You know what would be really super duper helpful to all the people you are asking to take the time and give you advice?

Listing your personal pros and cons for each school...

I know this question has been posed before but my circumstances may be different.

I have been fortunate to be accepted to case, osu, and u. cinci for med school. Where to go is now the question. Cost isn't a major factor so finances aside, what would be the better option? I am very into research and am interested to specialize in either ent or ophtho (I know it's early, but still).

Background info: family is in columbus

Edit: Please tell me why as well!!

pros for osu: close to home, cheaper, less in-class time
cons for osu: internal ranking, not reputed in ophtho

pros for cincy: cheap, seemed more collaborative
cons: far from home

pros for case: pass/fail, research-oriented, highly reputed ent/ophtho programs
cons: cost, lots of in-class time due to IQ

Thanks!

FWIW, the ENT program at Ohio State is incredibly strong, better than Case, IMO. I'd also pick a college town over the trash fire that is Cleveland.

I wouldn't worry about speciality "reputation." Your ability to match into competitive residencies is largely determined by your interests and scores, not so much from the school you go to.

Seems like these schools are a close tie for you. You should choose the school where you really felt like you got well there. If one school jumped out you then that may be your best bet. If being close to home is super important, choose OSU.

Thanks for the input. I realize that interest and scores are what matter. However, my thinking is that ophtho research opportunities might be more limited at osu. What do you think?

I am in the same predicament!

OSU vs. Cincy.... I am an osu undergrad so I am a huge osu fan (sports, school, etc). my family is located equal distance to both schools..... but my boyfriend of two years is a M2 at Cincy... I love OSU for the sense of pride/innovation and location.. cincy med school building is so much nicer that osucom buildings in my option... but OSU hospitals are nicer lol

I left cincy with a good feeling and i felt like the dean at UC was like a mom figure, she was so nice!.....I left OSU interview unsure of how i felt about the day tbh. I was super impressed by the curriculum and opportunities, but i didnt like that we didnt get to interact much with the OSUCOM students. can anyone comment on the student body at osu? am i overhyping the "osu pride"?

I guess i would say i would prefer to live in cbus and osu is ranked slightly higher.. but i worry about a sense of competition at OSU, I didnt get that vibe from interview day just something i have sorta heard...

any thoughts would be helpful!!

I agree with the sense of collaboration at UC.

More realistically, it's determined by your LORs. Do not underestimate the power of having a strong, well-known department behind you.

Thanks for the input. I suppose Case would be the better choice in that respect?

I don't know anything about ophtho, but I know OSU's ENT department is quite impressive.

I'm just saying, all things being relatively equal, you should certainly take into account the reputation/presence of specialties you're interested in when choosing schools.

Anyone know which school cincy or Osu would be better for obgyn?
