It kinda sounds like I'm the only weird one who wanted to wait until the letter arrived to find out 😉 Congrats to everyone with acceptances who will be joining our class next year!
All that worrying for nothingCongrats man!
Well, I sent in a LOI yesterday.... Here's to hoping I can go to FL instead of Erie!!! I would soooo much rather be in FL!
Is anyone else interviewing on January 6th?
Also quick question, I know the subject of the DO Letter was covered earlier, but I have a question about Science Professor Letters. I have 1/2 Science Faculty letters in, and my DO letter just got sent in. Other professors who have promised to write me the missing letter will be unable to write them until after winter break (which ends Jan 8th). Do I absolutely need the letter before my interview? Should I e-mail and ask if it is ok that the letter comes in 1-2 weeks after my interview? Any help would be awesome! 🙂
Edit: Also, in my requirements folder it says "Waiting for Grade Update" ... do I need to send in an updated Transcript?
Ok! Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I was assuming that was the case, but you can't ever be too sure 🙂You do not have to have the letter in beforehand, but your file will not be complete and they won't make a decision until it is
I had to do it 🙄 I went and bought some anatomy flash cards to go over in my spare time until class starts. 😀 I have had zero exposure to anatomy other than EMT school which was quite basic. Also, I was curious, is there assigned or "suggested" reading that is to be completed before class starts? I do not want to be behind from the get go 😱

I'm doing the same thing...looking through an old anatomy book I ordered. In the time off I'm not in school, so I figure brushing up is probably a good idea because of the transition into classes.
Honestly, don't bother pre-studying... The common wisdom even here on SDN, a Type A-personality-heavy community, is that it's at best a waste of your time, and at worst a HUGE waste of your time.
People will differ on this. And yes, I spent my downtime at work before med school working on the Anatomy Coloring Book. Did it help? Didn't feel like it. You have to have some idea of what you're expected to know to really study well, and it's impossible to get that without being here and going through the lectures and labs. Also, you will need to spend a lot of time reading and studying no matter what your baseline is. That is, you won't be saving time by pre-studying. You will have to go over the same material you tried to read beforehand another couple of times to make it stick.
The school may send you an email eventually saying you should try to read a few chapters in one book or another before school starts, once the book list comes out (usually in late May/early June).
Anyway, to sum up, pre-studying won't improve your grades. If you're the kind of person who enjoys learning this stuff, fine; but don't push yourself too hard. The best part of medical school is the time between when you got accepted, and the first day of class. Make the most of that free time. Once you start, school has its ups and downs, and you just have to grind your way through it. Congrats to those of you who've been accepted, and good luck to everybody.
Thanks for the advice! I do not expect to know anything before I get there. I do enjoy learning about the structures and this is why after I put my kids to bed I might spend an hour or two going through the cards. I must say that it is a little hard to get out of the mind set of always feeling like I should be studying. I kind of feel like I am missing somethig. Probably driving my wife nuts not having anything to doAfter taking all these pre-req's, Lets just say I am very anxious to finally study the stuf I personally find to be very interesting.🙄 I totally understand what you are saying and I am trying to give myself a break and just reeellllaaaxxxxx a bit 😀
Does anyone know the general lag time for LECOM-B to get and subsequently update the status of your LORs? 😕 Two of mine were submitted recently and the status still says not received. One was e-mailed six days ago, the other was sent via snail mail seven days ago. I know it seems impatient to be asking so soon, but I have an additional letter getting sent in the upcoming weeks and I'd love to know what time frame I'm looking at. Thank you!
In February.Yes, that is a reasonable fare for this time of year, especially if you're flying into Bradenton. Buying sooner is usually better than later, but when is your interview?

I stayed at Country Inn (which was very nice), and some others I met stayed at the Wingate. Which is also very nice. They are close to the school, but I think pretty much everyone either rented a car, or carpooled with someone else. You can talk to the hotel and see if they'll shuttle you, but I remember talking to both, and they wouldn't 'guarantee' me that they would be able to provide me transportation to the school.
For anyone on the waitlist, there is still hope! I was accepted on the 23rd after only a week or two on the list! Really excited to be going here, and keep up hope for those of you who are still on the list.
When were you complete?
I was complete on 11/9, and got a call on 12/6 asking me if I could show up to interview on 12/9 since I lived nearby. With such short notice, on top of not having a DO letter at the time, I declined. Apparently, they were booked until March and I was told it is much more competitive come then, so the secretary said she would call me back when an earlier spot opened. So I still await...

Hey, the interview wasn't bad at all. Like everyone says, it was pretty laid back. The 1x1 interview is 10-20minutes and they ask 3-5 ?s. A few of my ?s were specific to my app, such as why did I do so poorly on the MCAT the 1st 2 times lol. And what I thought of my Masters program, and most importantly (i think) was describe PBL to me.
I had a similar experience. 3 simple questions asked in this order:
Tell me about your undergrad
Tell me about your MCAT
Tell me about your research
Very friendly interviewer who pretty much tied my undergrad education and research experience into what PBL is all about (small group and independent learning). He made the connections to PBL for me after I "told him about XYZ" and said I seem to be the perfect candidate. Others in the group also said they had laid back interviews.
Individual interviews at ~9AM to get it out of the way. The group interview was ~30 minutes, quite enjoyable. We were given a scenario about a mistake in the hospital and we were the board panels. We were asked one question, given time to answer and respond to others in the group and debate until no one had further input before we were asked another question. Financial aid etc etc in the afternoon and it was a great experience overall! Good luck to you
Finally got my II status in the portal! For those curious about portal statuses, I was "application sent to committee for further review" for about two weeks. Just to give a timeline. Still "under review" for LECOM-E.
A question for those who have sent in a deposit. If and how was it acknowledged and when did they actually cash the check?
and a big HELLO to c/o 2016!![]()
Thanks for the info! They will acknowledge it in the portal system under your status I believe. As far as when they actually cash your check, I am not sure as I gave them a certified check from my bank which comes out when you get it from the bank. I think Mrs. Shively sends a conformation email as well but don't quote me on this.
I am definitely looking forward to starting this July!!!!👍
