Hi I am a first gen applicant so sorry if this is a dumb question but does WSU view applications in the order they are submitted? So like someone who submitted a secondary in July will hear back about interviews before an August submission or it is random?

Same girl, I don’t think anyone truly knows what order they go in! I think a lot of us are just guessing that it’s somewhat in order maybe??

That’s the general rule of thumb for all medical schools. They review in the order they are received and send them out roughly in the same context. You’ll never truly know if a medical school deviates from this trend, but nonetheless you should be applying to schools as early as possible.

I personally submitted applications as soon as I received secondaries and have received 6 interviews so far, so I’d say that advice holds fairly well.

Edit: I guess the exception to this is when a school will want to interview someone who submitted a later application than someone who submitted earlier purely because the later applicant is a better fit for the school. Again, it’s hard to know when this happens. Given the fact most schools will interview less than 1k applicants, yet receive 4k+ applicants it’s expected some will just not make the cut. It’s too early in the cycle for this to be a concern however, so if you’re reading this and worrying, don’t! You’re doing just fine :)

That’s so impressive, congrats! Do you mind if I DM you?

Of course! Always glad to help others where I can.

Of course, I will say that I’m just an applicant like you, so I’ll give the best advice I can whether that be coming from my experience or from the wealth of info that I’ve been told by others

thank does help! Is there a reason it is specifically Wednesday?
theres actually a pretty good reason for it, by waiting until wednesday they can annoy the applicant a couple days longer

Of those who got an II is your application rural focused at all? Did you have lower stats than the typical med school? (I’ve seen wasu has lower average mcat and gpa than UW)

I got an II and had an application that was very rural centric (rural applicant).

Stats don’t matter because this school blinds the MCAT and GPA. ESFCOM is one of the few MD schools that’s truly holistic in that they look beyond the stats and want to create a diverse class of students that have experiences that will enable to succeed as future physicians in WA. MCAT and GPA are non-factors in the admission committees decision making process

I will say my LM is less than 70, and got an II here and UW. I have two friends with LMs greater than 78 get pre-II Rs to UW and WSU. For WSU stats are non-factors, and for UW stats do matter but I think there’s more leeway based on their Admitted stats being comparatively lower than schools of similar caliber.

I have no rural healthcare experience but a lot of hours volunteering and working with underserved populations in Seattle. Stats don't matter to WSU. From what I've heard, they do stat blinded admissions after you submit you application and are above a certain threshold outlined on MSAR.

LM 72 and got both IIs at UW and WSU.

Does anyone what their interview format is? I tried to look online but I can't find it like it is MMI, a single interview, panel etc?

How long does it take to be under review after secondary submission?

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure you could be "under review" for months, because the interview cycle for WSU goes till February so unless you get put on hold or rejected before getting an interview your portal will say your application is "under review"

I meant as in from when the portal says "Application complete" to "under review"

Just received the post-interview status update. Interviewed on 8/30. Sounds like they’ll start making offers to eligible applicants early November and will start dipping into the waitlist in April.
