2022-2023 New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have not heard anything at all since I completed my interview back in September and I saw that some WL have already gone out. I was drafting a letter of continued interest but now I'm thinking I am being silently rejected and don't know whether to finish my letter and send it or just take it as an R.
You can send an update to show you are interested!

i was browsing some emails and i noticed that at the end of a VCOM email, the director for admissions wrote "Do you have a friend in this year’s application cycle? Please let me know if you think I should check out their application!". is this only for VCOM or is this a normal thing to do for all medical schools?

Edit: most likely just a vcom thing
One thing you can do if you have friendly connections at NYITCOM is ask them to write a letter on your behalf to NYITCOM admissions. My freshman-year roommate did this for me.

II today.
1) just wanna make sure all I have to do is sign up via signup genius and I’m good after the confirmation?
2) anyone know the historical info behind getting a ii this late in terms of WL and how that transfers to an A?
Thanks

Edit: also any interview advice would be appreciated!

Went thru feb->may of last year's thread. We def getting WL if not an R. movement happened mid-April (15?) and a bit more early to mid May. Maybe some more after. It also looked like they WL a lot of ppl who don't get off the list(I think), unlike other schools ik of.

We prob will be WL mid march

Does anyone know who I should contact if I want more info about the bridge program?

1) Yes, just signup, and you are good. If you can, attend the pre-interview welcome session as well.
2) I imagine everyone getting interviewed at this time gets a WL. Over the past few years, there was a massive WL in February. They broke free of that trend this year though. Come mid-April, they should start pulling candidates off the WL. It isn't ranked formally, but I believe they pull the higher applicants first regardless.
3) Show early. Prepare for the common questions, but don't sound over-rehearsed. Be yourself. Smile, and show confidence without cockiness. Be passionate. When I interviewed and they asked me how I was doing, I told them "excited, but also nervous...I really wanna go to this school." That should be a great answer.

Good luck!

Hi guys ! I was accepted back in November (submitted app end of august, interview invite 9/16, interviewed 10/7, accepted 11/11). Some of my stats: 508 mcat, 3.92 gpa, 3.8something science gpa, OOS (nj). Felt that the interview was short and they literally just read questions directly off the paper, wasn’t very conversational but the questions were pretty generic and easy.

I’m very happy to be here and excited to start getting to know everyone 🙂🙂

Hope you join and leave an introduction!

For the interview. What did y’all do to prepare, knowing who is interviewing you? It’s the only interview where I know who is interviewing me so idk what I should do to put my best foot forward. Thanks

that int was different, to say the least. I felt like I did terribly lol. it was like answering a formal questionnaire. finished in 20 minutes...

also had this experience, also my interviewer was really stoic and left a bad impression on me…
same, I interviewed back in September and I swear my interviewer wasn't even paying attention. They looked completely spaced out and uninterested. Literally didn't hear back until months later that I'd been WL.

although I wasn’t expecting much already, hearing this makes it seem less likely I’ll even get a WL.

Does anyone know about their WL movement historically? Also if anyone else who had a bad experience like we did, did u get an A?

This is what I heard . The interviewer basically chooses one of the two options - Recommend or Not recommend. If they recommend your file gets debated by committee to offer "A" or "WL" or even "R". The ADCOM file discussion is the most important component .

Can you still get accepted if the interviewer chooses to not recommend you?

Why do you think your recommender didn't recommend you? The interview's disinterest may not mean they didn't recommend you. Sometimes forcing a faculty member who has a busy schedule to nterview could be the issue . If you get WL that means interviewer did recommend you but the ADCOM made the decision based on their file discussion.

I don't necessarily think that. More along the lines of just curious if the interviewer has the authority to reject an applicant altogether.

Anyone? v curious as to the stats. i got wl despite having a great interview. wondering if that’s because my MCAT wasn’t high enough
According to SDN the median is 505 so there have to be a decent amount of ppl who got in with a sub-507. WL are common this late in the cycle.

Does anyone know their decision turnaround time? I got no additional info after the interview...just sitting here clueless lol

Unable to enter my portal, seems like the cycle has ended but I have yet to hear a pre-II R 😒

I interviewed January 13. Earlier in the January interview cycle. The last day of interviews for my group was January 30. I got my acceptance February 10. They sent out WLs on February 16, if my memory serves correctly.

What they told me at the pre-interview welcome session was that it could take a couple of weeks through around the summertime.

Does anyone have info on the master's program, MS in medical simulation? If i received an offer for this, does that mean i have no chance of getting off the waitlist for this cycle?

my ******* forgot to send in a letter post interview. It’ll basically be a thank you/ update/ letter of interest all in one. is it too late to send one in. If not, how do I send in the letter?

You can just email your interviewer! You can google the person’s name and it usually shows up! That’s what I did at least post-interview haha

Gotchu but for a loi, where would I submit that tho🤔

Thanks. I literally have nooooo idea what’s going on lmao. No follow up email, no info about the current schools status, nothing…doesn’t leave a good impression of the school tbh.

Same, it’s been over a month for me since my interview and I’ve had zero notice on anything. I don’t mind being rejected but I would like it if they told me straight forward 😭

Question for those who attended the admitted students tour on campus. Was it worthwhile? I couldn't attend the previous ones and am considering attending the next one.

thanks in advance
