Everyone I know keeps telling me there’s no way any school is still sending out As this late and that I should expect an R but then when I called they said they’re still sending them out and if you haven’t received an R, that’s a good sign. But I’m like is it? They could really just wait till the 30th to send the Rs out 😭
I totally feel your stress. I've been in the same boat since Nov. I feel like the best we can do for our sanity is to not overanalyze these things since only time will tell and no one has these answers

tbh tho I take some relief in knowing that they told you A's are still coming out (though I won't hold my breath and have been getting my back up plans in line assuming an R is coming). when did you call them?

I genuinely don't understand the reason of stringing along applicants who interviewed in August/September all the way until April. If there are so few acceptances and waitlists going out from here on out I would assume that my application has likely already been decided on. I understand they have thousands of applicants to sort through but it really doesn't feel good to not have a decision when I interviewed on 9/24/24, especially since this was my top choice.
The fact that most of us on here have survived 3 waves of rejection too!! Like give us our A/WL or tell me its a no so I can move on with my life and actually do something about it instead of waiting. Anyone else finding it hard to decide what to do next ? It's difficult when I'm still holding on to the possibility of getting in so late in the cycle

True I called them this morning but not sure if there’s outright As left or they meant WLs that could possibly turn into As

Oh it’s been three waves? I didn’t know that. Yes I’m really struggling because I’m studying for the MCAT rn but am so unmotivated and tired 😭 but definitely prepping to reapply

Well Im just going off what is reported on medical track cycle because Im so neurotic at this point lol

I said i remember they had mentioned after my interview we’d hear back most likely by end of March so since today is the last day of March, if he knew if there were still As to be given out. He said yes and they’ve given out Rs so if ur app isn’t updated, you’re still in the running/it’s a good sign (idk abt that anymore tbh) and that they’re gonna notify everyone by April 30th but there still As and WLs to be given out.

Can any applicants from last cycle say if they think there’s actually still As and WLs to be given out or nah?

lol but what if you received an email rejection weeks ago but your portal still says under review?? oh well I'll be accepting the "R" but I'll be pleasantly surprised with anything else. The disorganization is killin me

Oh wow really? I’ve heard some people saying their portal hasn’t updated since they received a rejection. Do you mind me asking if you were IS or OOS and when you interviewed?

IS! Interviewed early Feb this year. This is my second time applying- applied last cycle and was interviewed first week of Sept and was rejected April 28th.

Do you think it’s most likely just Rs left to give out then?
No idea! As tempting as it is, I can't spend too much energy trying to decipher umass admissions at this point bc a) it's out of my control and b) I'd drive myself crazy. I'm distracting myself by applying to jobs but everyone deals with stuff differently so do whatever works for you. Either way take care of yourself future doc <3

Those are words of wisdom.

Food!

Probably gonna give hints on where I live but
1. Greater Boston area has amazing French patisseries so I’ll prob get a croissant
2. Also will get a really good sandwich from a grocery store in Revere
3. Worcester has really delicious African food. I’d also go to my favorite place there for a meal.
i didn't know about the African food scene-something to look forward to!

I wish someone could straight up tell me from this point onwards it’s this many spots left not the 4/30 deadline 😭

Anyone hear anything re: financial aid? I had heard they'd announce early March but alas.

I honestly don't know lol its so late in the cycle, so hard to believe they're handing out A/WL still
fr i don't think they are but then for them to say on the phone when i called a couple days ago that they were is cruel 😢 i think there still could be lots of WLs left to give but As probably not

lol true i guess they could still be sent out? u think it's just Rs left to be sent out slowly lol or i guess WLs too maybe?

Still plenty of time to hear back. However, this is medical school we are talking about. Most people don't get in. Even most people that interview don't get in. Hopefully you got some more lines in the water because this is more like tuna fishing than bass fishing.

For my accepted folks: the financial aid portal now has the tab "financial aid offer" in it. However, mine doesn't show any information about scholarships/institutional aid, just has the COA amounts listed. Is everybody in the same boat or do people have scholarship/aid offers in their portal?

Mine also included a financial aid offer in the portal, which only consisted of federal unsubsidized loans.

Mine is the same - just the estimates but no actual offers.

I just received an email regarding my financial aid offer; however, it just gives information about the federal direct unsubsidized loans, nothing about need-based or merit-based aid. So either they gave me nothing and want me to pay full COA (absolutely not they can screw off), or they just haven't sent out those awards. I emailed them to clarify

i just got my financial aid offer. totally confused bc im in-state and got essentially 0 aid except federal loans (doesn't even cover the full COA they expect from me). Does UMass give institutional aid/merit aid?

The federal direct unsubsidized loans max out at 47k, the rest you have to get through the GradPLUS loans. You can get full COA covered by federal loans completely, so that I wouldn't worry about. However, not receiving any institutional aid is some horse crap

I interviewed on the same date did you hear back yet?

I interviewed that day and haven’t heard anything yet.

thanks for this info! and yes def going to reach out to them about receiving no institutional aid 😒

For everyone talking about loans- I am
OOS and emailed re: financial aid. I had gotten the financial aid email telling me that I will receive federal unsubsidized loans, but no other aid. I emailed asking if there were any other opportunities for aid, or if they match aid offers from other schools. I was told that UMass does not offer aid matches and to apply for GRADPLUS loans this summer.
