LIU c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just wanted to let everyone know that one of my friends actually visited the Liu campus. Apparently they have nothing to show, they haven’t even started building anything. The $12 million dollars they received from the state to build the vet school went to the undergraduate department. That is why I feel like they did interviews via video chat because they have nothing to show. I just wanted to let everyone know because I don’t really think 6 months is enough time to build the appropriate buildings and facilities for a vet school. Again you don’t have to believe me, just wanted to let you all know

If this is true... oh, boy.

Though then I don’t see how they would have received their letter of reasonable assurance, as I’m pretty confident that there’s some bare minimum level of facilities required, though I may be misunderstanding the COE website. I know that there’s no intent to construct a teaching hospital (which... not opening that can of worms right now) but there aren’t any buildings built at all? No offices, classrooms, laboratories, or anything?
My friend asked for a tour to see something and she was told that there has been no construction yet. So who knows

This is good to know!

I was hoping there was some sort of Q/A session during the interview where I can ask them more in depth about the school, the curriculum, the facilities, and clinical rotations, but if they don't have much set up yet, I'm worried that they will throw us into any empty classroom for didactics and hope that we are prepared enough for clinicals. It would be nice if they at the bare minimum had a clinical teaching lab to help with the classroom to hospital transition. I'm very curious why the $12 million dollars they received went to the state and what sort of funding they will have left to invest in the veterinary school. I'd also would have like to know if there were any opportunities for scholarships since the tuition and cost of living is expensive.

I know that LIU has a vet tech program already so *perhaps* if anything they’ll use their facilities if the planned construction isn’t done yet? I feel like they wouldn’t be accepting applications if they didn’t plan on being ready, it just wouldn’t make sense (at least to me lol).

Doesn't mean anything just yet. They're just sending out some acceptances on a rolling basis.

Congrats to everyone that got accepted and interviewed! I have an interview coming up with them and was wondering if anyone is willing to share questions they were asked? (To help us hopefuls prepare!) Huge thank you in advance 🙂

Sharing questions is not allowed. You have to agree to this before the interview.

Anyone apply in January and hear anything back yet? The school just confirmed that they received all my stuff but I still haven’t heard anything beyond that

For people who went on the interview already...do they allow you to ask questions at the end?

I asked one question to one interviewer and I was told they couldn’t really discuss anything with us other than the scenario given but they were very nice about it (I asked if construction was done and they briefly just said no).

How long did the interview last?

Are you allowed to say how many scenarios/questions there were?
Yeah, their email says it too. It's 7 scenarios and they sometimes coax you with questions if you havent already touched upon certain things.

Okay so all the questions are scenario based? because I know there are different question types that aren’t scenario based

I applied shortly before the deadline because I was back and forth about whether I was going to apply or not. I've called and emailed several times and haven't heard anything back yet. It'll be between either LIU or Ross for me and I'm having a very hard time deciding which would be a better option for me.

If you want to PM me, I would be happy to talk through the options with you.
I'm really unsure too; it's LIU, UPenn or VAMD. But Long Island is home so it has my heart lol

I’m in the exact same boat ! I interviewed with Ross yesterday but would love to hear from LIU.

You really should deeply consider either UPenn or VAMD. The fact that you have options is great! You should consider which one is not only the cheapest (most likely UPenn is the most expensive), but the fact that boy UPenn and VAMD having teaching hospitals. I have lived on the island my whole life and was really excited about going to a vet school on the island and staying home. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized I don’t think I could focus on vet med material while being so close to family and friends, way too many distractions. Of course that’s my opinion, but all I’m saying is, you got into 2 schools that have been accredited and have a really good reputation, it should be a no brainer. Congrats!!!

It should be, but I'm still conflicted lol the no teaching hospital is not a deal breaker for me. I also really liked all of my LIU interviewers and would love to learn from charismatic professors; not to say they're not charismatic elsewhere lol

I applied in Jan and haven’t even heard about my completed application
I had to email them to make sure that they had all my stuff, I’m 99% sure I’m not going to get in but I’m really hoping for the best / am willing to pay the ungodly amount of money

I feel like I would have heard something by now. I’m also considering Ross.

I was wondering if anyone has taken the CASPer test and if so they could tell me more about the format of it?

As far as I know, the only school that requires it is Virginia-Maryland Regional CVM for next cycle's admissions.
You don't need it for LIU or any of the other schools in the country besides VAMD

In the email I got from LIU about the interview it says they want us to take the CASPer as well(no fee)

When I was emailed about my interview they didn’t say anything but I interviewed 2/8 so maybe it’s now a requirement?

That wouldn’t really be fair if they only had some people be required to take it. That’s weird

For those who were accepted.... when was your interview date and time and when did you receive your official acceptance email? Anyone mind sharing stats?
I’m also confused because I asked one of the interviewers and she said we would only be finding out the week of March 27, and by snail mail, not email.

Ugh I hope it’s not snail mail that’s the worst lol I really should have asked them when we should be finding out, good thinking on your behalf! Hopefully we’ll all find out soon *fingers crossed*

There is so much conflicting information, I can definitely see how this is all so confusing!

My interviewed as an instate student February 8th and received my official acceptance email February 14th.
I had my application/documents all submitted and confirmed by the first week of December and started the application mid November.
When I applied, I was under the information that admissions were rolling, which was why I applied ASAP.

There was no mention that I needed to take the CASPer test. For anyone unfamiliar with it, it is kind of a computer based ethics test that is more commonly used in human medical school application to test your skills in areas such as emotional intelligence, communication, etc.

I don't know if the requirements are different if in state or out of state applicant, but this was my experience as an in state applicant.

I hope this helps. Happy to answer questions about my experience, but I'd much prefer not to share GPA stats.

I just don’t like that they sent out some acceptances.... if it’s a no I want to know now.
