Who's definitely going to MWU this fall and could you shed some light why you chose MWU if you got into a cheaper school? I loved MWU and I am still waiting to hear from my top choice but want to be prepared to make a decision about my second choice school. I also got into LMU so I'm debating (cheaper tuition/rural location) vs MWU (EXPENSIVE tuition/however beautiful and amazing school and campus).

I don't know what to do 🙁

Think realistically and choose which best fit for you. You want to save as much money as possible.

OOS acceptance to MWU as well (heard back in December). Waiting to see if I move off my IS waitlist after April. In my opinion, MWU has an incredible program. Aside from the high tuition costs, I really do not see many disadvantages of attending the school (despite it being newer).

This is a pretty freaking massive disadvantage in itself, though, and it's one of the reasons I didn't choose to attend when I applied and was accepted several years back (and that decision may very well have saved my life given what has transpired since). I feel like it's really telling that @FrostySparrow, who has gone on record saying that she absolutely loves the program and has enjoyed her experience there, has urged others with offers at cheaper schools to pursue those options instead.

Crossing my fingers and hoping that you get pulled off of the waitlist at your IS!

I mean, yes, I completely agree. Its very expensive. I was debating if I should apply again for the next cycle due to not having much luck this cycle. However, I am extremely thankful for one acceptance. It is a gamble applying for another cycle imo.

What school do you attend?/Are planning on attending?

I went to ISU for two years (I was c/o 2020, so would have graduated this year).

Hi! OOS acceptance... was wondering if someone who is a current student can give me some pros and cons on their experience there! Thanks!

Does anyone know if Midwestern has a dress code?

Business casual (*for lectures and clinics): no jeans (only on Fridays *in lectures, must be paired with a school shirt or business casual shirt), no leggings unless paired with a shirt that can cover your behind, no tennis shoes (also okay on Fridays I believe), sandals must have a strap in the back, no shorts/skirts was also communicated to my class, dresses okay. Never wear scrubs outside of the lab, you have to change back into your business casual clothes. Mainly student enforced but faculty take note of things like this.

We also have policies on colored hair, visible tattoos/piercings in our handbook but mainly in regards to when interacting with clients. Don’t know the exact details of these.

Does anyone know if Midwestern has free counseling for students? If so, is there a limit to the number of sessions? Thanks!

We have a great team of counselors and a recently hired psychiatrist (who I believe is free to see). The school has some great relief days which include dogs, free lunch/breakfast bars (especially close to finals).

We also have several mental health programs/initiatives implemented on campus. We have students who are the founders/are helping start Stress Management Programs (expanding to several other schools with the MWU student’s help) and Not One More Vet Student Support Page respectively.

Found out I was accepted a few weeks ago and will be joining the fall class! Class of 2024 woo hoo! Very excited, definitely concerned about tuition but I have to keep telling myself that it’s worth it. I’m planning on moving out there with my husband in June/July or as soon as he can find work or get a job transfer, but I was wondering if any current student or other accepted student would know if there is like a “school supply” list we have to have before starting? I saw all of the documentation and immunization stuff I need to get done before orientation, but I’m wondering if there is like certain colors of scrubs we need to buy, if I need to budget for a new stethoscope soon, etc. Any ideas? Or will we find all this out at orientation?

You should get all of this before orientation! We will send you information. But assuming it doesn’t change, the scrub color is navy blue, you’ll need coveralls (but not until spring time), otherwise a stethoscope is a great investment along with a good watch you like, business casual attire and comfy shoes! Congrats on the acceptance. Also would recommend joining the MWU CVM FB page. The vaccines you have until like November to get done, so no rush on those either!

Here's the list i got before school started in August! The supplies are towards the bottom. The only thing i did not get was the hunter green scrubs because you don't need those until second year.

You guys are obviously welcome to buy what materials you are comfortable with, but my friend who is a second year never bought the textbooks because she heard she didn't need them, and she never has. Seems like all the material she needs is what the professor provides. Everyone is different tho! Just might save you some money

I agree 100%, I wouldn’t buy the textbooks until you’ve attended the first few lectures and even then people sell their ones from the previous year on the CVM FB page so you can buy them cheaper if you want them. I don’t use textbooks and only use what the professors provide.

Also didn’t use any of the following during first year (and most I still don’t during second) the pen light, suture scissors, bandage scissors, Taylor reflex hammer, or the dry erase marker. You get away without having colored pencils too, only time I recall using them was 1 lecture during first year, but wasn’t required.

Awesome, thanks so much!

Also, any current students on here thinking about doing the MPH program they are now offering? Because vet school alone just isn't difficult enough right? 😉 Lol. I'm very tempted to enroll but I have no idea what vet school alone is even like so I have no idea if I can even handle doing the MPH program on top of that!

I had friends that are interested and thinking about applying. Not sure if a lot of them did. I know we’ve talked amongst ourselves about doing it vs. doing something else after school (masters vs. PhD), and we did all agree that costs factored into it. Midwestern already being so expensive for the vet program, but adding in the mph; personally would rather pursue a degree separately elsewhere.

But for those who do decide to pursue it, with Dr. Chapman running the program... I’m confident it’ll be great!

Im a first year and i did apply for the MPH program! I was told that they will going through applicants starting Monday (3/16) since the application cycle will be closed so i can keep you updated if i get in!

Has anyone who applied for the on-campus housing heard back from them about their housing assignments? I think I was told we would hear back in March, but this was a while ago.

Please keep in mind things may be delayed as vet schools are currently focused on their current students and the state of our education with COVID-19. Hopefully it’s not delayed too much, since it’s a housing situation.. but I would expect some delay.

I totally understand! That’s why I figured I’d just ask around before calling or anything

The housing application said that "Housing assignments are complete by March 30th." but I also wouldn't be surprised if we received an email saying assignments have been pushed out due to COVID19 crisis.

Has Midwestern mentioned anything about possibly extending immunization requirements? I don't know what to do about getting titres done or the TB skin test or rabies? Understandably my doctors office isn't doing any of this until around June. I just worry about cutting it close to when school starts. I'm curious if anyone else has heard anything.

None of this is required until some time in November. You’ll get official deadlines as orientation gets closer!

Not gonna lie, I am a little nervous about finding housing for my husband and I for the Fall... So hard to not know if we are going to be able to visit to look at places before we have to actually move. Anyone else in the same boat?

Just got the email that on-campus housing is filled up. Can anyone help with some suggestions for apartments that are within walking distance of campus? I’m coming from NY without my car 🙁

They've gathered this list for students and it may be worth posting on the school FB page (you’ll get a wider range of responses there) with feedback on apartments you end up interested in.

Same here! My boyfriend and I are moving from California. It's definitely by far not the longest move (kudos to those moving from another country or the East Coast) but I still didn't want the stress of having to look for an apartment. I applied for On-Housing Apartments back in January and got my apartment assignment today 🙂 . I'm so stoked!! Now we just need this whole pandemic thing to subside 🙁...

I am moving from Florida 🙁 I didn't apply for on campus housing because we are toying with buying a house potentially. hoping by July things will come back to normal (at least a little)

If you do end up wanting to buy a house i know a great realtor out here. I used him last summer when i purchased a house. Best decision i have ever made!

You were able to get on campus housing as an incoming first year?

Yeah. I was accepted into the program in late December and applied for housing in early January. I had a feeling it’d fill up super quick and got nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get on-campus housing if I didn’t do so right away lol
