Not to mention that it is AT LEAST weekly that students send out their study materials to the rest of the class - let alone all the study notes that are shared in pods each day.So I personally am very happy with the school. Pros are that you literally get to make your own schedule, the faculty are all extremely nice and very very helpful, and the other students are easy to get along with. I have yet to meet someone that I haven't vibed with. We have a great collaborative culture here that I feel is rare is medical school. People aren't afraid to drop what they're doing to help you answer a question or help you figure out a topic you're confused on. The faculty are very responsive to feedback and answer questions to the fullest extent. Cons for the school would be that if you have trouble keeping your own schedule, it might be tricky to navigate the demands of this school because literally everything is dependent on you. That being said, the faculty are more than willing to help with giving advice on how best to overcome such obstacles, and they really do ease you into everything so it's easier to adjust. Overall, I really don't have any negatives because the school wants every student to succeed and reach their fullest potential, so they make sure you have everything you need to do that.
For boards and match, I think pretty much every medical student is worried about those. Although we don't have stats for our school yet, I feel that our faculty are extremely qualified, and I have every confidence that they will get us to where we need to be for boards. They also work hard to make sure we have great extracurriculars to make us stand out for match.
Really seems like the whole “pre-med competition” phase doesn’t continue at Noorda. Honestly sounds like it would be quite enjoyable to attend there. It hasn’t and it’s frankly appalling that there are “gunners” at other schools who try to get ahead by trying to put their classmates behind. I think we all hope the culture of collaboration not competition continues in future classes!Really seems like the whole “pre-med competition” phase doesn’t continue at Noorda. Never had Dutch bros before! There's a Dutch Bros not too far away too.
Honestly, I think schools that are laser-focused on high stats over everything else will continue to have toxic learning environments. People don't realize how horrible it is for the mental health of students and that it carries into residency and beyond. It hasn’t and it’s frankly appalling that there are “gunners” at other schools who try to get ahead by trying to put their classmates behind. glad Utah has dutch!! here in cali there's one on like each block lolThere's a Dutch Bros not too far away too.
Thank you I think this answered my question. The school isn’t affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons, but they prefer the full name or LDS), but there are members of this church in the class. I think my class is like 40% LDS, but I don’t know about percentage in the 2nd class. The high percentage is probably due to the school being in Utah and a lot of students from Utah applied to the school.
Are there any non-Mormon friendly aspects you’re specifically wondering about? There’s lots of coffee shops and other places of worship and places to drink alcohol.
optional bootcamp, remember the dean talked about this on my interview dayI was looking up the academic calendar and there's a summer semester for two months and it says "Summer 2023 (optional for OMSI)" does anyone have more information on what this is?
Does Noorda have cadavers?

My portal updated a couple hours ago, and then I received an email 45 minutes ago.

It was bound to happen 🤣 congrats to everyone who got accepted!@ihavehopee ppl found about the trick LOL
I asked about it in my interview because my SMP program has let me dissect cadavers and it’s been an amazing experience, and they said yes but there are certain conditions. For anatomy class I believe they’re already prosected, but there is a class you can register for to fully dissect them. That’s my understanding at leastDoes Noorda have cadavers?
@drthedude we have two cadavers that are Noorda’s that are currently in Rocky Mountain’s cadaver lab. One of the cadaver’s contracts ends next year so that will go back to the donor program and presumptively we would get another one and hopefully more when we move into the new building!I asked about it in my interview because my SMP program has let me dissect cadavers and it’s been an amazing experience, and they said yes but there are certain conditions. I’m not a member myself, but just an FYI- I have friends who are, and they’ve told me that they prefer “LDS” over “Mormon.” I’m not sure if that’s across the board, but I’ve heard it from a few LDS members, so I just thought I’d share.@DrThankYouForYourTime so being Mormon, how does buying alcohol work? Specific times? I’ve heard from people at work that %alc/vol is also lower
Appreciate it! Will edit that in my actual post, and apologies!!I’m not a member myself, but just an FYI- I have friends who are, and they’ve told me that they prefer “LDS” over “Mormon.” I’m not sure if that’s across the board, but I’ve heard it from a few LDS members, so I just thought I’d share.
It depends when the next wave is! I submitted 8/19 and that was the day of the first wave and so I got an invite during second wave which was 9/19.For people that have interviewed- How long after being complete did you get the invite? From this thread I’m getting the impression that Noorda let’s you know pretty quick
Interesting so is it always the 19th when the next wave of interviews goes out?It depends when the next wave is! I submitted 8/19 and that was the day of the first wave and so I got an invite during second wave which was 9/19.
There was a wave on first week of oct so I am guessing it just dependsInteresting so is it always the 19th when the next wave of interviews goes out?
I think the turnaround was 4-5 days for me, but it looks like that has varied throughout the cycle! I think it has more to do with when you submit the secondary relative to when their next set of IIs will come out. You got this! For people that have interviewed- How long after being complete did you get the invite? From this thread I’m getting the impression that Noorda let’s you know pretty quick
So the restrictions on alcohol have more to do with the state of Utah itself rather than the LDS church. When you buy alcohol here, the state owns the stores, and they usually have more limited hours than liquor stores in other states. But buying the alcohol is the same as anywhere else@DrThankYouForYourTime so being LDS, how does buying alcohol work? Specific times? I’ve heard from people at work that %alc/vol is also lower
is the %/volume lower? Only reason I ask this is one of the nurses I work with visited Utah and told me it isSo the restrictions on alcohol have more to do with the state of Utah itself rather than the LDS church. Hey! Congrats on your acceptance! Current student here. I had the same question before starting school. The surface pro is the newest model (not sure what the number is). I'm not sure of the exact specs but they are the top of the line surface pros from my understanding. Most people use their surface pros all the time. Some use their Apple products primarily and surface pro for exams. Some (including myself) use a mix of products. I kept my old laptop and use it as a second screen at home and I ended purchasing an iPad before starting 2nd year (which has replaced any paper notebooks). So depending on how functional your current laptop is you could keep it or replace it! Some other current students might have some different opinions!I have been creeping on this thread for a while now, and I finally decided to sign up for an account on SDN so that I could respond. Hi everyone!! I interviewed on October 3rd and just got accepted on the 14th! OOS applicant.
So I had originally planned on purchasing a new laptop right before med school, but I saw that students get the Surface Pro (not sure what generation) as a part of tuition and fees. Now I'm wondering if I should bother replacing my old laptop. Does anyone have experience with the Surface Pro, and do you think it works as a good laptop replacement?
Thanks, this is good to know! I currently have a 2 in 1 that's non-detachable (hp spectre x360) and throughout undergrad I just took notes on there using the stylus. Was there a reason you decided to get an iPad instead of taking notes directly on the surface pro using the stylus that comes with it?Hey! Congrats on your acceptance! Current student here. So was the ipad a slightly unnecessary purchase? maybe... haha. My older laptop has a hard time running some of the programs we use (also unable to download our exam software for daily quizzes and exams) so it stays at home and the surface is my primary computer going back and forth with me to school. The ipad provides another writing surface and another screen so I'm not constantly filtering through tabs and applications on the surface pro. At the end of the day, the ipad has made things easier for me. I also use Microsoft's one note app for notes and such, so my notebooks synch between the surface and the ipad which is convenient. There is also an ios app for pretty much every 3rd party resource we have. Thanks, this is good to know! Omg!! I am going to be a doctor! I interviewed October 3rd and got my acceptance on 10/14. Honestly, still incredibly shocked that it's happening for me! Congratulations to everyone that's been accepted. I'm non traditional, a mother of two small kids, and I almost cried when I received my acceptance email. It's been a long journey and I'm so excited!
Honesty, stats were pretty low. 501 MCAT, 3.1gpa, and also did a masters program. Noorda considers the last 60 units as a separate metric, and I believe that helped me. Hoping you get moved up soon!
Congrats to all those that got accepted! Join the GroupMe if you’d likeMade one here: You're invited to my new group 'Noorda-COM Class of 2027' on GroupMe.
Accepted people, DM @drthedude for the Groupme link 🙂
Good question. I only remember reading about pre-secondary rejections so I'd love to know.Has anyone received a rejection? Or has everyone either been accepted or placed on a waitlist?
