Des Moines University (DMU-COM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

So I haven't taken biochem, but I took 2 semesters of O-Chem. Are they willing to substitute ochem for biochem?
I don't believe so, but you can always just call the admission office and ask. I found them to be incredibly helpful during the cycle.

This is just my personal experience, but as a current first year here I can definitely see why biochem is a pre-req. I'm already freaking out as it is, and having seen that material before makes the work load quite a bit more manageable. If you're looking for options, I took UNE's online biochem course and have no regrets.

You are required to have two semesters of O-Chem, and Biochem in addition to that. They won't substitute O-Chem for biochem, it really isn't a sufficient substitute and doesn't cover the necessary material.

Wow! If they really require two semesters of ochem they better update their web site. Here's what it said two minutes ago when I checked the osteopathy requirements:
  • Biology/zoology – 8 semester hours with lab
  • General chemistry - 8 semester hours with lab
  • Organic chemistry - 4 semester hours with lab
  • Biochemistry – 3 semester hours
  • Physics – 8 semester hours with lab (may substitute 3 semester hours of Statistics)

I guess that is an updated version then, but they won't substitute your second semester of ochem for biochem. I couldn't see any school doing that because of how different the material is and in my opinion, you're better off having the biochem than the second ochem.

so people who interviewed on the 22 should be getting their decisions this week right? anyone think they'll release decisions for the 4th too?

I interviewed on the 29th and we were informed that we should wait approximately 3 weeks. They did say that it may be possible in 2 week.

It is earlier in the cycle, take that into account. DMU is great at getting decisions out quickly, I received mine in 10 days last year, but there are more and more applications each year.

They said today that we should hear back within two weeks, and then if we don't hear within three weeks to call them. Notification will be a phone call from unknown number and that rejections will be emailed.

On an another note thanks for those SDN students at DMU who came out of their way to make us comfortable and had a good time at the school.

I interviewed on the 4th and we were told that some acceptances will also be emailed to get us our status ASAP

Guys what days does DMU interview on generally? I'm scheduled for the 09/29 but I may contact them on monday to change days since I just received another interview near Des Moines, and I would really like to be able to only have to fly to the area once due to $$$. Did there dates go past late October-early November? Thanks!

Interviews are Thursdays and Fridays, occasionally there is a Monday. They do interview past late October, early November, but I don't know when they open up those dates for people to sign up.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions, currently a first year at DMU.

Just so you know DMU does rolling admissions. So even though you would be saving some money your chances of getting in slowly start to decrease as the year goes on. If your not concerned as much about getting in here then I wouldn't worry so much.

If you are interviewing before December, your chances are still very good. I wouldn't worry about pushing your date back unless you are thinking of postponing it until December or January, that would decrease your chances, but only slightly.

I'm interviewing at DMU this Thursday. Is anyone interested in grabbing some food on Wednesday to chillax and hangout before the big day?

When was the first interview date? I interviewed on the 12th and I'm already checking my email like a mad woman!

When I was there they said 2-3 weeks. 3 weeks being the latest and if you don't hear by then to call.
Yeah 🙂.. Judging from last year's thread, acceptances typically go out on Mondays! So I guess those who interviewed on the 28th and 29th will hear back on Monday the 22nd!!

Interesting. Wouldn't that put them past the 3 week mark though? I interviewed on the 5th so am I looking at the 29th then?

Congratulations!!
Thank you so much!! <3
For the past 3+ years I used to come on sdn and see the words "Accepted" and used to wonder when my time would come..Today.. I am finally there.. Thank you all those who have supported me! My parents, my teachers, friends, Goro and fellow sdners 🙂

Wait listed today, interviewed 8/29. Congrats to those accepted

Any idea why I wouldn't have heard. I interviewed on 8/28 and haven't heard. I'm taking that as a bad sign.

But really, just relax and be patient, and don't be pessimistic. Don't constantly check your e-mail either.

I just don't see why they would send acceptances on different days. I can see rejections on later days would make sense. Not trying to be pessimistic, just think I'm being realistic. I didn't feel the interview went well anyway.

Two days worth of interview candidates = approximately 24 individuals. It's not a review interview evaluation, approval stamp, send e-mail type of deal. They are gonna take their time to fully evaluate the candidates with their interview evaluations and what not.

Just my two cents.
