Got a text this afternoon confirming my interest post-interview. Interactive 1/31 with no decision yet...unsure what this means

Interactive 3/13. I know the turnaround has been 8-10 weeks. I have another acceptance that I need to respond to you by April 28. Has anyone emailed them for any updates? I didn’t know if it was appropriate to mention that I have the deadline but the last thing I wanna do is force a decision

My interactive was 3/6 and on 4/14 I sent an update to admissions saying I have reached the point in my admissions cycle where I need to make my final decision on where I will be attending school in the fall and admissions had told my group during the interactive to reach out if we had not heard back on a decision depending on one's circumstances. They responded 2 days later and said my file is still with the admissions committee for the final decision and they will pass along my email so the admissions committee is aware of my continued interest and timeline.

Hmm. Have they gotten back to you?

Do I email my letter of intent to admissions directly or is there a way for me to upload it onto the portal?

How late DCOM will conduct interviews? In other words when the interviews will end? Appreciate a reply.

I received an interview invite from them last July...pretty much can hear from them up until first day of classes/orientation

I knew people who were offered an interview and accepted in July as well, you still have time! Seems like they go right up to the start date as they fill spots/have openings from people who withdraw late

what does a daily/weekly schedule look like first and second year
First year you have your labs scheduled in the morning and then four 50 minute lectures noon-5 with 10 minute breaks in between.

Second year is basically the same but flipped so lectures are 8am-noon and then your various labs are spaced throughout the week in the afternoon. I personally like the schedule of second year more.

Your daily schedule highly depends on what you decide to do as far as lectures being in person, live on zoom, or recorded and watched later. If you're the type of person that likes to go in person, thats your schedule. If you're the type to watch the lecture later on double speed, that lends itself to being more customizable on what you do when. I will say the number of in-person "lecture goers" has dwindled as we've gone through these last two years, but I’m sure recent board prep has a little to do with that as well 🙂

You just have to keep up with what's required in person. Some things like ethics lectures and labs are required in person, other lectures are required attendance in person or zoom, and then regular lectures you can watch whenever and however you want.

Today marks 9 weeks since the second part of the interview experience where they stated in person *and* followed up with email that a decision would take 4-6 weeks. Still no decision. Every other school I’ve gotten to the point of interviews with has been much more transparent, made me feel wanted, and respected my time more. Not going to avoid DMU if I do get in due to this but definitely don’t feel like my time, effort, or application is respected in the slightest. /rant

Well, couldn't agree more. It's been 15 weeks since I had the interactive day, and I still have not heard anything back.

OOS A!!!!! Beyond thrilled as this is my first A this cycle as a reapplicant! For those accepted, did your portal update immediately, or did it take some time, as I currently have no updates on my portal and no option to pay the deposit?

Congrats all! Were you guys on the alternate list or did they just send the A?

For those who completed the interactive session, did your portal continue to say completed or did it say under review or anything?

It took 3 months for me to hear anything back, but was an instant A? I think after getting your interview, you're essentially waitlisted.

OOS A today! Interactive 1/31, sent a letter of intent literally just yesterday morning! I can't believe it

Congrats! Did your portal update yet? Got my acceptance text and email yesterday morning but still not seeing updates on the portal.

Yes I emailed them and they told me it usually takes a day or two, now its fully showing up on my portal. See you at DMU!!

Yes, it was an instant A, I was never informed that I was on the waitlist, but I feel like they probably put me on a list

In state A just now!!!!! Had campus visit 3/7. Sent them an update and follow up today and they told me a final decision will be sent soon, was not expecting it same day!!!!

Does DMU have any resources for partners/family of current medical students? I know some schools will try to set something up for spouses and such to find community. It looks like there used to be "significant other support" but I can't see anything online about that beyond 2015.

This is gonna sound so dumb but I’m struggling to figure out how to withdraw my A. Maybe if I was on a laptop it would be easier to locate the button, but does anyone know how I can withdraw, aside from just emailing them or passing the deadline to commit? Sorry if the answer is really obvious 🫠

I believe you have to e-mail

Any current students have any info on the research done at DMU and availability to students?

Does anybody know if Alternate List means the same thing as Waitlist for DMU? Or are they two different designations?

Hi! I'm currently doing research at an external site other than DMU, however I would say research at DMU is very much available. A vast majority of my peers and friends are doing research with a staff member during spring semester and in the summer (also they're paid at 17 dollars per hour, or somewhere near that number).

A large number of professors here are doing research, and are very open to emails and inquiries about room in their labs/works. There's a variety of wet/dry lab, some public health research, etc. The DMU website has a lot of info on professors and current research they are doing, and it's highly recommended to visit their offices or email them about it!

Usually November of your first year is peak season where people are sending emails out and visiting professors for research in Spring/Summer for credit/job.

Clubs often host events where you can connect with other physicians or researchers outside of DMU as well, if you're interested in that.

How did you go about finding research at an off-campus site? Do DMU students participate in research with the residency programs at DSM hospitals such as BroadLawns?

What are the chances of getting off the waitlist if we are in the second quartile of the waitlist? I know DMU has a good amount of movement in the waitlist but IDK if my chance will come or not. Thank you!

> How did you go about finding research at an off-campus site?

Context: I'm not from the Iowa Area.

My opportunity that I mentioned earlier was from asking around previous work places, and ended up getting into contact with a physician, who took me onto the team. A few other peers I know have also resorted to using old worksites (CDC, NIH) for research.

However, before I got this position, I applied to multiple summer internship/programs that DMU emails us in our school emails about, and also some searching on my own via reddit/google. Roughly about 5-6 programs was sent to us in email, if I recall (but I am pretty sure some opportunities went unnoticed) some being in-person sites and some being virtual if you want to go home or stay on campus for summer break. I know of one person who is going to an external internship in another state via independent application. There might be a few more, but I can't guarantee that.

> Do DMU Students participate in research w/ residency programs at DSM Hospitals?

Yes, though I'm not sure if this is the answer you're hoping for. I know of two people who are doing research with Broadlawns physicians, I believe one of them was connected via one of the professors on campus. However, they're not doing wet lab, more of an AI/data collection of clinical work the physicians are doing there (dry lab).

Good news: a good number of alumni are at Broadlawns, and based off my conversations with professors, they seem open to DMU students wanting to get on their research teams with them at the hospital (I never talked to anyone there personally, so take this with a grain of salt).

Plus, there's an alumni service where you can go ask the university to connect you to a physician in a field of your interest, and possibly then you can communicate/make connections/understand the field of interest better.

I would say it requires like 70/30 to 60/40 ratio (depending on the research you want, and if its super competitive field you're into) of your efforts and the opportunities available, if that makes sense.

Sorry there wasn't much substance. I hope this helps you make a solid decision for your future!

Not sure what quartile means, but it could be the end of the year exhaustion speaking.

I know people who got off the waitlist with acceptances even past Mid-June. Stay strong.
