My top choice and was waitlisted today. Also rejected from another school today that I already had an interview at. Beyond crushed. Feeling very defeated and like all of my hard work isn't paying off 🙁 Worried I might not get in anywhere at this point.

Being waitlisted isn't the end! I have a feeling the Midwestern waitlist will move pretty well since a lot of others will robably choose a lesser priced school if they get the choice.

Try to stay positive. If you were waitlisted, there is still hope. I know several people that were waitlisted in the past and are vet students now. I am still waiting to hear back from my instate school on whether or no I’ll be accepted. If I do get accepted I will be turning down my spot at Midwestern (simply due to instate being a lot cheaper for me), and this will open up another spot for someone off the waitlist.

I’m sorry to hear that 🙁 when did you interview?

My friend just got the accepted student checklist and she interviewed the 29th. That 100% means she got in right?!

Yes - who was your friend? I interviewed on the 29th too.

I got the accepted student checklist and when I emailed they said that meant I was accepted. They just haven’t emailed me the official acceptance because my counselor was out of the office. So based on what they told me, if you got the accepted checklist you’re in! Congrats!!

OOS acceptance! I really love midwestern but I am conflicted about attending. Since they are so new, they have yet to build a strong reputation as compared to some other schools. Does anyone know if the vet school you attend has a large impact on your ability to get a job later in the future?

It does make an impact. I say this respectfully, but there are some veterinary schools that offers more than others. A great veterinary school would provide many opportunities for their students to strengthen their education and get the experience you need at the end of this. Places want you to be well prepared so they can hire you. So you have to make sure you are making a good investment on the school you choose but also consider which school fits your needs (location/tuition/housing $$). I'm from Texas and I know Texas A&M is such a great veterinary school and the tuition is cheaper! I dont know Midwestern enough to compare it to other schools since it's still very new. I know tuition there is very expensive.. which is something to consider..

In my opinion what has bearing is what you do with that education, how you present yourself and argue for your own case. I’ve met some lesser graduates from great schools and vice versa. A school should not be what closes or opens doors, but what you do in school (which you can make your own opportunities in) and how you use that education (on top of your personality and the like) is what should. Again just my opinion though, and have known plenty of students from “lesser than” schools who have matched at their top choices and gone to kick ass. Will reputation always play a role in the rumor mill? Sure, but any person who looks past you because of it... you don’t want to work with/for.
That being said, I haven’t had any issue when attending conferences. Many people I’ve spoken to were excited to talk to me and spoke highly of things they’ve heard or from their own experiences from our graduates.

I would say Midwestern has a pretty strong reputation among the veterinary professionals that know current students and graduates. I believe everyone in my class had multiple job offers and there are quite a few of us in internships and residencies. I do not believe the vet school you attend has a large impact on ability to get a job in the future and should not be a major factor in your decision making.

I think it's quite the opposite. I think because they are so new they have a lot to offer that other schools do not such as state of the art facilities and the newest technologies to help teach students. Midwestern seemed to do a good job at taking a look at what other schools are lacking or could do better, and that's how they formed their curriculum. Plus, Dr. Gartrell said in my interview that Midwestern graduates are offered on average $20k more than students from other schools because they have so many surgeries under their belt by time they graduate.

Just got the accepted student checklist - Based on what people have said on here it sounds like I’ve been accepted??? No email or call yet though so doesn’t feel real yet lol

Hi! Same thing happened to me. I put my deposit down and my acceptance email didn’t come until the next day. Congrats!

I was hoping to get some input from students in the DVM program at Midwestern. I am looking to transfer there from SGU but don't know a lot about the program.

So I would be moving across the country and it’s the first time I’m moving...so a little nervous here! When would be the best time to start looking for places?

depends, are you looking for an apartment to live alone? Do you wanna rent with other students? if the latter, are you already on the FB pages? If not, I’d join them quick! Otherwise, when are you wanting to be down here by?

I would be moving with my husband and 2 dogs. My lease ends at the end of July so looking to move first week of August

I would start looking around late March-early May then, at least browsing for now to get a feel for what you like. You may even browse now. But depending what you want (house vs apartment) you’ll probably have better luck closer to May/June for stuff to open up.

Ok awesome! Thank you so much!

First year applicant and was waitlisted. Anybody know my chances? this school is my top choice and the anticipation is unreal!

Who's definitely going to MWU this fall and could you shed some light why you chose MWU if you got into a cheaper school? I loved MWU and I am still waiting to hear from my top choice but want to be prepared to make a decision about my second choice school. I also got into LMU so I'm debating (cheaper tuition/rural location) vs MWU (EXPENSIVE tuition/however beautiful and amazing school and campus).

I don't know what to do 🙁

As a MWU Student, go to the cheaper school! The debt seems like air until it isn’t.
