Hey, does anyone know of a past applicant who got deferred after early decision and got in?

LM 84, complete first week of august, haven’t heard back yet…anyone in the same boat?

Sorry if this has been asked, but do they ask which campus you prefer or how do they select who goes to what campus?

I think once you are accepted you get to rank the campuses, they are first come first serve. At least that’s what they said at the interview

Hi guys! I just made an sdn account. I interviewed on 10/3 and was wondering is there still hope of an acceptance?

Is anyone able to explain the student ambassador section of the interview? With other schools I've interviewed at, there has been a set time where we can talk to current students and ask them questions, but they emphasized that component is not part of our interview evaluation. Is the Mercer ambassador meeting basically the same, but instead we are actually evaluated? Or is it just further interview questions from current students? I don't understand why they would factor that into our "interview score"

Yes it’s basically the same where you talk to them and ask them questions but they do evaluate you at the same time. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s part of your interview score but it definitely plays a role in your acceptance or rejection

Hmm interesting, thank you. I guess it's probably not a major component, just to see if you can talk to other students like a normal person lol

I got a positive letter postcard mailed to me by one of the ambassadors. Is that a good sign? Interviewed 10/3 but haven't heard back

If you scroll up in the thread, at least one poster mentioned receiving one; it seems like they may have been sent in response to “thank yous” after interviews.

In any instance, it definitely isn’t a bad sign 🙂

I need advice on how to maximize my chance of getting accepted after a deferral from RD😩 do I send an update letter now or later? I wanna go here so bad

I am in state and applied back in July with an LM of 71...is anyone in the same boat because im kind of confused why I haven't heard back by now!

Hey guys, so I've been accepted to a school that requires a deposit by December, but Mercer remains my number 1 choice. Do we feel like it's too soon to send a letter of intent, as the school I was accepted to requires moving my family across the country? I have already interviewed. And does anyone have any recommendations on how to do so?

Does the deposit specifically mean you are obliged to attend the school? Or just to hold a seat until you take further initiatives?

I'd wait until the end of next week to pay a deposit. I'm pretty sure another round of decisions will be sent Wednesday of next week, since it's the third Wednesday of the month

I am also accepted somewhere else but Mercer is my #1 choice. Can I send letter of intent now so they see it before next week when they send out admissions? I interviewed Mercer 10/3 and was hoping to get accepted last month.

I'm not sure how much impact a letter of intent would have right now. Some advice I've seen is send one if you're waitlisted, others say send one 1-2 months after interviewing if you're certain it's your top choice. I personally wouldn't quite yet because we're still pretty early in the application cycle—Mercer interviews until February, and many other schools into spring. But if you're certain you would attend Mercer even if you're accepted elsewhere later on, I don't think it would hurt if you want to articulate that early on through a letter of intent.

Appeal to school-specific thread: Mercer required PREview for the 2023-2024 cycle. It is still listed for Casper, so any past applicants who had to take Casper for admission, please complete the survey!

Complete the 2023 Situational Judgment Test Experience survey.

HPSA/SDN has the 2023 SJT Experience Survey available to anyone preparing for SJTs (especially Casper and PREview). If you completed the 2022 survey, you are welcome to go ahead and complete the survey again. This survey consists of multiple pages and will take up to 10 minutes. You can also place yourself on a waitlist for a study focusing more on school-run SJTs run through platforms like Kira Talent, to be released later in the year.

Your feedback matters!
We learned a lot about how applicants prepared for Casper and PREview last year, but the number of PREview schools has almost doubled this cycle! Over 20% of all AMCAS applicants will likely have taken PREview, and up to 90% of all medical school applicants will likely have taken Casper this cycle (according to Acuity Insights). This does not include applicants in non-medical professions who have had to take these assessments for admission to physician assistant, anesthesiology assistant, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, or physical therapy programs, where we see a trend that applicants with higher Casper results are preferred. Medical residency applicants are also being asked to complete Acuity Insights Assessments, and very little is known about how program directors use these data. Your responses are vital to get objective insights on how admissions committees value the results of these exams.

Your feedback matters!
We want to hear from as many people as possible, especially those attending or applying outside of medicine (MD/DO). This year saw an expansion of SJTs in admissions, and more information has been made available on preparing for these assessments. We want to stay current with these trends to guide future applicants and students facing these SJTs.

Many of our findings from the 2022 survey align with the NAAHP Testing Task Force report released last summer. This includes concerns about proctoring, consistency of scoring, and concern that applicants are paying for validity research. But we need more student voices to gain a louder voice to advocate for future health professional school applicants.

Your feedback has helped HPSA develop a workshop focused on preparing for SJTs like Casper and PREview. This workshop is part of our Becoming a Student Doctor preparation course, and we have already had some positive results among those who have participated in our mock interview workshops. An updated workshop will be presented at the UC Davis Prehealth Conference on October 14, and we welcome opportunities to present the full-length SJT workshop to your campus!

Fill out this survey and help future applicants become physicians in their chosen profession!

So how we feeling about potential decisions tomorrow? I'm nervously waiting here... I just really want to hear back already lol

Same haha. When did you interview?
10/31, so it was fun seeing the admissions staff in their costumes. That was relatively recent, but I think they consider that interview date for tomorrow's decisions based on last year's thread. How about you?
