Sgpa 3.63 Cgpa 3.63 MCAT was extremely low 22...I have great LOR's and EC's with over 12000 hours patient contact....I know it's my MCAT score I am planning to take it again but I am waiting until next spring when I will be very very well prepared for the second time around

Your GPA's are awesome! Sorry about the hold but I think your plan for next app cycle is a smart one. What day were you complete?

I was complete Aug 26. Still hoping for that 0.5% chance they will email and say hey come on up and interview lol 😉 but if I don't get in this cycle I will smoke the MCAT next time around and I should have no problems at least getting an interview next cycle... I hope.

Yeah I feel the same way! I can't wait to finally see the school and talk to students actually there to see what they say, which I find to be most helpful at interviews

Yeah. I'm excited for that also. I just want the wait over so I know where I'm going already!

I went to a "Discover DMU" day last year and I really liked it. I hope our interview tour is a little more in depth, though.....

I am really excited to actually see the campus. From what I see in pictures it is a fairly decent area.

It will be more and less. Discover DMU is a place for every program to see what it is like, and so they have to find a way to provide order for everyone as well as selling points for the school. you will definitely see more of the school, however your tour will be less in depth than Discover DMU. For example, if you saw the surgery lab in your Discover DMU day, you also got about a half hour presentation. You will see the surgery lab again, but you won't get the half hour presentation, probably more like 3-4 minutes. but you see the whole school.

It is in a pretty quiet neighborhood, an older neighborhood but its kept nice. I like Des Moines quite a bit.
As long as you don't mind weather Iowa is a pretty nice place. 🙂

Iowa has some pretty wild weather patterns sometimes. It can be three digit temps in the summer and super humid and below zero with a killer windchill factor in the winter. Snow and ice storms. Tornadoes; pretty awesome thunder/lightening storms. 🙂
But then sometimes it's just a beautiful, breezy 75....I grumble sometimes about Iowa but I love all the weather we have. Makes things interesting! Lol.

The weather has been mostly boring for a month already (1 nice storm). Looking forward to seeing what winter has in store. 😀

Yes, It has been a boring summer.... Most of the big storms come in the spring....my favorite time of year here.

Oh, winter....my nemesis. I don't mind the snow....I just don't want it to be 20 below zero.....

History, reputation, network of alumni, size, facilities, residency placement.

I am interviewing at both KCUMB and DMU. These two schools are very similar in many aspects, and they are both within my top 3. DMU gets the edge for having a better gym.
 
Any current student know how difficult it is to stay in Des Moines for clinical rotations? Do a lot of students get to rotate through Mercy?

Heck yea. I'm 3.4 26R and I got an ii, but I have extensive research and 7 pubs. With good extras you should be a shoe in at almost any school, even MD.

Yes its cold. Yes it snows every winter. What is your definition of cold?
 
Its not uncommon to get negative double digits in the winter but I think the average is closer to like 10 degrees in dec/jan/feb
 
Interview Invite received on Friday! Was trying to schedule September 27th and somebody took the last spot while I was checking my calendar. Oh well, October 18th it is. I'm definitely excited for this interview!
 
Are there any individuals that are attending DMU right now that would be whiling to answer some questions over the phone? If so shoot me a message please. With my interview fast approaching (Sept. 19th) I'm starting to get nervous :S

Snow lots. It does get pretty cold....get a nice north face parka and a hat you'll be fine. 🙂 I wouldn't say it's common to be double digit negative actual temperatures. But teens and twenties with negative windchill factor absolutely.
 
Invest in a north face. They are awesome

Or you could ask your questions here and multiple people could be helped.

Hey all. Congrats on all those with II already! For those who haven't gotten one yet, good luck!

Thanks congrats to you too! I was complete 8/7 and also thought they forgot about me or lost my application. I'm interviewing Thursday, Nov. 7. It was the earliest day available; I'm kinda bummed all the october dates are gone but oh well! GL to you!
 
Got a discount at Holiday Inn Downtown by mentioning DMU interview...$94.95/night + tax.
