Has anyone gotten a confirmation email that their secondary is completed after submitting? Worried it didn't actually submit because I kept getting logged out... :)

Has anyone received an error message / payment declined when they tried to submit their application fee? (I double checked all the info is correct and I have enough $) Trying to figure out if its an error on my card/bank end or if its an issue with OHSU payment service
did you figure it out? encountering the same issue

Also having the same issue
No I never heard back from OHSU. Idk about you guys but I’m on the east coast w/ citizens bank credit and debit so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. I’m not sure if my bank thought it was “fraud” trying to submit a payment to Oregon. I ended up using a friend’s discover credit card which worked. So my advice would be to try a credit card from a different bank

This school is pretty mission based, I would read up on if you really fit with their mission, otherwise a waste of $120

Ah I see, I already submitted secondaries for like 30 schools with no II yet so I'm getting pretty paranoid haha

Yeah you need to have a connection to Oregon (graduated hs, current resident etc). I would suggest applying to another school unless you have some type of connection.

How long has the turnaround been for people so far after submitting secondary?

Try using a different web browser. I was running into this issue in Safari. I tried different CCs, entering the info directly and through the Click Pay feature. I kept getting errors. Once I tried it in Chrome, payment was successfully submitted.

Good luck!

Does anyone know how many IIs they have sent out? Looks like last year there was a current student in the thread who was really helpful in informing applicants about interview and offer updates. Praying for someone like that this year too:giggle:

During my interviews last year i want to say there was about 30 people at the orientation, I interviewed in early September. If they’re only at the first round, I’d say that’s probably the amount. Rough estimate, could be totally off

Hi. Is it normal to only receive a payment receipt after submitting the Secondary application to OHSU? I’ve submitted mine 3 weeks ago but have only received payment receipt. I did not get an email acknowledging receipt of my secondary application. Is this normal for OHSU?

This school slipped through the cracks for me but my stats are right on target and I think I could be a good fit. I am OOS. Is it worth applying here at this point? I know they favor IS. Thanks!

OHSU really favors IS and OOS people with ties to Oregon. If you don’t have any ties, your chances are super slim. If you have the funds and are confident in your scores/writing, worth lobbing it up there. But tbh might be worth saving the $120 if you’re not sure about your app

On their admissions page they say:
"The MD program gives strong preference to:
  • Oregon residents.
  • Nonresidents with Oregon Heritage.
  • Nonresidents with outstanding achievements in academics and significant experiences in health care, leadership, extracurricular activities and/or community service.
  • Applicants with a demonstrated ability to overcome adversity and/or applicants who have personally experienced inequities within the healthcare system.
  • Students applying to OHSU’s dual degree programs such as the MD/PhD and MD/MPH
  • Applicants who are WICHE-certified in allopathic medicine."
If you fit in any of these categories might as well give it a shot.

Def apply if you fit the mission but be aware that of the 6000 apps, 420 are Oregon residents and 120 of the 150 spots go to them. It’s like apying to a Texas school with no ties

IS II received, reapplicant. Submitted week of 8/12. Unsure if there is another 'pre-II' timed question this year again - did anyone receive one?

Where do you see that? I'm looking at the portal and don't see anything about a timed question. Also didn't see anything in the II email.
I filled it out the day I got my II, it was towards the bottom of the portal right after the MMI confidentiality agreement. I don’t see it in my portal anymore either though, but it gave me like 10 mins to answer a question and said it was due the Sunday before my interview date. I dont know what happened to it

Yeah, I don't see it but I think some people were having the same issue last year if I remember correctly.

This is super helpful thank you :) I think I'll save myself from writing another secondary

Hi I am new here can someone explain what II means? Does that mean getting a secondary or interview invite?

interview invite :)
thank you! also quick question did people get confirmation emails when they submitted the secondary? It shows as submitted on the portal but I did not get a payment receipt or a confirmation email the way I've gotten with some other schools

nope, nothing for me right after

Hi! So for the secondary app, they have a portion where they ask about your LOR info but it only gives me one box and I have multiple individual letters, should I list them all out or just one? (it says "primary contact information" which is throwing me off)

You should be able to enter one and then additional ones after. Just add each rec letter as its own input with source "AMCAS Letters Service".

Same! I was going to do it if the questions were easy but these one are so specific and you have to re-summarize all your AMCAS activities. But also living in Portland would be amazing...
Unfortunately you and everyone else tends to think so, and admission knows this

Hi! Does anyone know if OHSU looks at reapplicants differently? Any disadvantage? I am a reapplicant and I got the interview invite a few days ago. Will the interviewer/adcoms know that I was interviewed last year too and will that affect their decision? Thanks!

Also, I didn't see the timed typed question on my portal this year. Someone mentioned it before in this thread, was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

Did you interview at OHSU last year?

Your interviewer and the adcom will know that you interviewed last year, and they'll know if you sought feedback. You aren't at an advantage or a disadvantage, but you should endeavor to show that you have grown as a person and as an applicant, and that you have acted meaningfully on whatever feedback they gave you. If you fail to show meaningful growth, that will negatively impact their decision.

Hi! I did, and I did request feedback. However it was already in March/April when I got my final decision so it was too late for me to find a job that exactly fits what they suggested. I did switch to a job that was better than the previous one and I wrote about that in my applications. I just remembered that last cycle in the orientation the Dean said that OHSU will use a higher standard for reapplicants so, panicking right now…

Honestly, most reapplicants need to take a full extra year to make real changes to their application. This is especially true for those who interviewed and were rejected rather than waitlisted.

It's too late now, so you've got to think about your interview last year and consider what you can improve on. Think about how you are going to present yourself this time. How have the changes you have made actually made you a better candidate? What growth have you had since your first app?

If you get rejected this time, give yourself a solid year before you apply again and consider what the committee might be asking you to develop in the meantime. If they asked you to change jobs, they're probably hoping that you'll branch out, challenge yourself, and see more of real medicine.
