Please feel free to tag a pre-medical moderator once the secondary prompt has been posted.

Good luck to everyone applying!

OOS Secondary Recieved 6/3/2024

Questions:
1. (Required) Please write and ATTACH the short essay addressing ONE of the following questions: Medical school requires a huge commitment in time and energy. How have you prepared for this commitment? OR If you are a re-applicant please tell us what you have done to strengthen your application.
2. (Optional) Is there anything you want the admissions committee to know that you haven’t explained on your AACOMAS application?

You attach your responses as a document, and there is no word limit indicated for either prompt.

I'm a current OMS-IV, am willing to answer any questions about the program via DMs. Good luck on your applications everyone!
What would you suggest as a guideline for the length of these responses since there is no limit?

Oh no lol! Not an interview (I wish!!), just a secondary (II)! 🙂
Haha, I think this confusion happens often! Just a heads up, on SDN "II" means "interview invite" (double "I"s, one stands for interview, the other invite). When talking about getting a secondary, people usually just say "secondary received".

OMG! 🤣🤣 Sorry!! This is my first application cycle I had no idea! I will make a note, thank you so much!

I'd recommend a couple paragraphs. Just enough to answer the question and explain your circumstances. You've already written a longer form piece about yourself in your personal statement. The people reading these don't want to read a novel from every applicant.

I wonder when they'll begin sending out IIs for this school, looks like they're already ahead of schedule compared to last cycle

secondary received June 27th - completed July 2nd - in state app - and they said interviews sept-april

Hi. I have a question. Is it possible to select Knoxville, TN, or is the application for both branches? Thanks

has anyone gotten a "application complete" or "secondary received" email?

No, I called a few minutes ago to ask about when secondaries are sent out and all of the operators were busy.

I sent my secondary on 6/28 and got the "complete" email on 7/2. It says "under review" on the portal.

For the secondary, what was the word count for anyone that has submitted the essay? It says short, but it doesn't provide a number figure.

Mine was 941 words so I am guessing the max was 1000 as I tend to write close to the max for everything

I am a current OMS-I (just started this week) so I can't answer many questions about the school. But I was accepted very early in the cycle last year, so I'm happy to answer questions about the application/interview process. I also was accepted or waitlisted at 7 schools despite an abysmally low MCAT and a lower second take, so if you're in a similar situation, hang tight and feel free to reach out!

Do you mind sharing your stats and MCAT score?

Sure!

498-496 MCAT (lower second take). 3.75 GPA. I am a very non-traditional student (older, single parent, career changer with 10 years in management/leadership across 4 states and over 100 employees).

Wow, our stats are very similar! I got a 497, I have a 3.73 cGPA, and a sGPA of 3.72. It's reassuring to see my MCAT may not be my downfall.(fingers crossed.)

Did anyone submit the second optional essay on the secondary application? I don't want to regurgitate the same information I already have on my primary, but I also don't know if this is supposed to be a chance to highlight things on my application.

It is not a chance to highlight anything already on your application. It’s more appropriate for mentioning anything that could’ve impacted your career progress thus far that hasn’t been highlighted in your application

Don’t restate anything already on your primary, more likely to annoy the reader than anything which can hurt your chances

Gotcha, thank you

Just got an email that my file is complete, and I submitted my secondary, with payment, on 6/21. Nothing was missing from my app. Good grief! That took a long time!

I submitted with payment on 6/5 and still haven't gotten an email lol

On my portal, it says 100% complete and then says "Congratulations! Your application is under review." I haven't received any emails about my application after submitting. I submitted on 6/11.

Yes, I also got one. Looks like first batch of IIs went out second week of August last year

For those of you who have completed the secondary, how long was your essay? I know it says "attach a short essay" but how long did you guys make yours?

941 words. Its about 1.5 pages which is roughly the same length as my PS. I read that that 1-1.5 pages is the typical range for one prompt essays with no other questions. I did the same for RVU and CMU
