Anybody been golfing on the nearby Keith Hills course?

Quick question, CUSOM gets back to their interviewees pretty darn fast (within the week of interview), does anyone know how long I get to confirm my seat at the college? It's obviously very early in the interview session and while CUSOM is definitely one of my top choices, I just want to get a good idea of how long I will get before I need to confirm and send in my deposit, etc.

Thanks!

Just got an II! I had submitted my secondary & payment on 7/16. I JUST got the email saying my file was complete and ready for review today, and then got the II literally 1 minute later. I'm really excited!!

On the "tentative schedule" there are 3 seperate slots labeled interview. Just figured it was mmi.

No, as far as I know it's because you'll interview with three different faculty members. That's the way it was last year, and I haven't heard anything about MMI this year.

You can check the CIB book, it should say when deposits are due on each school's separate page. I think any interviews before Nov. 15th have until that date if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that. I'd get info direct from the source.

Oh okay, must've missed that in the cib. Thanks!

How does this schools board scores rank up against other schools?

flew into RDU and drove to the campus today. It is essentially a brand new building prompt up in a rural but developing area. See you guys monday.
Did your google maps app take you directly where you needed to go? Was it very hard to find from the RDU airport?

I have. It's a beautiful course and has a great practice area. Driving range is cheap ($5 for large bucket), good bunkers and practice greens. Green fees are pretty affordable, esp. through the week. Pro shop is kinda minimal, but staff is great. I recommend it.

What an amazing experience! CUSOM exceed my expectations on every level. Interview day was fantastic. I just hope the interviewers feel the same about me! I would love to go to this school. They really have it all together. Wow.

That's awesome. How was the actual interview part of it?(format, stress level, etc) you will find out your fate Friday right?

The entire interview process was amazing. I went in with high expectations because the recruiter really had me intrigued with the program. Needless to say, the school surpassed my expectations. Which is saying something. It wasn't like a movie that everybody says is great, then you get there and it's eh. This school is like the movie that everybody says is great, then you go...and you go four more times because it was really that good.

The format was 3 30min interviews with faculty plus a tour and overview of the program. The professors I interviewed with were very professional and they knew my application well. With respect to the stress levels, I lost count of how many times they told us to just relax. It was really relaxed. Going with the osteopathic mindset, I feel that the interview process was very holistic. It felt like they just wanted to get to know me a little more. No curve balls. Overall, it was a great experience. I guess we'll find out this coming Friday how well it really went haha.

I agree with the above. I had my interview today and was blown away by the friendliness of the staff, faculty, and students. The facilities are top notch and I walked away extremely impressed by the program. The interview day was low stress and very informative. If you are concerned about the rural location, I live in the area and can attest to the low cost of living, minimal crime rate, and quality of life here. It wasn't quite as "conversational" as I had imagined based off research here on SDN, but there were no real off the wall questions either. For those with II's, walk in prepared to answer the big questions... why do you want to be a doctor, why osteopathic medicine, and why CUSOM? The rest was clarifying parts of my application. I recommend you think of some questions to ask the faculty at the end of your interview. The presentation is very complete, but the program is different from other schools in some ways. You are interviewing them as well. Based off previous year's posts here and information presented today, I believe the decision is made quickly - i.e. by Friday following the interview. This is a great benefit over the allopathic schools. There are 3 x 30min interviews with faculty that come in rapid succession. There's not much breathing room in between, but still - breath. Their stock is very high in my mind following the interview. I wish everyone the best of luck this season!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like a great place to be for school.

Do any of the interviewers ask you the same questions? You don't have to answer 'why DO?' 3 times do you?

did you give basically the same response every time verbatim?
Yup, verbatim. The only difference was my increasing confidence in my responses as I went from interviewer to interviewer. That's why they have 3 different interviews scheduled back to back, so you can essentially redeem yourself if you need to.

are you sure its not to see if you were just giving memorized answers? haha

How many canidates were in your interview group?

I don't think so. When they ask you 'Why DO?' you tell them the reasons you want to be a DO. When someone else asks you again, what else will you say? Also, what do you mean by memorized answers? Everyone basically has a response to those big questions 'memorized' in the sense that they know what they want to discuss. There is a big difference between memorizing answers and having your answers sound scripted.

If for example you try to save one reason for each interviewer, your answers and reasons for wanting to be a DO will seem insufficient. I specifically asked the director of admissions if we would have repeat questions and she said that we have multiple interviews because they know we will be nervous on the first one.

I did. 8 interviewees
Thanks for all the insight so far. Just curious...did you bring anything there when you went for the interview? I find it a little weird to walk in empty handed but I've never done this before so I don't know.

damn...they cant accept all or even 50% of them..slim picking

What do you mean? Most of the people that get interviewed in the first available dates have a pretty good shot at being accepted (at least looking at previous years...).

Anyone still waiting on a secondary from these guys? I received an email last week saying they received my application and will review within 2 weeks. I was verified about a month ago.

I'm still waiting, but I only added them over the weekend, so not really in the same boat as you

I interviewed on Monday as well. I think they'll accept whoever they think is a good fit for the school until the class is full. I don't think it's an idea where "okay, we're gonna take the top 2 or 3 from each interview cohort". That'd be weird and inefficient.

16 interviews a week for the next 6 months or so is a LOT of people to interview and way above the # of seats. Even if they accept 2.5 the # of actual seats.

Unless they are less picky early on.

That would be 384 people interviewing over the course of 6 months. CUSOM's class size is 150 students. So, if they accepted all 384 students over a period of 6 months, then that would put the acceptance rate around 40%. From what I've read, med schools generally hand out approximately double the amount of acceptances because not everyone who is accepted is going to attend. So just to play it safe, lets say that CUSOM only hands out an additional 100 acceptances, putting the total acceptances at 250. That would put the acceptance rate at 65%

If you figure that probably 6 out of every 8 people who attend an interview get accepted, then over the course of 6 months, 144 students would get accepted.

I don't know if their interview groups get bigger as the cycle progresses (12 or more students) because that would significantly impact these numbers, but as of now, I think the odds are pretty good of interview vs. acceptance.
