LIU c/o 2024

For those who were accepted.... when was your interview date and time and when did you receive your official acceptance email? Anyone mind sharing stats?
I’m also confused because I asked one of the interviewers and she said we would only be finding out the week of March 27, and by snail mail, not email.

I interviewed 2/8 and got the acceptance by email 2/14 and by snail mail 2/18. I submitted mid-October.

I did not hear anything about the CASPer test either. But the interviewers did not have much of an opportunity to speak to us (at least in my experience)

For those of you who interviewed. How did the interview go? Did you prepare at all? Is it bad if you don’t talk for the full 7 minutes? Currently freaking out...

Interviewed 2/8, accepted 2/14
3.4 ugrad (Marine Science)
3.44 science
3.97 Graduate GPA (Earth and Envirnomental Science)

There is so much conflicting information, I can definitely see how this is all so confusing!

My interviewed as an instate student February 8th and received my official acceptance email February 14th.
I had my application/documents all submitted and confirmed by the first week of December and started the application mid November.
When I applied, I was under the information that admissions were rolling, which was why I applied ASAP.

There was no mention that I needed to take the CASPer test. For anyone unfamiliar with it, it is kind of a computer based ethics test that is more commonly used in human medical school application to test your skills in areas such as emotional intelligence, communication, etc.

I don't know if the requirements are different if in state or out of state applicant, but this was my experience as an in state applicant.

I hope this helps. Happy to answer questions about my experience, but I'd much prefer not to share GPA stats.

I interviewed IS Feb 8th also, and had everything submitted within the first week of the application opening which is why I’m getting nervous :/

I hope you hear back soon! Seems like they are a bit arbitrary with sending out decisions, fellow New Yorker!

Update: I received a personal letter from the dean with another original copy of my acceptance letter and a handwritten note. Did anyone else get this?

My mail got sent to my parent's house, so I don't even know if I got the snail mail copy of the acceptance letter. What did the letter from the dean say?

Just a handwritten note saying congratulations.

Is anyone still waiting to hear about an interview? I was accepted to another school and can't decide if to attend the interview or not at LIU next week

No facilities to see at tour and keeping this many applicants hanging? I’m sure this will offend someone, but if you have not heard yet and do have other options for school I would be very seriously considering them at this point... not to say this program will never have it all together but this honestly is concerning for a school with reasonable assurance.

I am starting to agree with you. I got into SGU and was going to hopefully compare the two but there are concerns that keep popping up at LIU.

To be honest I thought there weren’t many applicants considering I received an email about applying in December. I never heard of LIU until then. I didn’t finish my submission until the due date in Jan so perhaps they still have applicants to go through but I’m starting to become doubtful

If you were to interview and receive an offer of admission at LIU, would you actually seriously consider attending there over the school you’ve already been accepted at? If not, then I personally don’t think it’s worth the time and expense. Especially given some of the very legitimate concerns that have been raised in this thread.

I completely agree.. I have other options but LIU was my closest option but there are so many concerns. They recommended I retake a course because I took it over 6 years ago but I don’t think I’ll be hearing from them, so I’m torn about dropping the course. I just want answers

I didn’t apply there, but I was talking to a faculty member at LMU and they didn’t have the farm when they took students the first year either. They just taught and did labs in the math and sci building. I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as we think because they could use models for teaching the first year. Dog cadavers may be going away all together so there are new methods of learning anatomy.

I interviewed on the 8th and have not heard anything from them. Does this mean I'm not accepted?

I’m also in the same situation however I think it’s too early to worry just because they said that we would know for sure by March 27th. I’m not panicking quite yet especially since the last interview date is March 1st. Still don’t get why they would send out a few acceptances very early on and then send out the rest of them the week of March 27th lol but that’s just me.

I’m panicking because if the last interview date is March 1st and I still haven’t heard from them and March 1st is in a week then I’m assuming I am being declined from the program

LIU is also super expensive for tuition and cost of living

I got accepted to two schools and have the interview for LIU Saturday, I am seriously considering not attending the interview because of the price of the school compared to the schools I got accepted to, and it’s scaring me how nothing is built and I have nothing to go off of... thoughts anyone??

What drew you to apply to LIU? I feel like that will help you decide especially since you have 2 other options.

LIU is a brand new school, has no facilities built, won’t have a teaching hospital, is extremely expensive, and is in an area with a high cost of living. I would strongly recommend going to one of the other schools you’ve gotten into.

Can you actually seriously, realistically see yourself attending LIU if you were to receive an offer of admission over the other schools you've already been accepted to? If not, it's almost definitely not worth the time and cost to go to the interview, especially given the other concerns.

I'm not applying, but if you have 2 acceptances already and would not attend LIU even if you got accepted then I wouldn't go to the interview. If you think you would still accept the spot then go, otherwise I would save the money you would be spending from traveling

when I originally applied I wasn’t accepted to any schools yet so I was like why not? And also it’s relatively closer to where I currently live

I feel like the cost of tuition would definitely throw me off, obviously I know vet school is expensive but trying to save as much money as possible is ideal

Well the interview is a video interview so I wouldn’t need to travel for the interview, and originally I was like well it wouldn’t hurt to do the interview but now I was also informed I have to take the CASPer exam, free of charge, but still.

I didn't realize that it was a video interview. Regardless, it's still time and effort on the part of both you and your interviewer(s); I suspect that they'd probably be able to pick up if you weren't genuinely very interested in and/or skeptical about their program (no shame in that, by the way; it's totally understandable given the COA and what's been circulating in the rumor mill). If you simply really want to do the interview for practice or whatever, then all the power to you... but, at the same time, if you're already very confident that you will attend another school, then I don't see a reason to bother; I declined interviews at a couple of schools when I received an acceptance at my IS school back in the day. I promise you that no one will bat an eye at it, if that's one of your worries. It'll also potentially open up an interview spot for someone else on the off-chance that LIU is employing an interview waitlist.

Yeah that takes the cost part out. I personally still wouldn't do it if I wasn't totally interested but it could be good "practice interview" time. Is there an interview waitlist for LIU? If there is then I would definitely recommend giving up the interview spot for someone else who might be waiting!

I got accepted to St George’s and Ross, both tuitions are less than LIU, and the cost of living on campus is cheaper as well. As far as cost of living(food, flights home, etc) I don’t know if it would outweigh the extra costs of LIU. That is kind of the biggest thing I’m trying to determine.

I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but at least both Ross and SGU exist...

Do you think that if we haven't heard anything by now that its likely our apps were tossed and were denied?

No! I talked to Felicia on Monday and she told me that my application was just getting passed along to the committee.

Hey guys, I have my interview on Saturday! I know we can't talk specifics on questions, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to prepare! I'm not really sure what to expect

Typical MMI. I didn’t really prepare, because I’ve always been told to go into an MMI open minded. The interviewers were really nice.

Does anyone know if LIU is building dorms or the cost of living is for apartments

They already have dorms/ graduate housing. But in general the cost of living on Long Island, especially in that area, is very high

I talked to Kate and she told me all applications are currently under review and I will be notified when a decision is rendered.

Does anyone know who we would get in touch with for any questions we may have about the school

I really wonder how many people they accepted already and if they're just waiting until the end to send out all the rejection letters

I don’t think they’re even close to filling all of their seats yet. Only a few people have posted in this thread that they got accepted so far and there’s more interviews that they have to do. The majority of people that interviewed already haven’t heard anything yet so I wouldn’t worry! We’re still in it
