Liberty University COM (LUCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

Does anyone know where students rotate at in 3rd and 4th years?

About 1/2 the class stays around the lyncburg area (priority given to married students and those with children). The other half gets sent to areas around the region including Richmond and other parts of Virginia, Houston I think, and parts of Florida. You can also request to be put with about 10 other students in another region. For example, I'm going to work with some students to get rotation sites somewhere in the west coast. We'll see how that works out though.

Interviewed here on August 28. Loved everything about the school. I thought that the interview process was great and very low stress. Accepted yesterday and couldn't be more happy.

I interviewed on August 24. Wonderful experience and awesome school. I was very impressed!

At my interview, I was told that the admissions committee meets monthly to decide on acceptances and their last meeting was on 9/3, and based on this thread it seems that it took another week for them to send out notifications, so everyone interviewing after 9/3 can expect a decision in early October.

To any current students, does the school require you buy a certain type of laptop?

Me too, congratulations! Have you received the any emails yet? Dr. Martin told me I would and I haven't gotten one yet.
I got the acceptance call on the 11th and I have yet to receive an email or the paper copy. I wouldn't worry about it too much we are still extremely early in the cycle so they may be waiting to send out a bunch at the same time.

Scratch that.... I just got the email about 2 minutes after posting this LOL. Just be patient with them. This is a very busy time for all admissions offices.

DON'T BUY A LAPTOP!

It is part of your tuition. We got HP elitebooks that are touchscreen with solid state drives so they're pretty quick. No HDMI outlet though, only VGA so you'll need an adapter. All the monitors in our building fortunately have those for direct access. I've been using macs the last couple of years but this notebook is pretty good. We also have awesome tech service with the IT department, better than you will get with Apple, Best Buy, etc.

Do we have a choice to opt out of buying the school's laptop ?

Can anyone please tell me what the second secondary's two prompts were? (wow, that's a lot of deuces)

Just had my interview today, and I absolutely loved it! They have a gorgeous campus and excellent staff that is all about promoting a family-like community. I did find out that they are lowering the number of interviews from last year's 600 to 400 this cycle.

I have no idea where to even find the secondary application. I logged into a portal and there's nothing showing me where to submit my secondary.

I remember this problem too, if you go back to the secondary invitation, then you click on the button lower down in the email that says something like 'start secondary'. If this doesn't work, I'll find the actual email and post it on here for you to see.

Quick question... I am in my second year of undergrad and am exploring my possibilities for medical school. I am interested in Liberty specifically because I would love to get a dual degree (D.O. and M.Div). Does anyone know if this is possible at Liberty?

You can take the USMLE's along with the COMLEX's, yes. But why are you looking to do so? There are some programs where they do prefer USMLE's, but that's pretty rare. Honestly in the coming years there won't be that big of a difference between DO's and MD's

I think he means M.Div degree not M.D. Master of Divinity(AKA M.Div) is a part of seminary school, the kind of degree that pastors get. I think I saw on the Academic calatog(you can find this on the website: Academic->catalog) that they are still working on dual degrees which include D.O/M.A of Ministry not M.Div, as M.Div requires almost 3 years to complete. Check out the Catalog as it's very informative.

My bad! I thought it was a typo for MD. Thanks for clearing that up!

Has anyone who has been accepted received their physical packet? I have received the email but no actual papers.

Thank you so much! You don't want to know how long I spent trying to figure this out.

Pre-screened REJECTION.

Lord, why did you do this to me?!
I'm really sorry to hear that. Was it before the secondary? I know you don't want to hear this, but if so, at least they did it this way instead of other schools asking for your money and then giving you a rejection a few months later. Cassie at admissions is a great lady, I'm sure if you sent her a personal email and asked what you can do to improve your application, she'd give you some valuable feedback.

They prefer to have all sections on the MCAT above 125/8 on the new and old, respectively...... I have a score<8
They also prefer +3.4 GPA, which I dont have.

Just got a acceptance call from Dr. Martin! I'm truly grateful for the opportunity!

Did they give you an option as far as how long until you hear their decision? Just wondering, because LECOM gave me the option of hearing my acceptance decision either A) By September 30th or B) After November 14. I'm still trying to figure out if this is just a Lake Erie thing or if other schools, such as Liberty does this as well.
Also, congratulations on the acceptance! Way to kill it!!

Not at all. They just told me I will hear from them in 3-4 weeks.

That's mainly a LECOM thing. I would wait until November to hear back from LECOM, then you'll have more time to receive other acceptances without paying $1500 to hold your seat.

Just got to Lynchburg and I have to say I love the atmosphere on campus. For such a small school, it seems spirited and high-energy!

Small school? Largest Christian school in the world, my friend. But yeah, it's such a fantastic place! Good luck tomorrow!

Haha yeah, I go to a major university with 40,000+ students so it seems small to me. Thanks though! Can't wait for the interview.

So I got a secondary today...after receiving a rejection pre secondary a month ago. I guess they reviewed my application and decided to send me one? Anyways I'll take it hopefully I still have a chance. Did anyone else get one after initially saying you wouldn't?

I also got another secondary today. I got the initial secondary on 9/17.. and it was submitted last week. Weird..

If you get a secondary is it reasonable to assume that you will receive an II?

That does not sound right... Unless there is heavy heavy flow on their waitlist or they dont reject many ppl. thats just too few interviews to have in general. Most schools accept double the seats, even if they only rejected 25% of applicants post interview leaving 300 accepted thats still too few.
