Campbell University (CUSOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

So I visited CUSOM several days ago...I was seriously impressed. Not only is all of the faculty very welcoming and kind (and professional!) but they also took the time out of their busy days to sit down with me and discuss a bunch of different things about the school and the surrounding area. It's going to be hard to beat this school.

The facilities are amazing and cutting-edge. So excited to apply here! Has anyone got the secondary yet? They should be on their way within the next week or so.

If you loved your tour, then I can promise you'll love the interview. I've not received the secondary yet, but I'm completing it as soon as I get it.

Have you had an interview here in the past? If so, and if you weren't accepted, what do you think was the biggest challenge? How many other students were with you on interview day? What was it like? How intense was it in a scale from 1-10 (1 being laid back and 10 being ultra intense grilling questions)?They told me it was 3 (sometimes 2) back to back interviews with different faculty, with the third being conducted by the head of admissions.

I mean, we'll see if I even get invited for an interview, there's always a lot of people putting doubt in my head on SDN lol, so I'm not jumping the gun by any means.

It's 12 interviewees total, so 11 plus you. Interview day is very relaxed, or at was for me. As for a scale of 1-10, I think a 2 or 3 would be correct. I'm sure it varies though on who is interviewing you. And it is 3 30 minute back to back interviews. And there are a number of people.who could be interviewing you. The dean, Dr Kauffman, was one of the people interviewing the day I did.

I interviewed April 14th. I can definitely confirm that the interview itself is very laidback, conversational even. Not once did I feel like I was being grilled, but there were some thought provoking questions. I feel that my biggest problem was that I applied late (literally the last day) and interviewed late (again, literally the last day). I tend to to assume that my rejections are because I didn't interview well, but it is hard to say since I connected very well with my interviewers. I did have some trouble relating my leadership experiences which most likely did not help. I would probably say there maybe 10(or more) people with me.

The interview day started off extremely early at 7:30. After the introduction, we were split up into two groups. One group went off to interview and the other group (me) stayed for the financial aid presentation. After the first group finished, I went on to be interviewed by Dr. Newton, Dr. Langaker, and Dr. Marlowe. After that we had lunch with the students, toured the school and that was that.

I would definitely agree with Luvshok, 2-3. However, since there a lot faculty that could be interviewing you, there is a good chance that your experiences will be different. For example, I was talking to someone who had interviewed before me, and he told me that one of his interviewers pulled out a sample MCAT passage and told him to go through it! I assumed that perhaps his MCAT was not as strong as it could have been, but it could have also been the interviewer wanting to see how he dealt with stress.

My stats at the time were a 3.6 science and overall gpa with 27 (8, 9, 10) MCAT. My GPA has improved a teeny tiny bit (3.61 sGPA and 3.64 overall) since then.

Hope you got your apps in early this year, those are decent stats that should net good results

I didn't send in the secondary until January 6th, my payment didn't go through the first time and I somehow missed it. I was in school during that time and you just get so many emails it's easy to lose track. End of February sometime they asked me to interview. Stats: 3.8-3.9 sci/cum GPA 23-25 MCAT. Decided not to re-take MCAT after receiving II's and my first acceptance.

Oh, that's really quick! And I've heard that you get your acceptance/rejection notice within a week of interviewing.
 
If our LOR's on AACOMAS, how do we get them sent to the schools? Does AACOMAS send them automatically? In this case automatically to CUSOM??

From my understanding any letters uploaded to AACOMAS are bundled with your primary application to the schools you designate the primary to.
 
Does this school screen before sending out secondarys?
 
Got a "primary received" email this morning. It also said that they will be reviewing applications during the next two weeks and will update us afterwards.
 
I got a secondary invitation from them a few minutes after receiving the primary received email.

First rejection of the cycle. They do screen, I didn't meet their cumulative GPA cutoff.
 
I received the primary received email, but no secondary.
I didn't receive an email saying I was screened out, either...

Is this happening to anyone else?

I'm in the same boat. Perhaps they didn't receive the MCAT scores yet?

If it reads like last cycle's they should have mentioned that they will be "reviewing your credentials over the next one-two weeks". It's likely the same deal for you. It took 6 days from receiving that email to be sent a secondary. I wouldn't worry until some time has passed.
 
For those who received a secondary so far, for the LOR section, they ask us to fill out the contact info for their 2 required LORs (1 from physician and 1 from pre-med committee or science prof). I'm a bit confused since I'm using AACOMAS to send them to all the schools so in that case, I'm thinking I should leave this section blank?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but did anybody else have the same problem?

Guys, why are you guys wasting your money?
It's pretty clear on their website that you shouldn't apply with GPA below 3.2.

And guys, relax. You will get your secondaries soon enough. Be glad you haven't got them yet and spend those time on prewriting or writing other secondaries.
Take a breath. It's going to be a long process.

You're probably right, I applied bc I live in NC and I want to be a primary care doctor in NC, and I believe in CUSOM's mission. Oh well, I'm praying for the best.
 
I just got screened out with a 28 MCAT and 3.5/3.6 cGPS/sGPA. Hopefully this is a mistake.

Contact the admissions office if you feel it's a mistake. Sometimes this go over looked, or infomation does not arrive correctly. The people in the admissions office are very friendly and very helpful.

Yeah I just called them and they are looking into it for me, but they say it's a mistake. They were very nice and helpful!
