Mount Sinai vs. Cornell Revisit?

Since revisit weekends are the same for Cornell and Mount Sinai this year, does anyone have any suggestion as to which one to attend? I really loved both schools from the interview visit, and was really hoping to know more about each through revisit before deciding. Guess that won't be an option this year 😛

Why not spend a few hours at each since they're in the same city?

It takes less than one hour to get from one to another by public transportation. You could even walk it although that would take quite some time.

I was thinking of that actually -- just wasn't sure if that's okay. Do I register for both then?

It would actually take you minutes. It wouldn't be bad at all but I don't know if the schedules for each one will allow you to do so. Good Luck!

You can use hopstop.com and it says (and it's super conservative) that a taxi will take you 11 min., and a bus will take you 6 min. It's not bad whatsoever- an hour is a ridiculous exaggeration.

It should be fine - you can contact the Admissions Office and ask just to be safe, but some of the second visits I've been invited to have even explicitly said that it's completely acceptable to come and leave throughout the day as one pleases.

It's obvious that you've never traveled in Manhattan. A 6 minute bus ride? You have to walk to the bus station then wait for the bus to come. Then you get on the bus and it takes time to travel. There are frequent stops for red lights and picking up other passengers. Then you get off and then walk to another bus stop where you wait for another bus. You get on that bus when it arrives, it picks up passengers and waits for red lights. There will be a certain amount traffic because it's Manhattan, more during rush hour.

lol wat. ok, 10+ year resident of manhattan here.

OP, MSSM is on ~92nd/3rd and Cornell is around 69th/1st. Take a cab..it'll be about $15 and take about 15 minutes AT MOST.

you can also take the 6 to 68th and walk...thats about 30 minutes door to door.

I actually have lived in Manhattan for two years now and take public transportation on a daily basis.

I'm not insulting you personally but you have no idea what you're talking about so please stop giving misinformed advice.

OP, you have two residents of NYC here telling you that it's not that big of a deal to travel to both sites, and you also have websites, including the MTA, that tell you contrary to the above posters recommendation. Good luck to you on your decision-whatever you choose.

I've lived in New York City my whole life and I've spent 7 of those years commuting in Manhattan to and from the Upper East Side. I've spent significant amounts of time at both Mount Sinai and Cornell and have traveled from one to another. A taxi might be 15 minutes but I didn't talk about it because I think that that they charge absurd amounts for the distance they travel. There's no chance in hell that a bus will be 6 minutes. Also, Mount Sinai is actually on 98th-101st and 5th/Madison while Cornell is at 70th and York.

Walking from Mount Sinai to the 6 train is probably about 10 minutes at a normal pace and walking from the 68th street station to Cornell is 10-15 with about a 10-15 minutes train ride depending on if the train comes quickly or not. This is a best case scenario that doesn't include any delays due to train traffic or trains that skip stations.
Source: I've worked at both places and done it multiple times over the course of months so feel free to take your patronizing tone elsewhere.

Well, for the sake of argument, OP take a taxi if you go. 👍

I recommend you attend both second looks to get a better feel for the student body at each school. During my revisit, I met several people at the Cornell revisit that were also at the Mount Sinai revisit. Ultimately, we all attended Cornell as we fit much better with the students at Cornell than Mount Sinai. For me personally, Cornell revisit was the best one out of any of the schools I attended and it pretty much sealed the deal for me to attend the school! Good luck!
