute to and from school on that. It stops right in front of the school

OFF TOPIC- Does anyone know if other Texas schools are aware of what schools someone interviewed at?

Yes, at the point when they are offering you an interview, they can see where else you have interviewed. They cannot see any notations of other schools about your interview, etc., just that you have had an interview.

What are everyone's thoughts on the Temple campus? Does anyone know anyone who prefers Temple due to proximity to family/lower cost of living? Also, how will Baylor decide who gets which campus? All thoughts welcome -- thanks!

Some people will prefer it and that will let the rest of you fret less!
I am sure that Baylor will at some point ask their accepted students whether they have a preference and they will make assignments as fairly as they can

No one knows for sure how Baylor will assign the campus. But one thing I've heard from others is that you will not receive a lower quality education in Temple and will likely not hold you back from applying to competitive specialties.

For anyone deciding, I think the BCM Temple open house will be a great idea.

Little note on the Temple/Houston sorting - Dr. Vallejo mentioned during my prematch call that they will place the students who prefer Temple at Temple first, and then fill the rest based on a "variety of factors". He definitely mentioned demographics as a factor because they want both campuses to be relatively balanced, but I'm not sure how else student fit will be evaluated for Temple. It doesn't seem like it'll be a complete random lottery out of the students who prefer Houston, though.

someone here mentioned before that they’ll use their rank list also which could mean that highly rankled applicants (aka prematched) get preference. not verified though.

Yes I thought I remembered that from my interview day. But please don’t quote me on that!

As an OOS applicant, how do we hear back? Interviewed today & saw something about rolling admissions but I can only seem to find info for in-state applicants on Google...

Dr. Vallejo was adamant that we not favor certain students. So prematched students will not receive any preference. Once you're in it's all equal!

Does anyone know if the Temple campus will have cadavers and an anatomy lab? I know some new medical schools don't initially.
They're taking over the old A&M spaces including the cadaver labs. They're refreshing everything, but you will for sure have an anatomy lab and cadavers.

Some thoughts after visiting the Temple campus:

-BCM Temple is currently renovating A&M's previous research building into the med school building. Renovations are being done right now. It's separated from the hospital but is walking distance. We only saw the lobby so have no idea how it will look.
-TAMU's last class is graduating in 2024 so all signs and logos on buildings will remain A&M until then.
-There are very nice apartment complexes just across the street.
-No med school-specific cafeteria or rec center.
-The underlying message I got from Dr. Cable and others is that at BCM Temple, you will get LOTS of clinical exposure and will have many physicians wanting to teach you.
-If basic science research is your thing, Houston may be the better choice. Dr. Cable mentioned that clinical research is the focus at Temple.

Overall I'm excited to see what the facilities will look like once renovations are complete and how it will change next year after A&M's class graduates.

I was planning to move with my long-term partner (umarried, been together for 7 years) to Houston. They have a permanent job in Houston. Do we think this could give me preference for Houston even though we arent married. If not, I will probably rank another Houston medical school first. Let me know your thoughts (I know that nobody knows for sure). Thanks yall!

Make sure you make this factor known for your preference when asked

Realistically speaking, you may have a very good shot at UTH and with an acceptance from UTSW and Long, I am unsure why they have not extended an offer (are they aware of your partner and location preference). It is possible that they dont expect you to come and so they want you to deliberately rank them number 1.

The problem everyone and you have with Baylor at the moment is that they have not been forthcoming with a real process as to how they plan to allocate people other than saying they will take it into consideration. If your goal is Houston as a location and not a specific school, why would you rank them as number 1 over UTSW/Long which are great schools and being able to rank UTH and probably get the preferred location over something so uncertain with Baylor.

Baylor put some circumstances on their website that would allow a person to request a campus re-assignment if they did not get their first choice. Permanent employment of a spouse is one of them, but it does say "spouse" and not "partner" so not sure how they would handle your situation...

If an Adcom member from Baylor is on this thread: Please, please, please be more transparent about this and send some information about the internal match before we have to solidify our match lists.

There's so much conflicting info floating around about it lol

Thanks for your input - great to think about. I appreciate it.

I had posted my educated opinion that pre-matched students might get their first choice. However this seems to be refuted by what the dean has told applicants in recent interview days.
This is the first year for the situation of 2 Baylor locations so it's new to all of us.

I live out of state and was waiting till 2023 to schedule a campus visit so I could be certain of my availability. Turns out all the campus visit spots are full 🙁. I’ve been placed on a waitlist, so if anyone’s not planning on going that is signed up please let them know haha.

Any suggestions on how to get a holistic feel of the campus/community if I can’t go to an official visit?

If you ask admissions they should be able to connect you with some current students

Thanks for posting the link, @pugsygirl17 I think it explains the campus assignment process in great detail

Anyone has any idea of when the next round of pre-matches is happening?😢😢
