Iowa State c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Historically speaking, Iowa State usually dives deep into their waitlist. I believe on average they get to the mid 100s. Also if you are waitlisted this year and were given a high number, dont give up! Two years ago I was waitlisted at Iowa State at number 328/330 (lol) and when i applied last year I got accepted when decisions were released!

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm at the bottom of the waitlist this year and I've been really discouraged by it. It is nice to know that I still have a chance, even as 238/258

I know traditionally ISU goes pretty far into their waitlist, but has anyone ever heard of them going into the 200s?

What are you all doing about housing? I haven't been called off the waitlist but I am trying to have a plan in place just in case. In another thread people are saying to get housing as soon as possible. Obviously we can't go visit apartments right now, but I don't love the idea of getting an apartment/house online without seeing it in person.

I'm in the same situation as you. I don't want to get a place to live without seeing it in person either. Plus, I have a dog and three cats.....

I have bunnies and I've never had a problem finding a place with them, even in no-pet apartments. I don't know what to do, especially with a chance that schools could still be online in the fall, but I don't want to wait too long either. I looked through the virtual parade of homes and I'm interested in the mobile home option too, but I'd definitely have to see that in person before committing to buy. I'm #65...So close!!

I noticed a lot of the students in the preview day Q&A said they lived in the mobile home park by the school. I have two dogs and if I somehow get called off that's what I would be looking into! Good luck 🙂

Only problem is that my dog is a reactive doggo so I need to be somewhere she won't be constantly stressed. She's in behavioral modification, but I still can't be on top of other people with dogs so to speak.

So as a current 3rd year student I can tell you overall Ames is VERY pet friendly! I live in the trailer park and had my old girl with me there. I do recommend seeing trailers in person but definitely recommend living there as rent is much cheaper than in the apartments and it's very much a nice community for the vet students. If anyone has specific questions please feel free to message me or ask on the chat!

would you say the trailer park is doable with a dog that doesnt get along with other animals? I'm not sure if people are constantly out walking their pups or if theres some space for those of us with troubled dogs?

Yes, this exactly. My girl is terrified of other dogs and I cannot get her to pee if she sees another dog. She's still really shut down from having been in a shelter way too long.

How much does it cost to accept & secure an OOS spot if you’re called?

and @Middyaza
There are a wide variety of dogs in the trailer parks. There are definitely those that love everyone else and they obviously do great. There are others that aren't so good with other dogs and most of us are vet students so we usually respect that fact. I personally know that there are quite a few that don't get along with others and their owners often walk them earlier in the mornings or just in their yards. Busy times are usually between 7 and 8am, 11:30-1:30 pm as our lunch is in the middle and after classes are out. Most people will give each other space or cross to the other side of the street if there is another dog approaching from the other direction.

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad to know people are able to work around these issues even in a trailer park.

Do we call Kathy Kuehl to ask where they are on the waitlist? I’d be happy to call every once in a while if we aren’t updated on here.

I'd email them and find out but I just asked Thursday. I don't want to be pushy. Lol

Ahhhhhh! I'm feeling so hopeful for the first time. I really would hate to feel the disappointment if the class fills up before it gets to me now, but fingers crossed.

I wish we knew how many spots were open! The class page on facebook has 77 members! (Yes I'm a stalker lol)

Nice thing about vet students is they are pretty respectful if your dogs need some distance.
